Wonder Wickets

Wonder Wickets

Hello! I am Prilaja and you’re reading my thoughts on Wonder Wickets.

A perfect blend of cute, starry-eyed characters, whimsical fairy-tale worlds, simple controls with a high skill ceiling & music of a galactic spectrum makes this the best $10.00 USD you can spend on Steam.

Let’s go over that first note: cute-starry eyed characters.

Have you ever wanted to play space mini-golf/croquet as a puppy of the stars?

The answer is yes, let’s be honest here.

Just about all of the characters have a infectious enthusiam with how they talk and move.

This game really is very good. The puzzles are challenging, but often have several solutions that can each lead to getting a good score. And I’ve found myself more than happy to go back to past levels that I didn’t score so good on the first time and play them again to bring my score up!

While some levels can feel kinda impossible to score well on, it’s often simply a matter of simply figuring out the finer details. If you aim to get yourself to gold or even platinum on all of the levels, than this game can easily last you for several days, and that’s a low-bar estimate given that I have yet to beat it all myself!

Infinite Minigolf

Only had this half an hour, the game handles very well, beautiful crisp graphics as we’d expect and good physics.

I had an issue with the DLC, where the game would not recognise the DLC, I ended up restarting Steam and it installed an update that fixed it, so bear that in mind if you hit that issue :)

I will update the review as I play more

One thing I will add is that the power stick on Controller seems a bit too tricky to get the exact power required, it jusmpos around, si it could do with refining.

Great game, but the problem is that some of the holes aren’t of a very high quality…

The game is great but some of the holes are very basic, for instance one piece of course, with a start and a hole, in which the hole is almost right next to the start. I understand that this is because the holes are all made by other players using the built-in editor.

How are the holes shared?

You will have noticed that there is no Workshop support for this game, which raises the question “how are holes shared?” The answer to that is simply via the game’s system which works like this:

The principles of this game are very fun and it starts to scratch the itch of playing a modern

Sim Golf with a few tweaks to make it new. However it falls flat as a sale of a complete game. There are not enough pre-made buildings. I have spent hours making versions of my own buildings when all i wanted to do was construct a 5 star hotel to meet an in game achievement or advance to the next level. The building editor is possibly the most disappointing part of this game. It has great potential, but takes way too long to make anything worth while.

The aesthetic is really nice, and the concept is really cool, but it’s just not done well in many ways. It actually makes me a little sad, because I would love for this to be an amazing game, but it’s just got too many flaws, with not enough going for it. EDIT: Not just flaws, there are multiple completely game breaking bugs. I just had a bug in my main game, where I’ve spent many hours, with a total networth of 3.6 million, and it’s now a useless save, because a bug happened where I won’t be able to progress at all.

Cursed to Golf

Mini Golf Buddies

Mini Golf Buddies

MIni Golf Buddies is, unfortunately, a perfect storm of all the elements that I hate in a game. Music and sound effects are either on or off, no volume control. Controls are reasonably straightforward, but on some holes the dividing line between success and disaster is both razor thin and unmarked. Customization is minimal – there is no option to run in a window rather than full screen, and it’s not a game that requires full screen for its blocky graphics.

Most–and worst–of all, it stops you every few holes begging for a 5-star review; after the third one, I clicked on the option for 1-4 stars and rather than being allowed to leave a less-than-five-star rating, I was asked to email them with what I thought was wrong with it rather than being allowed to leave a rating.

This is an early review. At review time, I have about 2 hours of gameplay, and about 25 hours of watching YouTube video.

I have sufficient knowledge to give a good review..so bear with me.

First, I am a life-long golfer, and first played in 1974. I am also a lifelong PC and X-Box golfer, having played just about every golf game ever made, from PGA Tour golf for my Pentium 1, up to all the Links series golf games, all the Tiger Woods, and especially every game that ever sported a golf course designer.

Real player with 42.4 hrs in game

GolfTopia is the spiritual successor to Sid Meier’s SimGolf (2002). That’s high praise from someone who spend probably about a hundred hours developing the perfect golf course in that game. Then again, it’s been a bit of a hobby of mine over the years. I used to publish JNSE courses back in the early 90s and I still sometimes catch myself looking at terrain and figuring how a golf hole would lay on it. So I was pretty excited to see this title and I can say I’ve been enthralled with GolfTopia.

For those who aren’t as old as Methuselah and may have not played SimGolf, here’s a brief rundown of the game play loop. You have a top down view of the land (randomly generated) and you start designing golf holes. Your guests will be happy, or won’t, depending on how interesting, difficult and fun the hole is to play. Make it too easy and the golfers won’t like it. Make it too difficult and they’ll storm off the course after punching someone. Make it too much like another hole and they’ll get bored. The more interesting the holes, the more money you make. That allows you to upgrade your facilities and build more golf holes with higher fees.

DOG GONE GOLFING

DOG GONE GOLFING

Dog Gone Golfing is an adorable title where you pick a dog and go golfing…with hockey pucks because the dogs chewed all the golf balls up. The game itself is fairly simple, with the objective being to get the puck in the hole in as few moves as possible. This game is easy to pick up and play, and if you aren’t careful, you might get sucked in for hours. I was really impressed with the amount of content that was in this game despite it being only $2.29. Overall, it’s a great and charming game for your library. :)

A simple Worms-style gameplay, at a rock-bottom price. Could have used more polish. For example, the functions of the two action-types are not explained. There are no golf clubs to select, nor directions to aim. The mechanics of obsticles, wind speeds, and ability-skills are not explained. The system of meta-game unlocks are not explained. Also, I am very annoyed that the xbox-style gamepad controller doesn’t work.

If you have the patience to look past the short-comings, then I think there is a golf-campaign to be explored. You will be limited to only one club, only hitting the ball straight ahead, and a having to learn as you go. Maybe you can even get your controller working with it. Dog Gone Golfing uses the Game Maker game engine. I tried playing this on an Ubuntu 18.10 system.

The one thing it needs to make it perfect is a replay shortcut button because it’s tedious to go to the top left corner every time. Also the yellow replay button is unintuitively placed in between the exit and “next” button. I think those should have been placed vertically instead of horizontally but nvm.

Arcane golf is, well a golf game, kind of. You are expected to put the ball in a hole, but going through 2d levels it’s closer to a platformer with golf controls than to other minigolf type games.

The visuals of the game are very pleasing, and the game actually has some story behind it, with a character talking you through as you progress with the levels, nothing special but adds some to the world.

The gameplay for the most part is also fun, but there are a few exceptions, most levels are designed with a specific way of beating them in mind, but during some I just couldn’t figure out what that way could be, since they were really open, with no real indicators what the devs had in mind, some lightly tinted wall bricks as to indicate a first hit, or a place to aim at would be a nice touch, as it was admittedly a bit frustrating to just be stuck and try to find a valiable strategy, while messing with angles, places to shoot from or speeds of the hit. It was rare (only a few levels like that) but as there are no guides for the game it was bothersome.
