NecroWorm

NecroWorm

Nice ambience with bugs and horrible controls

What this game is: This is a timed puzzle game with a cartoonish side. You litterally are a worm that has to eat his way through a setup in order to solve it by eating every available object (be it a brain, a skull, etc.) in a certain amount of time. You can make your way through one space only once, so you have to make sure not to put yourself in position of crossing your path.

How does it work? It presents 120 setups, on three pages, that you have to solve. Depending on the time you took in solving the puzzle (by eating everything there is to eat), you get from one to three skulls. From there, you are allowed to continue solving other puzzles, unless you want to get a better score (and thus more skulls).

I came into Omnom Necropolis expecting a classic snake game, but found that this is more of a hybrid of the old snake game and a puzzler. Basically the goal of each level is to each each of the yucky dead things as quickly as possible without boxing yourself in. As you move you grow with every step (slither?) so you cannot enter the same space twice making it a bit of a challenge. I found that it’s easier if I don’t think too much about it and kind of get a broad idea of how to clear the board then tweak it out from there. This works pretty well except on some of the harder levels where things get a bit insane. There is a hint feature that shows you a completion path, but use it sparingly as it only gives you a quick flash and they are limited. Graphics and sound suit the mood and it looks nice enough: I tested it on my low-end machine and it ran smoothly so that’s nice. I’m slightly bummed that it does not support gamepads – because of this I cannot stream it to my shield or play it on the GPD Win easily. All in all if you like puzzly type games you will likely enjoy Omnom’s different approach to the genre. Plus it’s only 3 bucks. Good game to add to the Halloween playlist.

Heroes of Yore

Looking for a casual way to prove dominance amongst fabled legends? I was. Ever want to make a team of mythical villains destroy the prudish icons of old? I did. Have you ever wanted Paul Bunyan to feed Grendel flapjacks?… well, me either on this one, but it is as awesome as it sounds. This game was just what I wanted! It is a casual, easy to learn, but challenging to master. I have not fully beat this game yet, but am working on it! I will slay them all!

Since this is Early Access, I am really excited to see what (or who) else the developers come up with!

Heroes of Yore is a turn-based strategy/RPG in which you put together a squad of public domain characters and fight to win in single or multiplayer mode.

The basics are straightforward, and it’s evident that the game aims to be user-friendly. You simply select four heroes from an ever-growing pool and engage in combat. On the left, your party, and on the right, the opponent. The battles are turn-based, which means that each side performs actions for all four heroes. Attacking is simple, just select the attack and choose a target. Because each hero only gets to perform one action, the order doesn’t matter. So far, everything appears to be easy.

The Tainted

The Tainted

You play as Jezebel, a mysterious girl who awakens in the woods, with little memory of her past. Unlike most of the humans of this world, she can use magic and communicate with intelligent creatures. In trying to live up to her motto of always doing what’s necessary, she often finds herself in uncomfortable situations.

Along the way to exploring the land of Xanthia, you’ll gain allies to help you face the many challenges that await. Do you have what it takes to stop the Taint?

Features:

Old school, 2D style RPG

Turn-based combat

Partial spell customization

Mature/immature humor

Mini-games

The Tainted was created using the RPG Maker MV engine and makes use of a lot of content created by the RPG Maker community. It attempts to tell a unique and funny story, as well as show off some of the talent found in this often overlooked community. Much of the humor is of a mature nature and is not intended for younger viewers. So, if you enjoy classic RPGs with turn-based combat and are also an adult that still thinks farts are funny….you might also enjoy The Tainted.

Election Year Knockout

Election Year Knockout

A really fun Punch-Out style game, featuring funny parodies of US politicians (Crenshaw being one of my favourites and you’ll see why). Each opponent has their own gimmick that’s fun to figure out, and are all satisfying to beat up. There’s no deep political commentary or anything, just parodies mocking US politicians, much like how the Punch-Out games mocked stereotypes of different nationalities and cultures. The EX boxers are all fun, souped-up rematches against the fighters, serving as a really nice bonus newgame+ for after you’ve done everything else. Much like the Title Defence fights in Punch-Out Wii, these are much harder than the original fights and offer a huge variety of newer, more devastating attacks for each rematch that the player will have to learn and adapt to. The challenges in each fight help boost the game’s replayability, there’s 10 for every fighter in the game (5 for normal and 5 for EX) and they can be tough to figure out, but extremely satisfying once you’ve got them all. The roster is quite limited, however the devs have considered adding more boxers if the game gets enough traction (personally I’m hoping for Bojo to get in). I’d definitely recommend if you’re a fan of Punch-Out or if you just like taking the piss out of US politics.

Not one hundred percent flushed out and people who want to complete everything will be frustrated at some mission because you have no clue why something did not count. But for the most part and the main gameplay, this is just gorgeus. plays nice and funny. long and hard at the later fights until you know what you are doing

Captain Disaster in: The Dark Side of the Moon

Captain Disaster in: The Dark Side of the Moon

I loved this little game. Graphics are a bit of an eyesore but they fit the mood well, because it’s a meta, fourth wall breaking parody type of game. It’s good fun and made me laugh. Puzzles make some sense and the dev was even kind enough to help me when I got stuck - I thought I had tried something I didn’t. This game is better enjoyed by people familiar with Sierra and Lucasarts games and that can get all the pop references. It exploits the point and click tropes and the bad habits of adventure players brilliantly.

Real player with 5.8 hrs in game

This game is a short little diversion that will be enjoyable to fans of the Point and Click genre. A fully voiced space comedy, you are trapped on a moon with the goal of getting off. In true adventure game fashion, a larger plot emerges.

The real joy of the game is the comedy writing. It is quite reference heavy, but enjoyable nonetheless. A full third of the references are to adventure games, classic adventure games, and AGS, the software used to build the game. Another full third of the references are sci-fi references. The final third of references are to Pink Floyd albums. If you don’t like these things, this game may not be for you.

Internet Court

Internet Court

I have to admit I found Internet Court really funny. It does have a lot of silly moments that make you go what but I loved it from beginning to end. You can beat this within 2 hours but it is really fun to get through. I love the acting being silly but worth it to make a good comedy. The Judge always makes me laugh at every turn. I love the silly ending that connects all 4 cases and my favourite case was the first one. I may not be a fan of the music in the game but love the credits song at the end.

Great writing, including fun dialogue when you make bad decisions (intentionally or otherwise). Clear video and audio with acting by Gamecola staff emeritus.

The judge once said, “I’m going to let you try again, but first I’m going to give you a strike!” giving me my third strike and ejecting me from the courtroom. I might have gotten carried away exploring dialogue options.

Video Game Fables

Video Game Fables

“Video Game Fables” is a fun, lighthearted RPG adventure set in a once-traditional RPG world that hasn’t had a player in decades.

The world’s script gets completely ruined by someone calling herself “The Forsaken Princess.” It’s up to Aru (the world’s princess), Nate (an NPC aspiring to be a hero), and Tator (the villain’s son) to get things back to normal…or maybe change everything forever.

  • Lighthearted humor throughout the dialog, characters, and world.

  • Fun narrative and story that doesn’t rely on parody and has its own identity.

  • Challenging, fast-paced, turn-based battles that require strategy and quick thinking.

  • Colorful and vibrant stylized graphics.

  • Unique XP and leveling system which lets you allocate resources to setup your party strategically.

  • Skill crafting, light class system that changes play styles slightly depending on equipped weapon, weapon upgrades, mining, fishing, simple gardening, and many more fun features.
