Developers

The developers are very active within the community and are an easy bunch to contact if need be. There is no downside I can speak of when talking about the developers in the time I’ve participated in the community thus far - they are an amazing team and I’m glad they are the ones to be making this great game. Anyone active in the Distance community has probably talked to them at some point, whether it be about a bug report, feature suggestion, or just discussing some of the many community workshop tracks. Occasionally they will host a livestream event to show off some of the community-created tracks on their Twitch and we have some great fun asking questions while they host a multiplayer server. All of their contact info is in the bottom-right corner of the Distance homepage .

Alpha Backer here

First and foremost: For a title that just now hits Early Access the game is working surprisingly well. The implemented gamemodes work, offline and online Multiplayer works, leaderboards and steam workshop work too :3

  • postive
  • negative

o neither, but wanted to mention

Gameplay / Controls

  • Car controls nicely

  • Lots of obstacles to avoid. Placement of obstacles can make for great flow in levels, ranging from hectic dodging to smooth precision driving.

FLS

FLS

There’s the start of a good idea in here, but it’s just the start and it’s abandoned before it ever really gets anywhere.

–-

First of all, WTF does FLS even mean? A game won’t be memorable or popular if the name can’t even be pronounced and has no meaning. Even as an abbreviation, the audience needs to know what that abbreviation means or it’s just random letters and forgettable. Ultimately that’s what this game ends up being, forgettable.

It’s supposed to be a racing sandbox where you make your own tracks. And that’s pretty much all you are given, a tool kit for making time trial races through rings in space that you use as race-tracks.

Super Pilot

Super Pilot

This game is one of the “F-Zero-Inspired games” that GETS to say that it is F-Zero inspired. Because it is. The controls and layout, and overall feel are vastly similar to F-Zero GX. Racers don’t get to boost until the second lap, and of course, movement is a fair bit sensitive. The three most important things to getting the F-Zero feel.

However, it does manage to have it’s own identity, as can be seen in how boosting is done. Unlike F-Zero, boosting doesn’t deplete energy, but there’s more a “limit” as to how it can be used. Use it too much too soon, and your machine will easily wreck if you sustain a hit or two. In the event you do get wrecked, you can respawn. This is something that would likely welcome people who were intimidated by F-Zero basically punishing a fail for having players be wrecked for the entire race (more racers however should try to be as punishing in my opinion).

PITCH

Super Pilot is an arcade racer following the footsteps of F-Zero. The game follows F-Zero’s ideas pretty closely and is a perfected execution of a modern take on the mechanics. I struggle to find anything to dislike about Super Pilot and can’t wait for it to continue getting updates and eventually release out of Early Access.

MECHANICS

In this game, you won’t be using anything but pure skill and understanding of mechanics to win a race. There are no powerups and no random advantages. If you are better than the people you play with, or the artificial intelligence, you will simply be better. There’re no blue shells or lightning strikes to cheat you out of a victory. Now, this can be seen as bad because it does mean Super Pilot’s racing is very simple. At the same time, taking away the random factors of a lot of other arcade racers makes this one significantly fairer. You will win because you are better, or you will lose because you’re worse.

Copy Kitty

Copy Kitty

Excellent game. The game features two modes to play the game, story and endless. In story mode you play through premade stages, each with unique terrain, where you have to destroy all the target enemies or a boss. Since there are different enemies each stage you always have different powers to copy and combine, which makes the stages even more varied and fun. At first it is not very difficult, but it can be challenging before you get used to the controls, however, after you beat normal mode you can play hard mode, which continues the story, has new enemies and new bosses, the terrain is based on the normal mode equivalent stage, but is often altered in some way. While the game can be difficult at times, these times are often the times when you can become the most powerful. Also, if you lose a boss battle multiple times you usually get tips on how to beat it from Savant, this also applies to some stages that the dev suspects the player might have trouble with.

Magic, robots, lasers, and aliens. Copy Kitty’s one of those games that, taken at face value, seems like chaos. But once you get into it, it still remains chaos; only you’re the one in control of it. The action is intense, and there’s plenty of variety to last for a long time. It’s been described to be somewhat similar to Mega Man, and while I haven’t played those games, I can see where they’re coming from. And even once you’re done burning through all the content Copy Kitty can throw at you, it still provides incentive to get better and perfect what you’ve already done once. There is ALWAYS room for you to improve in this game.

Dance Collider

Dance Collider

Game provided via the Steam Curator program.

Dance Collider is a VR rhythm game.

There are a couple of games of this genre already so how does Dance Collider stand among them? I believe it’s one of the best. I’m having a lot of fun while playing it, unlike other rhythm games moves here actually make sense which makes it even more enjoyable. While in Beat Saber you are forced to make random erratic movements trying to hit the boxes(let’s face it people who make custom songs there have no idea what they are doing), here in Dance Collider your movements are much like dancing. You are punching nodes by the rhythm of a song/tune. The visuals are wonderful, not too much on the eye and not too little. Despite me not being fan of dubstep and modern electronic music I do think the sound effects and the music included are excellent to get your groove on. What makes this even better is that you choose characters which act as your opponent. Each of them has unique style and has different tunes. Movement is fluid with no tracking issues.

TL;DR: For an already small selection of titles Dance Collider is a must have title for any rhythm game enthusiasts that want to get into a cyberpunk themed dance battle.

The review:

If you want to find out what “you’re yoghurt” is continue reading.

The Street Fighter of dance battles set in a variety of distinctive arenas that give off a strong cyberpunk vibe. Each character has a unique musical style and special move to keep you moving. The idea of a dancing off vs a character that taunts you occassionally gives you a better sense of purpose rather than just dancing alone in a game racking up points.

Can someone please post a walkthrough for level 82 I can’t figure out how to beat it, also this game is sick, download it

A deceptively simple and satisfying little gem.

Simple enough on the surface - avoiding obstacles and hazards, you have to guide your little ship to it’s goal. But each new level, you have to rethink your assumptions as the rules change - could be gravity is jacked up, could be a high drag co-efficient, could be the ship is suddenly a fragile little egg.

It’s part puzzle game, part physics based skill-tester. Has a small set of mechanics but combines them in very satisfying ways.

Great fun.

It COULD be a fun puzzle game but the movements are confusing since you might move in the wrong direction because you thought W took you in a different direction to where it actually moves you. it should just be you click the adjacent square you move to

I see no downsides. Here is a list - a small one - why this game is good.

  • free to play

  • nice logic puzzles

  • build your own puzzles

  • start with easy riddles end with brain breaking hard ones

  • regular updates

It’s a yes from me. If you want to chill, beat some time and solve riddles. This could be a game for you. :)
