Band of Defenders
lol this game is FREAKING AWESOME the more I play it the more I love it,
seriously (not sarcasm) this is easily one of the best games on Steam,
takes fps ‘skill’, has all kinds of upgrades and weapons and turrets and barricades to get, all kinds of strategies to try out and test,
has solo and multiplayer etc etc
-Easily- one of the most under-rated games on steam, and maybe one of the biggest ‘hidden gems’ I ever played in my whole gaming life.
Anyone down-voting this either came in with massive preconceptions about the game or was expecting something else, there is absolutely nothing wrong with this game other than it’s too short (lol),

The Good:
I like this game a lot - really fun co-op with friends. Small community which can be good or bad depending on how you look at it. You can share weapons you craft with friends which is pretty cool. The game has a lot of potential and I’m excited to see where the developers take it. I like that you can instantly reorganize your defense between rounds (if you misplace a turret or wall, there is an “undo” option which can be used immediately or in any round after).

Tactical Squad: SWAT Stories
Take on the commanding role for an advanced special weapons and tactics team. Tactical Squad: SWAT Stories places great focus on realism, drawing not only from the rich history of tactical games, but also real-life situations where deployment of similar units was necessary. Your squad members communicate with each other, respond to situations, and combat hostiles. Make sure you issue the correct orders but be aware that you’ll be in the middle of the action performing many tasks yourself!
As a highly-trained operator and member of a key tactical unit, you and your people will be sent on a number of highly dangerous missions. As active participants of these operations, you and your agents will also see some intricate events unfold in front of your very eyes. Become the witness of conspiracies, criminal activities, and some very dangerous games. Your real enemies may just be where you least expect them…
There is of course no chance of clearing objectives without the right resources, both in terms of people and equipment. Make sure your squad consists of the right specialists, depending on what you’re looking to accomplish:
– scouts
– assault troops
– riot controllers
– technicians
– snipers
But where would they be without their highly specialized equipment? Have your SWAT officers gear up using top-quality items, with three different categories distinguished among them:
Weapons:
– semi-automatic pistols
– submachine guns
– automatic rifles
– shotguns
– as well as an array of non-lethal measures
Apparel:
– combat uniforms
– Kevlar vests
– riot shields
– helmets
– comm units
Accessories:
– grenades
– high explosives
– first-aid
– drones
– hacking devices
– and other useful electronic gadgets
Every situation you and your squad end up in requires careful assessment if you want to bring everyone back to headquarters in one piece. Pay attention to the briefing and study whatever intel you get before you set out to complete the mission. Tactical Squad is set in a number of different settings, from offices to industrial compounds to even a sprawling old mansion. It is up to you to know the paths for your team to take, the available cover and the potential hazards in the form of armed hostiles and innocent bystanders. Always be aware of your surroundings or suffer the consequences.
Always know what you’re doing, but more importantly – know why you’re doing it. The game features missions with a number of different objectives:
– eliminating bloodthirsty terrorists,
– capturing ruthless criminals,
– rescuing vulnerable hostages,
– recovering valuable intel,
– clearing key locations of hostiles.
Use your tactical wit to the best of your abilities. Don’t leave anything up to chance by using a special system of order queuing to ensure a smooth sequence of actions among your units. Embark on missions as a solo operative or with the assistance of your friends in co-op mode.
Keep your head down and keep it clear but press on and complete that mission. A good strategy is the key to succeeding in Tactical Squad.

Lemnis Gate
After playing this game on release, I said this about the title:
“Unique time travel elements make Lemnis Gate the most intriguing competitive shooter. The struggle to outmaneuver your opponent with mindful planning and skillful execution is exhilarating.”
Now that the game has been out for almost two months, I still agree with this statement. However, there are still some issues with the game. I’ll list some positives and negatives, ordered by how important/impactful I find them. Keep in mind that I have only played and am only interested in 1v1 turn-based. Some of my points probably apply to other modes as well, but in my mind, Lemnis Gate = Competitive 1v1 turn-based.

Lemnis gate has amazing potential. I know some players have experienced game breaking bugs. But thats not my experience, it can be buggy, the server does crash every so often. But I believe the devs can fix this later.
Now the gameplay, holy shit, its so good. This is the freshest game I’ve ever played, the concept hasn’t been done before and I love it. It feels like a game of chess with all the interaction and counter play. There is a pretty steep learning curve, more so then most FPS games. But once you get the basic idea of how the characters work, it all clicks together with how many options you have. Learning the ins and outs can be a little painful, but that feeling when you pull a massive 200 IQ play and completely blindside the enemy is worth every bad play you make along the way. its $20, great to play with friends. Give it a go, you wont regret it.

Bionite: Origins
At its current state I can’t recommend. I’ve re-downloaded when new updates were made, but sadly the game does not feel like BZ. The controls are too sophisticated (couldn’t implement the original’s?), unit AI needs a huge improvement, and many bugs just build on top of it all. Seriously though, commanding your constructor to build a guntower shouldn’t take more than 5 minutes. Bad pathfinding and controls plague a game where basic game mechanics should be a priority. Besides, 6+ years and it’s still in early access? Sorry, but donating to them was a mistake.
– Real player with 2.0 hrs in game
As others have said, this game unfortunately seems to have grinded to a halt since 2018? Developers obviously lost interest. It’s a buggy mess that is COMPLETELY unplayable at this stage; controls are wacky and nothing seems to work correctly. Don’t buy it.
I think everyone was hoping something great would come of this spiritual successor… it’s a shame. Oh well, Battlezone 98 Redux and Battlezone: Combat Commander are on Steam now at least.
EDIT in response to developer:
I fully understand that game development is very difficult, especially when starting out or with only a small team, and as such, many projects take years to develop.

Out of Ammo
This game creatively mixes tactical and first person shooter elements together. You build a base, and see how long you can survive the onslaught of never-ending waves of enemies. You can take control of individual soldiers to turn the tide of the battle in first person perspective. My friend and I have had fun playing this for many hours.
The tactical aspect is simple: a helicopter regularly flies in to drop off soldiers and equipment. The equipment you use to build structures(like a guard tower, sandbag bunker, medic tent). The soldiers come in a variety of classes and they specialize in different functions(rifleman, medic, engineer, sniper, etc). You basically just hold your position for as long as you can as you get attacked by soldiers, tanks, etc. You also have some special abilities you can call in, like artillery fire and strafing runs.

Watching gameplay of this title before my Vive came in, I was somewhat unimpressed by the simplistic graphics, and I thought it didn’t look like all that compelling of a game.
Holy crap I was wrong.
Out of Ammo is incredibly intuitutive, challenging, fast-paced, and certainly a great showcase of what room-scale VR can really do, and I am incredibly excited to see what the dev team plans on adding in the future. One thing that certainly doesn’t come across in videos is how the game places you in the world. In videos, it looks like the ground (when controlling units from above) is roughly at knee level, but in-game, the ground is actually closer to waist level, and I wish I could explain how immersive this makes controlling your units.

Attack on Toys
Army Men
This is probably the most precious hidden gem in steam store. You get a super cheap price (or free if you download from their main site) for a massive gameplay content with potential to be even more in future. Map is completely free-roam you can hook or jetpack your way onto anything, build anywhere, place any soldier or vehicle everywhere, drive or enter any emplacement or vehicle, even a mega robot. Personally fight the war in a front line or act as a commander and use map feature to command your troop in basic RTS style. Furthermore they have included toybox mode which basically allow you to create your own map and adding any little props or detail however you want, giving an unlimited idea to expand replayability map with community help via workshop feature.

This is a fun game to play. I hope to see more content later on, in the future. Maybe a terrain manipulator tool would be a good idea, so we can be more creative. I Also hope to see some game logic tools as well. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to implement, a player level pallet, so when the player completes a level, it go’s on to the next level, that the player has made. More map props i think are needed. A much needed level variety I think would be good. In the map maker, I think it would be nice to have a clear all option, instead of individually deleting every map prop. I think the camera needs to be fixed, when going into buildings, makes it hard to give commands to units when the camera floats into the ceiling. It would be nice to be able to spawn unites inside on buildings, instead of spawning them out side of the building, then having them follow you inside, then having to fight with the player’s camera. But over all the game is very fun, it brought back childhood memories, like Army men 3D, Army men world war, Army men air sea land, Army men RTS, Army men Sarge’s Heros 1, and 2.

Hold your houses

Infinite Tournament Paintball
Dev listens to community, updates are constantly added, game play improves with each update, when bugs show up the community is quick to respond and the developer gets right to work on the issues. Solid game it has its bugs but for what it is this game is awesome. Developer is always open to new map ideas, guns, animations, player models etc… 4/5 stars

Being someone who played the Greg Hastings Paintball games, Infinite Tournament Paintball definitely brings back memories of those older paintball titles. The game is made by a dedicated and extremely friendly Developer who works night and day to try and make sure bugs are fixed and new content is added. Even if you don’t play paintball this game is tons of fun and the community is so friendly so jumping into a game is super easy! Be sure to join the discord that the game has to see when people are playing!
