MADNESS: Project Nexus

MADNESS: Project Nexus

Madness Project Nexus. First of all the obvious. 600+ hours as of writing this you already know I’m going to recommend this game. Here’s why:

Why Reccomend This?

I am one of the original kickstarter backers. I’ve been around since the beginning. So I’ve seen and played this game throughout it’s entire development lifecycle. Throughout it all I’ve seen the game change a lot, from it’s graphical upgrades, to refinement of the mechanics and gameplay design, I’ve played this game through it’s best and worst. And the one thing I can absolutely say is that this is a great game that I’ve had a lot of fun with, and am confident it only gets better from here.

sandford is a massive handsome hunk and i’d smooch on him all day

Jokes aside, I’ll go through the game and what I experienced. I played through Arena mode 2 times and am currently playing as ‘The Massive’, and I’ve beat the base game all on normal, and am yet to play it on tough.

This is my real first review, so i’ll break it into segments. In order, Story, Arena, and Playground. This is the order you SHOULD play the game, or at least in parts.

Story : In the story, you play through a long and grueling journey as Hank and his buds, and you make new friends along the way on your conquest to take down Project Nexus. The story, i binged through and completed in 3 days, but if you take your time, you’ll complete it in a balanced span of time. There are unique, fun to fight factions, many bosses fit for each faction and event, neatly designed levels and segments the game is played through, and many show-casings of scripting, unique weapons, and story building. It’s strong and fun, and satisfying to replay on higher difficulties. The added outfit system to allow you to replay levels with different setups is great fun. Some bits may be found strange or frustrating to fight through, but as me, a medium skill player, I always eventually prevailed. It’s definitely the main focus of the game. I rate it 8.5/10, it satisfied my Madness Combat itch!

Just noticed I never actually reviewed this fantastic game

To keep it basic: If you’re looking for a very detailed and lovingly crafted VR deep-dive into guns, their mechanics and how they work on particularly meaty (and sausage shaped) targets, then this game is for you. It might sound cheesy, but H3VR geniuenly taught me a lot of things about firearms, in an environment where you’re thankfully unable to actually hurt anyone (human that is, Hot-Dogs still get slaughtered)

So yeah, show Anton some love and get this game. Be it on the target-range, Take & Hold, Meat-Fortress or whatever wacky sidemode he introduces next, you’ll have a good time with it

Out of the minsicule amount of VR gun games I have played (which it’s like 2 idk), this is the best one I have played and consistently coming back to play it. The developer has been updating the game very often since its launch, and there are only more content from now on. Big props to the developer being so committed with this game and providing us with content for YEARS.

A lot of attention have been made so that each firearm (that are added) which the ones have unique quirks are also implemented in-game. The level of detail to each firearm is uncanny, and I find this game’s implementation of firearm mechanics is the most consistent and satisfying one out there.

I play on the Oculus Rift and it works perfect with only 180 degrees of freedom.

This is my all time favorite VR game of the about 130+ titles I’ve played so far. It was much better than expected on the video.

The gameplay is amazingly perfect! Bullet hell is a very good discription of this game. There’s always shots and enemies somewhere and you have time to react to everything going on. I truly feel that it’s my own fault for doing something stupid and I get better all the time. All the shots coming at you makes it super immersive. The formations of the shots makes it very interesting how to tacle them. Finding a spot to stand where everything flies around you feels awesome.

BOTU is a wave shooter set inside a retro themed arcade game - it’s conscious about you playing a VR game.

You have a gun and a shield. As you progress through the “campaign” you unlock more shield types and components for the weapon customization. As you make kills, your weapons special ability charges - this brief effect (also customizable) can be anything from a powerful ray to invulnerability.

There are 4 levels in the campaign, each ending with a boss fight. Once a level is unlocked, you can also play it in endless mode. On top of that there’s a challenge mode which runs for a few days, with a predetermined weapon and shield. There are global leaderboards for all levels/modes.

Stack Gun Heroes

Stack Gun Heroes

Stack Gun Heroes combines fast paced combat with addicting base building. Invent your own gun and take it on challenging missions to earn valuable resources. You process the loot back home in a factory of your own design.

Gun Building

The Stack Gun can be customized however you want. Will you make a gun that shoots sentry drones that chase and shoot enemies? A gun that abducts people into the upper stratosphere? Or maybe a gun that shoots yourself at the enemy, killing them with the impact damage.

These aren’t pre-made classes. Players invent their own strategies. Chances are you will come up with a playstyle the developer has never thought of.

Factories

Your base is a giant factory that you build with the Stack Gun. You will use it to process loot into items that make you more powerful. There are tons of base machines to build, you can unlock tech infinitely, and the factory has no maximum size.

Features

  • Make any gun. Want a gun that cuts off limbs? A gun that shoots guns at people? A gun that makes you fly? Why not all 3 in one? Combine any gun parts for whatever effects you want.

  • Get so much loot you need to design a factory to process it all. No boring menus, you interact with your machines by doing sick wall-jumps and wall-slides on them. Efficient production is radical!

  • Try out BILLIONS of procedural superpowers. Can you find a use for that power that teleports all nearby bullets wherever you point?

  • You can bring as many friends as you want into online co-op to beat very challenging maps, assuming you aren’t an incredible badass who has no friends.

  • Infinite endgame lets you advance in power forever. Start with “normal” FPS guns and before long you’ll be accidentally killing yourself with nukes 10x the size of the map and running into walls at supersponic speeds.

  • Test your most irritating guns on your friends in deathmatch. They can’t be mad. It’s for science!

  • Run through enemies, wall-slide down skyscrapers, dismember robots, collect superpowers, launch people into space. Every time there was a cool idea, it went in the game.

After 9 years and over 16,000 hours working on this project it’s almost ready. Stack Gun Heroes is my dream game. Hopefully it’s yours too!

Really nice simple idle with good mechanics.

The devs are also really nice and every problem I had they fixed!

The prestige system is painless and you can see the benefits quickly.

The clothes are silly and the skins on the weapons look nice (wish there were more!)

The pets are also pure RNG and are a nice little sink to put extra plats into hoping for the best.

I was playing before they added most of these elements and each one has blended in well.

I liked the first version and have had it open since!

Real player with 1449.7 hrs in game

TLDR - Worth the money for the idle mode, and the idle mode is very good! Other sections of the game are fun for a bit but unpolished. Keep in mind this review was made during Patch 11 so things will undoubtedly change.

Idle mode is great, and is one of the best idlers I’ve ever played no doubt. There’s enough content and fun references to keep you entertained for as long or as little as you want. The animations are fun and clever; the weapons, elements, critical system, and hats are very interesting too. If I had to make one critique here I’d say the pacing is a bit off; it starts out sluggish for the first 15ish waves (can be skipped after getting an in-game upgrade) and then by the time you’ve got your fifth or sixth gold hat you literally can’t click fast enough to spend the silver you’ve accrued. After your 50th prestige it is a racing game for how fast you can click, and you won’t spend your money before it’s time to prestige again.

The Award for the longest dialogs goes to…

The first impressions of the game were really good, nice character modeling and a kind of open world to walk and actually being able to walk freely and without any movement problems (because lot of games like this one throw the gameplay with absurd character movement).

The game actually presents like an apocalyptic alike game since you are looking for your parents in an dark and abandoned house with some strange elements like this one, and you can see how dark is the house when is like 2 p.m outside, but it turns in a more friendly space as much as you explore the environment (honestly I thought this was going to be a dark and scary game from the start)

An enjoyable supernatural adventure game, still in development, which is currently held back by it’s mediocre combat system.
