RISK: Global Domination

RISK: Global Domination

This game is very well thought out and could be fun to play. I’ve been looking for a long time to play Risk with others online. I started playing Risk in 1968, when the game still had wooden pieces. I’ve played this 1968 game hundreds of times with my friends over the last 50+ years. This online game is nice, too, because it has other variations of play - other maps and settings, etc. This keeps the game from getting boring from everybody always trying to take Australia at the beginning of the game. But I found much to my DISMAY that the dice are RIGGED in favor of players who seem to have played the game here longer than me. I’m an accountant by trade, so I’m an expert in probabilities. Over and over again (4 out of 5 times), I’m either the fifth or sixth player out of six to get my first turn. Almost never am I first or second to start. Even worse, many times (too many to count) I have overwhelming odds of capturing a crucial country from an opponent (i.e. 9 armies to 1, or 12 armies to 2, etc.), and I lose ALL my armies, and the opponent comes through completely unscathed. The game program tells you the odds of capturing the country that you’re attacking - 75%, 80%, 90% & 95% - but dozens of times I EAT IT and I LOSE EVERYTHING just trying to take that one country. The game even claims that the program evens out the odds somewhat so these big losses can’t happen. But constantly I have the odds overwhelming in my favor, but it doesn’t work out that way at all. After playing the old board game with REAL DICE hundreds of times, losing 9 armies to 1 only happened ONCE, way back in 1974 (I remember it to this day, I was so P/O’ed), but I estimate this has happened to me 150 times so far with THIS game, out of playing 200 games. This really sucks, and its made me so mad I’ve considered deleting this game from my library! Maybe though, if I keep playing it the odds for my dice rolling will improve. We’ll see…

I feeled the need to make a review because this game get too much hate for what it is.

Yes there’s a premium mode that you can get for 10€ so you can play as long as you want.

So it’s not really a free to play but you can still play 2-3 games per day against other player and it’s unlimited against bots.

You have access to EVERY maps even if you don’t own them. You just need the DLC to HOST a game but you can still join someone who own theses maps.

It’s not a demo (people said this in some review) because you can play the entire game and even play to the DLC maps. The game is limited in a way that you can’t play as long as you want but hey… It was a mobile game so ofc things are not the same on mobile. There’s some change to be made are people can share their though about it (and they should) but this game is what it is supposed to be, it’s Risk. The devs seems to care about the opinion of the community and are trying to improve the game for the PC gamers we are.

I love this game. But as Monopoly stands right now, I have to give the game a negative review. For a multitude of reasons. (The only good thing is Thank-God it’s basically a FREE game)! But the negative reviews DON’T LIE!

Bottom Line Issues:

1. The disconnecting issues have been brought up by many, but never fixed. The BS ‘Hotfives’ did absolutely nothing.

2. In the beginning of the game, you still land on Milan. And then Sydney…and so on. This was brought up by many, but never fixed. Once, maybe twice have I ever found this to be different…And when so, 1st roll lands on Lost Island…What a Treat!

  • You are able to play with your friends for only 24 hours (except 2v2 against randoms), after that you gotta subscribe for $1 a month. bullshhhhhhhht

  • Queuing with a friend means nothing - most of the time you play 2v2 against the friend you queued with

  • It’s P2W

  • If a friend disconnects due to some issues, he cannot reconnect

also.. wtf are those bots AI :-D my friend disconnected due to internet connection problems, her bot jumped on chance - give up a city to opponent. well guess which city the bot gave to the enemy team? ofc the one who was worth the most and had hotel, which lead us to lose.

  • From a quick look at the game, being a game developer myself, first of all I think the mechanics are really, really good for a game like this. They don’t look all that good at first glance, but are unbelievably fun to actually play.

  • I think that in a way the game feels a lot worse than it is because of the UI, and I think a reskin would really improve the feel of the gameplay in general.

  • An undo would be useful, but i think a confirm before moving might be a better option, especially as a small mistake can end the game. That way you get to see what will be caused by your actions.

Fun game! As the other reviews say, it is comparable to a much simpler version of chess.

The AI (even on hard) is pretty easy, though, and the only option for online multiplayer is 24-hours per turn, which makes it difficult, since player on player games can easily last 20+ turns. I’d recommend at least trying this game (it’s free!) and it’s even better if you have a friend to play it with (as there is a hotseat option).

If there were online, 1 minute turns, (and maybe a ranked system at some point), I think this game could really take off.

Basic little card game that moves your characters with the choices you make, looks and feels like a mobile port but looks great. Easy to understand and easy to play game .Not exactly my cup of tea but is free and recc to anybody who does enjoy card games!

Card Hunter

Card Hunter

If you have ever enjoyed playing a table-top fantasy game then I would definitely suggest giving this game a try. It is very nostalgic to the early days of AD&D and full of adolescent sibling rivalry and nerd humor. The interplay between card use and the figures on the map is very well thought out. Like any game there can be some mini-maxing going on, but, if you want to play the game for fun, then there is a lot of fun variation that can go on. The game has single player, cooperative, and player versus player modes. And, yeah, regardless of how well you make a deck of cards for your character, board tactics, and the-luck-of-the-draw can make or break a scenario or match, but that’s part of what makes this game fun and challenging.

I enjoyed the game. Lots of choices.

It is free to play and you don’t have to spend $ to beat the game. The pvp on the higher levels would require to have better cards, but it’s farmable if you are willing to put the time in.

Catan Universe

I love playing Catan, but as other reviews have noted, there are some flaws with this online version of the game. They seem to come up more often when the AI is increased to Veteran or Master.

1. Trades with AI are often ignored. I approve them, the games acts as if it’s rejected. Eventually, you can only trade if you initiate, and you must get a ? port to have a chance to win.

2. The AI target the human player with the robber, even when the human player is losing. I had 3 points and no cards, but still the AI put the robber on me over and over when the other AI had more points and many cards. 5 times in a row at the beginning of the game, even after they’d robbed all of my starting resources.

Alright ladies and gents, listen up. As someone with over 350 hours on record, I’m gonna give you the low down of this online game.

TLDR; the rolling system sucks, full of bugs, development cards suck, don’t download or buy…yet.

So firstly, I must say that I am an avid Settlers of Catan player. I own every expansion available in the United States and play some form of the game at least once every couple of weeks. I’ve been playing for 17 years. I love the board game and have recently taken to trying variants such as Poverty is No Shame.

Imagination - Online Board game

Imagination - Online Board game

Imagination is an online analogue of Dixit or Imaginarium (it might be more familiar for russian-speaking guys). You have to guess your opponent card, matching his phrase association with images.

Yes, game has some bugs and things to be improved like

  • currently you can join the party only via invite on steam (in 2020, really?)

  • strange randomization of cards, you play with the same card set through several games in a row

  • game just hangs really often ;-;

  • bot is stupid (sorry, Bot)

  • nice to have paid card deck with new cards. Dear devs, please collaborate with artists and provide us more beautiful and interesting cards, I’d love to pay for them!

Real player with 53.6 hrs in game

This game is great for “right brained” or creative thinking types of folks, and the art is soothing.

It doesn’t take long for a pick-up table to fill up, though most of the other players have been bots so far.

I was kind of lost the first time through, so I hope a tutorial is in the works, but I got the hang of it by the second game.

It is on sale for only 49 cents this weekend, so take a chance and support a creative game where no one has to die! :)

Onirim - Solitaire Card Game

Onirim - Solitaire Card Game

One of the best card games I’ve ever played. Onirim remains really entertaining even after you have played it for some time. The tutorial is simple and very helpful. The game is pretty fast, so you can play it even when you are in a rush. The main game is based more on the chance that you won’t get too many nightmare cards, but there are three expansions which make the game more strategical.

I also recommend you the physical game which has four other expansions. I really hope some day those expansions will be released also on the digital version of Onirim.

Base Game (free):

Since the base game is free, I recommend you just give it a try.

Also: It’s really free. No weird micro transactions or time outs or anything like that (which is a plus to me). The only thing you can pay for is two expansions which enhance the game a little should you get bored of the base game but are not necessary to make the game enjoyable by any means. Overall a very fair and consumer friendly business model!

Gylph Expansion (free when creating an account):

You can get this expansion by creating an account (subbing to a newsletter is optional). The expansion adds gylphs which can be used as location cards using their own unique symbol or to look at the next five cards in your deck, put them in any order you like and move them to the bottom of your deck. If any of these cards happens to be a door you can open it for free regardless of colour and you’ll likely need it since the expansion also gives you four more doors to open (one for each colour).

Shadow Hunter

Much love for this game, and it was free to play?!?!

I like good old Microsoft minesweeper.

I think that fondness carries over to Shadow Hunter,

picking out the shadows and traps behind the smoke.

If you read, and pay attention, the game is explained well.

I struggled getting started because I half-read things, and

just started clicking away.

I particularly struggled with the fight (shadow master/camp)

part, totally because I read through it. I was just randomly

Ultimate Sudoku Collection

Unless I recounted packs somewhere, you get around 140 free puzzles, roughly ten each of specific types of layouts. The navigational menu on the left seems a bit finicky, but you can choose a type, then choose from the subtypes. The various layout range from the classic to butterfly and jigsaw, so it’s pretty varied.

The instructions seemed a little lacking, but it’s suduko. 1 to 9 in a grid or other shape, no number can repeat in a line, column or box. There’s no music at all, and the design is what you see in the trailer. It’s nothing fancy, but certainly more colorful that a lot of printed puzzles.

Real player with 38.0 hrs in game

Just a simple sudoku game. They have basic puzzles, but also all kinds of special ones if you desire an extra challenge. Not really a game that you’d binge, but I like to do it once in a while and it keeps your brain working. The user interface is nice and you can use fullscreen.

The game is free to download and comes with 10 levels for every category. If you’d like to do more you need to buy extra levels, but these are fairly easy ranging from about €1-2 for 250 levels that provide several tens of hours of puzzles. It’s a nice game for people to try out sudoku for free. Lastly, it’s nice that the developers don’t force you to buy the full game but instead allow you to buy the categories that you personally like.
