Lawyer Guy: Defender of Justice

Lawyer Guy: Defender of Justice

It takes some time get used to the controls on keyboard; z is jump, x is shoot, arrow keys move left or right. V is what you press to create a checkpoint; you only get 4 checkpoints, so set them carefully. Overall, the game is fun and challenging for beginners who aren’t familiar with the genre. It’s still in early access, so there’s only one level available at the moment. I look forward to playing the rest when it’s fully released.

Disclosure - I am a Cool Playtester for this game (check the credits!)

I like this. It’s my kind of game, a 2D action platformer with a sensible but punishing difficulty curve that teaches you what it wants you to do but also lets you make mistakes. Levels are short and sweet once you understand what they’re asking you to do (about 3 minutes long) and there’s lots of space for optimising your route if you like to go back for better times/scores.

The game isn’t finished yet and there’s a lot of work to do to put all of it together, but the single level at the time of this review (November 2020) is representative of the others. I do believe the developer will finish this eventually, although he will take his time in doing so.

Rolling Bird

Yo, I’m the guy with the 1635530 score (check my “Area 51” thread in Discussions and the video description) and I recommend this game if you’re not only looking for a challenge but also a good way to learn to activate flow state.

If you rely on your ego, the waves of enemies will stomp you down with impunity. If you rely on confidence, the technicalities will trip you over. If you rely on caution, you’ll run out of ammo. You need knowledge, dead ego, confidence, and caution all at the same time or you’ll soon be overwhelmed one way or another. If you’ve entered flow state before, you know all this comes naturally. Except knowledge, of course. Once you’ve familiarized yourself with the controls and AI behavior, you’ve got a fine challenge ahead of you.

My oh my is this game addictive, so addictive in fact that I already have a good number of hours put into it despite downloading it not long ago. Rolling Bird is an arcade game based off of another arcade game by Bandai Namco called “Rolling Thunder”, it has the same game design and mechanics except it has a different art style and no story. This game’s art style is that of an 8 bit arcade one, it’s charming to say the least and although not as detailed as Rolling Thunder, it still has appeal, especially for those who are in love with the 80’s.

EverQuest

EverQuest

Firstly, I’ve been playing Everquest for 14 going on 15 years at this point. The amount of hours that Steam has tracked don’t do me any justice. That being said, Everquest has some serious problems. There was a time when I would have recommended the game and I have recommended the game. That time is past.

Pros:

  • A good community. The community overall is full of nice and helpful people. Yes, there is some people who definitely don’t fit that description but they are few and far between.

  • The game being modeled after tabletop D&D. The fact that somebody can have a max level character with all the best stuff in the game and still miss/have attacks dodged by lower level mobs is hilarious.

This game was good 10 years ago.Now it is junk, crashes, log-in issues, lag, and 15 year old graphics are what its about now. EQ is free to play but with conditions added. Daybreak makes new expansions with consist of 75% old zones that have been upgraded to a higher level and maybe 1 or 2 new ones. Mobs are copy and paste from all other zones so no new ones in a long time. All the special events are old ones that just keep coming back. Once in awhile something interesting will come along but far and few between. So after reading this i cant say any thing good about EQ anymore, theres other free to play games that are a lot better. But the one upside to EQ is that it does have a nice community, people are always willing to offer advice that will help you along.

The soundtrack, artwork, and story are a plus. The combat and character progression is a minus. I did not finish the game. I quit after spending 2 hours on a sliding, ice-puzzle.

The concept is fun, the levels are well designed, there are several bugs here and there but it is clear that this is still a WIP. Please allow me to share my own suggestions for further development: Not having checkpoints might be frustrating but would also shorten the game dramatically and may require additional challenges and/or collectibles, so I strongly suggest to add some. Achievements within the game for using more creative ways to reach the goal would also be welcome. Oh yeah… the camera! I think gamplaywise makes sense not to reveal everything but you know with some tweaks you can give an option to have it fixed on top with minimum tilt or make it free for the user to control, perhaps make it another character an owl keeping an eye on the bandits etc. Overall the puzzles have lots of logic behind them and with more juice this could become a super fun game.

Okay, so I don’t usually write reviews, but I think this game needs one.

Did I have fun? Yeah, I did.

I like the 3D style of the game, the mechanics, and the puzzle parts. Also, the music is charming, both on the menu and on the level.

However, I have come across some issues and complaints. First, if you get caught once, you have to restart the whole level from the beginning, and I feel that there should be checkpoints every time you complete a significant puzzle. Also, can the character swap not be on the mouse (should only be on the tab button) because it just feels offputting. Instead, could a camera panning mechanic be a function of the mouse because sometimes I can’t see what I’m doing correctly (like holding down the right-click and moving the mouse to look around). Also, SPOILER ALERT just finding the key to leave the cells in the first level took me 15 minutes because of a hidden ledge behind the wall (the camera angle did not indicate that I should be heading there).

Fun little time killer. The challenge is in ammo conservation - using the right tool for the job, and positioning yourself to account for trajectory. Free, so why not give it a go?

This is not just a game it is an experience. From the moment of hitting the play button I was entranced by the baroque storytelling. When I first stumbled upon this gem I had thought it would be just another boring free to play game but I was terribly mistaken. If there is one thing I would recommend to people to do in their life it would be to play this experience. Just give this one chance and you will not be disappointed.

After 2 weeks of coming back, it is obvious that this game is cashing out on its old legacy. It used to be an amazing game I admitted. But if you’re looking to come back for the good old days, there’s not much iRO can offer here.

  1. Pay2Win system:

It is against term of service to purchase in-game gold (zeny) using real cash. Yet it is ok to sell your warp portal energies into zeny ( which is obtained by cash). So the only way to cheat is to give money to WarpPortal.

Cash shop items also rendered many other in-game gear useless. And the only way to upgrade safely to +9 is to choke up $20-$50 in game cash for it.

better than most other pc games i have played and available free, although worth paying for.

like other titles on steam from the same developer, this game may appeal less to casual gamer, and more to players who want to take the time to learn the difficult to master and fast paced gameplay and options.
