Mulligans Golf Game

Mulligans Golf Game

Mulligans Golf Game is a Local Multiplayer (split screen), wacky, arcade golfing game. Gameplay is a combination of open world freedom and old school console split screen arcade style play surrounding a simplified yet challenging golfing experience. It is not a Sim but is designed to provide the scenarios and emotions that come when playing real golf. Players choose from the available pool of legendary characters and pre-built maps, playing solo, attempting to set new personal bests, going for course records (local and global leaderboards), or grabbing some friends and challenging each other to see who is the best!

What is there to do?

Play local matches competing against yourself. Personal Records (per character) and Local Leaderboards (per map) are maintained. Global Steam leaderboards are also implemented so you can compete against others for the top spot!

Local Multiplayer has up to 4 players with Steam’s Remote Play enabled. So if you don’t have someone local to play against, invite a friend over the airwaves! Play matches against each other and make in game wagers on who is going to do better (long drives, closes to the pin, and best score). Also, checkout the driving range for a few different game modes and see who can get the better score. Or just run around throwing golf balls at one another.

Taking a Swing

As a player, you are given all the tools you need, but must make the decision on what kind of shot (normal, punch, flop, chip), how to shape it (fade, straight, draw), and how hard to hit it. The game will not tell you any more than recommending a club to use. So lineup and take a few practice swings to determine your plan of attack. Practice swings will update the estimated shot trajectory, allowing you to determine if your current approach is going to work. Then it is up to you to replicate your practice swing once addressing the ball. And if you mess it up, hopefully you have one of your Mulligans available to redo it.

Current features include:

  • Preset Legendary Characters

  • Pre-built maps

  • Stroke and Skin match play

  • Wagers

  • Driving Range and Practice Greens for improvement (map specific)

  • Local Leaderboards, Character PBs (per course), Global Steam Leaderboards.

  • In game Achievements

Lots of fun. Definitely worth the price. Would love to see more variety and detail in the maps in the future. Walking to the next hole gets tiresome because of the mini map. i wish there was a better way to indicate where the next hole is or where your current hole is. Maybe a larger top-down view you could toggle in and out of?

Honestly, here’s my guide to Sokpop, if you see something neat or interesting.. you’ll be glad you gave it a shot. The games are fun, & allow you to unwind very comfortably. They don’t expect you to go out of your way, you won’t feel like you’ve wasted time, & again for the price of half a meal, it’s worth it.

Oh & in case you weren’t looking hard enough a lot of these games offer multiplayer, which really blows my mind!!

“Sokpop Collective” makes valuable games!

P.s.

Sokpop, you’ve successfully made the first Disc Golf game that isn’t lame. Most in this genre focus heavily on the disc, having this world to play in is a blast. If a part 2 were to ever come out, I’ll buy that one too!! :)

DOG GONE GOLFING

DOG GONE GOLFING

Dog Gone Golfing is an adorable title where you pick a dog and go golfing…with hockey pucks because the dogs chewed all the golf balls up. The game itself is fairly simple, with the objective being to get the puck in the hole in as few moves as possible. This game is easy to pick up and play, and if you aren’t careful, you might get sucked in for hours. I was really impressed with the amount of content that was in this game despite it being only $2.29. Overall, it’s a great and charming game for your library. :)

A simple Worms-style gameplay, at a rock-bottom price. Could have used more polish. For example, the functions of the two action-types are not explained. There are no golf clubs to select, nor directions to aim. The mechanics of obsticles, wind speeds, and ability-skills are not explained. The system of meta-game unlocks are not explained. Also, I am very annoyed that the xbox-style gamepad controller doesn’t work.

If you have the patience to look past the short-comings, then I think there is a golf-campaign to be explored. You will be limited to only one club, only hitting the ball straight ahead, and a having to learn as you go. Maybe you can even get your controller working with it. Dog Gone Golfing uses the Game Maker game engine. I tried playing this on an Ubuntu 18.10 system.

Spent about an hour on this before beating it. For some of the levels it is impossible to get 3 stars which pains my completionist mindset. The controls are pretty finnicky and sensitive to begin, but you get used to them after about 10 min of playing. It is only a dollar if you don’t get it from giveaway.su, but even then i wouldn’t recommend buying it.

Dream Golf VR

Dream Golf VR

I had bought this game a couple years ago when I had first got a VR and just decided to download anything that was free that looked fun. Honestly I don’t understand why I chose a golf game considering how god awful I am at golf most of the time I can’t even hit the ball. Although playing a golf game in VR is quite fun to do especially during quarantine and you can’t actually play golf in a real place. Note that this game is mini-golf style golf not the standard golf but, hey I love mini-golf and if anything it’s easier and a lot more fun. Also note that this game is free but only gives you access to two courses. The additional three are DLCs however, there are difficulties and various gamemodes.

I really liked playing the 18 hole mini-golf course here. It was a lot of fun despite some issues. I played this on the Oculus Rift with Touch Controllers, I started out with my head barely above the ground. So when I see that error, I always do the Windows 7 compatability trick and started the game straight from Steam VR and it worked! You press Y or B to change the length of your club (up or down). You teleport by clicking on your thumbstick. Unfortunately, you cannot reset view within the game so you’ll need a roomscale setup. Game played fine for the most part (visuals/sounds/gameplay).

Golf On Mars

Golf On Mars

If you’re familiar with Desert Golfing - this is that, but better. Cheap, simple, relaxing fun, at least until you get stuck in a hole with no escape. Luckily, unlike Desert Golfing, you’re able to skip a hole after 25 strokes. You also have more smooth courses, the able to put backspin on the ball, and to easily reset the game. One thing I hope to see changed, perhaps, are the achievements for the game - currently only four, each for completing a certain amount of holes: one hundred, one thousand, ten thousand, and one billion. It could definitely use some “get 1 hole in one” “get 5 holes in one” etc achievements, but my main gripe is that one billion, while funny, is simply not possible during the course of normal play. Anyway, pretty minor stuff. Would heartily recommend this for a relaxing time putting a ball over the dunes of Mars.

It’s the sequel to the best golfing game of all time, with added mechanics such as spin/the camera moving, and options to make the game more playable. And it’s only $3 for basically infinite enjoyment. Buy this game now.

November edit: still fantastic

Infinite Minigolf

Infinite Minigolf

Only had this half an hour, the game handles very well, beautiful crisp graphics as we’d expect and good physics.

I had an issue with the DLC, where the game would not recognise the DLC, I ended up restarting Steam and it installed an update that fixed it, so bear that in mind if you hit that issue :)

I will update the review as I play more

One thing I will add is that the power stick on Controller seems a bit too tricky to get the exact power required, it jusmpos around, si it could do with refining.

Great game, but the problem is that some of the holes aren’t of a very high quality…

The game is great but some of the holes are very basic, for instance one piece of course, with a start and a hole, in which the hole is almost right next to the start. I understand that this is because the holes are all made by other players using the built-in editor.

How are the holes shared?

You will have noticed that there is no Workshop support for this game, which raises the question “how are holes shared?” The answer to that is simply via the game’s system which works like this:
