Affected Zone Tactics

This is one of my favourite free from top view games in which , all the players are moving in turns and there are 2 teams in total and all are real players !! Your objective is to capture checkpoints , or kill the entire enemy team! Before the one of the teams has reached the max points needed for win! By capturing the most checkpoints before your enemy team! So there 4 classes in total Assault ( standart human soldier) , Heavy Infantry (Real combat robots who can carry some heavy weapons , and they have the most armor of all also) Commando ( Thees are the human specialists class , who can shoot from the most distance if you choose sniper) Fire Support ( humans who can use same weapons as heavy assault the most heaviest weapons) With all thees weapons you also , get all kinds of adventages and disadventages! With Assault can use submachine guns(best against commandos),machineguns(burst down your enemies),and granade launcher (who can launch granades at , distances and deal some splash damage) Heavy Infantry can use Machine Gunner (Same) ,Grenade Launcher (Same),and the last weapon they can use are napalm

ALL COMENTS AND RATINGS PRIOR TO 2016 SHOULD BE IGNORED

There are reviews prior to 2016, which are mostly negative and describe stuff, that I didnt notice in this release. Here is a review of a game, that came to steam one week ago.

  • it is a turn based strategy online game with researching stuff for your soldiers

  • the game is completely in english

  • it is not easy ( since rank 3 you will suffer even against npcs)

-YES, you play against npcs very often, because atm there is not enough population, even though the game deserves it ( the npsc have names of offline players. Sometimes you spot an online player, whom you recoginize by a yellow star next to his/her name

Space Wars: Interstellar Empires

Played this game 70 out of the 80 so hours I have. Not a bad game it’s a bit like eve but without all the years needed and flying mostly around empty space, just battles with that immersive RP feel and global map objectives. Huge emphasis on Team-work and high value ship kills are a very satisfying experience. I’m a pretty big fan of High-risk high reward games, the strategy is a bonus. It’s pretty much the owners passion project he is open to engaging with the community and takes community feedback very seriously. I don’t think he is really looking for any kind of huge profit there is no p2w elements at all.

This game has potential, but likely will never be realized. There’s no more than 15-20 players online at any one time which means even fewer for your faction.

The combat is horrifically slow. Each player gets a 1:30 to make a full turn, which leads to fights with humans taking literally hours.

The game is terribly balanced as well. There’s simply no rock, paper, scissors type counter to some of the ships at certain levels. Even without officer points, It doesn’t matter how well you play your ship even when equal tier and no officer points. There’s no tier balance.

It is with a heavy heart that I write this review, because at 217 hours of game-play at the time of writing, I have invested a lot of my time into this game. I’ve played since the first publicly available build, so feel I have enough experience to critique this and its development as time has gone on. And for anyone wondering I capped out at Lieutenant IV, hardly a rank to sniff at.

I enjoy this game, I really do, when the game goes right it hits that sweet spot so well and you come away with a shiny new rank knowing you were the best of the best in that game.

I wish I could recommend this game. I really wish I could. But I feel like Valve took an idea they didn’t create, and without properly knowing what was good about that idea took it in their own direction, which ended up ruining what I enjoyed about the game. I played entirely too much of this when it was in beta, and I enjoyed every minute of it, even when things weren’t entirely balanced. The polish Valve put on the game with the interface and coding was just miles above the competition. Perhaps its better now, but TFT wasn’t even a game when Riot released it. I feel Valve had a great head-start on the competition, but I feel they’re ruined it, and while I don’t have access to player numbers, I get the feeling those would back up my claim.

Ironbound

Ironbound

A basic concept; four class, with every member of a given class given an identical deck and level playing ground. The twist is that customisation comes through the usage of gear; two hands (either sword and board, dual wield, or two hander) and two trinket slots - offering a variety of possible builds without needing to sink buckets of cash into chasing legendary/mythic cards. Also, each class has Cruelty/Mastery/Resilience buffs you build up as you play, leading to inspiration for even more builds.

Real player with 201.4 hrs in game

Ironbound is a free-to-play turn-based strategy game. What I think of it is a turn-based RPG with card game elements to it.

There’s 4 classes: Berserker, Crusader, Assasssin and Witch. Each class has access to different types of weapons, shields and trinkets. You can buy various items for your classes (you can also use any class, it’s like if you had 4 deck slots in let’s say a card game, or 4 saved loadouts in some RPG game, except here is one per each class) to equip them how you want them to play. This is a pretty key part of the game, because some item build might be more effective against opponents you’re managing to get matched up again, but if you climb the ladder and find some new opponents that are using different builds which are completely destroying yours, you might have to change up your items to beat those. Not to mention each class has tons of various ways to be built.

Blood of Steel

Blood of Steel

This game was way better than I originally anticipated. A friend introduced this to me. At first, I wasn’t really pulled in by the visual design, but as I played it, I noticed I naturally got into it extremely fast. The game offers a wide variety of ways to get free skins and heroes through events they conduct. The game is updated and patched every week so there’s consistently new content being added either a new hero, event, and/or more.

Unranked matches can be quick to get into and are often fast so you can constantly get in and out of action. There are various game modes that have been added that are fun as well and can be rewarding to get free cosmetics, but some of them have time restraints that I would like to see removed to allow people to play them more often. Ranked matches can be difficult to get into depending on your rank, but can also be almost instant to get a match at times.

So after a while of playing im gonna have to change my review.

Games still a pretty good game. BUT…..

Theres a lot of bots.

and i mean ALOT of bots.

the Que time to get into a ranked match, is over an HOUR.

The combat system is pretty garbage to learn and doesnt work for everyone

Sometimes you cant even use abilities or even left click attack.

All the events are based around a specific time frame.

Too much time-based responsibilities.

The community managers will ignore your messages.

Even if its in the serious benefit for them.

Dogs of War Online

Dogs of War Online

Dogs of War Online is a fast paced turn based strategy game heavily influenced by the table top game Confrontation. It puts the player in the role of a mercenary leader, who can have multiple bands of mercenaries at his command. The game is currently in beta and at this stage offers little in the way of single player. There are 3 tutorial missions and training versus bots but then it is into the lobbies to test your skills and mercenaries against other players.

I have never played the table-top game but have spent many hours playing similar games. The mechanics or ‘rules’ of this game are very solid and make for a more realistic and exciting game than any other I have played on computer, the kitchen table or elsewhere.

EDIT May 30/2015: Unfortunately, it seems the population has bottomed out, and the developers have abandoned the game.

Very strategy-rich game, has lots of potential. Units have their own skill/spell tree, different combat interactions like parrying counterattacks dodging riposte, many atrributes and active or passive effects you have to all take into account throughout battle. Lots more classes/units planned as far as I saw on their wiki. Recommend to turn-based/strategy fans. It is not pay-to-win, since you get matched based on your army level - have a stronger army, then you face stronger armies. Don’t have many criticisms, its already pretty complex and its only in closed beta stage.

Find & Destroy: Tank Strategy

Find & Destroy: Tank Strategy

Great turn based strategy game, many hours of fun to be had.

Pros:

Great strategy value with several classes of tanks and customizable skill tree

Most tanks are buyable without premium currency

Free premium currency and items with daily missions

Cons:

Skill tree is the same for all tanks and pretty much fixed for predefined play styles.

Some low level skills are pretty much wasted skill points when you’re focused on getting the higher level ones for your play style (i.e: you need base capture in order to get visibility skills; or defense skill in order to get double shot)

Real player with 202.0 hrs in game

In short

It’s a turn-based mini World of Tanks clone:

  • gameplay is somehow simplified (no LoS, just FoG), but very sound;

  • microtransactions' benefits do not upset me (YMMV);

  • decent play against bots (if you are a lone human in your team and no humans are in the opposite team);

  • a multiplayer game with almost no players online.

Full review

It’s a turn-based mini World of Tanks. It’s a very good casual game, that would be a lot of fun to play, if there were more people playing it. If it got for a while a decent number of players, then player population should multiply very fast.
