Serious review alert, no memes here.

This game is a hilarious action platformer and is genuinely really great, it’s definitely one of the funniest games I’ve ever played but also has challenging and fun gameplay, though it’s a bit unpolished and frustrating at times.

There’s a lot of small bugs I encountered, but they were mostly just funny to see and didn’t really get in the way (a boss once froze in place and just let me kill them, moving platforms act strange when you go at them from the wrong side, and other even smaller things). There’s also a lot of framerate issues stemming from the lack of optimization, but it’s mostly just during cutscenes and doesn’t inhibit gameplay too much.

School of the Dead: Anastasia

School of the Dead: Anastasia

I don’t enjoy many shooter-type games. This one, however, caught my attention because of its bright, neon-ish appearance (yes, I’m the type of person who totally jumps for graphics). And probably because both the videos and screenshots looked kinda weird. I tend to like weird games.

School of the Dead is the story about a cute neon-pinky girl named - you would never guess… - Anastasia. She sits in class when suddenly a strange accident happens. In a short period of time the school is filled with hideous monsters. Anastasia must find her little brother and needs to get out before it’s too late.

Not bad, i played it and felt in love. I hope dev will add some new levels with the updates because it’s so fascinating despite the little bugs so i swear you it’s the best game you have ever played

TLDR: Semi decent double jump platformer. Held back by odd minigame choices, pacing and difficulty issues and low audiovisual ambitions.

This is basically NES mario. But you can double jump. You can swing a sword at close range rather than jumping on things to kill them. You can wallgrab and jump from wall. You can swap your ability attack.

Abilities are kinda neat, throwing bombs or shooting lasers, you can charge it for more power. Coins are actually used to unlock static bonuses, not a bad idea.

**TL;DR: it’s no masterpiece and has some very noticeable problems, but it is overall a perfectly serviceable game that will provide a couple of hours of lighthearted fun, and it’s cheap enough even at full price (and often receives huge sales anyway) that I’m pretty sure fans of the genre would find value in the short experience.

6.8/10 - Still better than Mighty No. 9**

I really am not one who bothers writing reviews, but I’m going to go out of my way because I feel people have been a bit too harsh on this little title. Let me be clear now, it’s nowhere near perfect, and has the misfortune of belonging to a genre that is already oversaturated and filled to the brim with imitators, which means it has to compete with a huge amount of similar games, including a lot of well-made indie ones. But if you don’t go in expecting the level of quality you’d want from Megaman or Cave Story, you might be pleasantly surprised.

Pixel Game Maker MV

Pixel Game Maker MV

It’s been a long time coming, but I’m now ready to weigh in my thoughts on Pixel Game Maker MV. I’ve been using this software since early access back in 2018.

TL;DR:

Pixel Game Maker MV is a great game development engine for those that are not programmers, and want to be able to create either side scrolling or top down action games. It’s got enough for a single person development operation to chew on here to create the game you want to create in the way you want it created; bearing in mind that you operate within the program’s limits. If programming/scripting is outside your reach (or if it’s something you can do), this is a great engine that has the potential to be amazing as long as the developers continue with updates & performance improvements. There are assets and DLC that is available at the time of writing for you to get a jump on a concept quickly, but there are no asset standards (outside of keeping things divisible by 2) to conform with.

I’ll begin this review with I’m 36, not 16. I have no illusions about making a game and distributing it for gain. This is a hobby for me and that is the perspective I write this review from. I have a day job. I moonlight as a hobby pixel artist, and that drives me to dev software to have fun with, and bring it to life.

I began with RPG Maker MV as my first dip into game dev software. I do not have a desire to learn to code so that software was more interesting to me compared to more advanced engines. After years in RMMV I felt the want for more control from the ground up, and not be boxed in by hard limitations from the software, and the need for plugins to break through those hard limitations. Pixel Game Maker MV grants me that feeling. I did not feel like the learning curve to get going on a project was difficult, even without a large database of video tutorial content on YouTube at the time.

I really enjoyed this game. The game’s simple graphics and controls let me actually play like how I would play if I was playing volleyball in real life. Unlike many other “3D” volleyball games I played, I can plan how I will approach the rally and how I will win the point.

The special effects when I spike the ball right and win a point was huge satisfaction factor for me, it was simply astonishing.

The in-game achievements was there to help me with character progression, gacha, as well as costumizaion.

Super Jigsaw Puzzle: Anime Reloaded

Super Jigsaw Puzzle: Anime Reloaded

No more need to search the bag of your vacuum-cleaner for the missing parts of your puzzle.

No more need to clean the living room table because it’s time for some coffee.

No more need to chase your parrot because it also wants to play.

Nice puzzle game. Better in some ways than the Pixel Puzzles series. (Specifically, the fact that the puzzle pieces snap together outside the picture frame.) Decent for the price (especially if on discount).

Valdis Story: Abyssal City

Valdis Story: Abyssal City

Valdis Story: Abyssal City is one of the best games i’ve played so far, i’ve been so hooked on to it that i have yet to become bored of doing the game over and over, it feels like each playthrough is a challenge and the hardest difficulty which is unlocked after your first playthrough really puts your skills to the test.

The storyline is quite a fun turn of events as neither hell or heaven is the good guy here!

You start off on a ship with your crew then some giant monster comes and crashes your ship and you all sink and end up in Abyssal City which is deep under the sea, it turns out that you have been caught up in the middle of a war between angels and demons and your only way out is to battle your way through hordes of angels and demons as you search for your missing crew!
