Far Cry 3

Far Cry 3

After revisiting this game I must say yes, the gameplay/gunplay is pretty good, the setting is good and the story is… fine, I guess? It has many good features that, of course, no FC game had before because up until 3 all titles of the franchise were their own thing (while still being gems imo).

Unfortunately tho, with the amount of features it has to make your life easier, the overall gameplay just becomes too easy. I always considered FC2 and especially FC1 to be notoriously difficult, but FC3 feels like a walk in the park compared to those.

Gonna say it straight up, probably the best piece of media coming out of the Far Cry franchise. It is definitely not the best Far Cry game, but its 100% the best thing that came out of the franchise, for several reasons.

Far Cry 1, Far Cry 2 and Far Cry 3 are all different games. They feel different, they play different, they have different mechanics and they have different characters. Far Cry 1 is a clunky mess, Far Cry 2 is fun, probably the second best thing coming out of the Far Cry franchise, and then there is Far Cry 3.

Far Cry® 2: Fortune’s Edition

A very sophisticated game, has alot of mechanics that don’t really make sense regarding game design wise (like malaria) but they still work, they fit with the african setting really well. These game design choices also make the game feel different from other entries in the franchise, and we can see with hindsight that this is really important for a game. The game is also generally pretty good, has good gunplay, graphics, sound and an interesting premise. Obviously I recommend this.

It’s… ok. It’s main selling point is the brutal realism it tries to show off. Fire mechanic is cool. It spreads out and causes the grass and trees to burn up. The healing animations when you’re low health are explicitly neat. A lot of people hate the gun-jamming mechanic when your gun gets worn out but I think it adds to more of the realistic setting Ubisoft was trying to go for.

However, there are a few major cons. Guard Outposts respawn when you leave and come back. Driving through the world gets really frustrating and annoying really quick. These outposts are on every road and driving through them means you get shot up bad. If you’re lucky you can drive through and manage to escape. But, most of the time, they cause your vehicle to break down. Forcing you to get out and fight them all again. Either that or a couple of them get into their gun-mounted vehicle and chase you to the ends of the map.

Far Cry® New Dawn

Far Cry® New Dawn

Far Cry New Dawn’s post-apocalyptic version of Hope County is essentially the same one we know from Far Cry 5. Once again the locals are being terrorized by armed gangs speeding around in infinite trucks while furious bears and homicidal turkeys leap from the bushes to claw at anything that moves. New Dawn adds a couple new twists to the series' formula—at times you can leave Montana to visit other states—but nothing to make it feel like a wholly different game. This is Far Cry 5 again, just on a smaller scale and with more pink flowers.

Game just crashes to desktop REPEATEDLY and at random. No way to tell when it is going to happen and there’s no error message. You play and then suddenly the screen goes black, then you are back at the desktop and the Ubisoft launcher is trying to sync your game with the cloud. Have tried every single option people have posted online about how to “fix” this and none work. We are now FAR away from the video drivers (nvidia) that were thought to be a problem for this game (the recommendation a couple years ago was to go back to an old driver). Trying this today will break some of your newer games. Locking your screen refresh (another suggestion) does nothing. Turning off or leaving off HDR does nothing. The game just doesn’t work. NO other game I have has anything remotely like this problem. It is organic to THIS game.

My Thoughts:

What started out to be a charming game with great physics and weapon selection, soon crumbles into a looping disaster.

The game has issues and I could not even get past mission 3 without the game resetting. (See my Video)

I cannot recommend this game in it’s current state.

Amazing survival games, one of the best survival games I have ever played. 2 well-operated game modes with a very good atmosphere and immersion.

Jeux de survie incroyable, un des meilleurs jeux de survie que j’ai pu jouer. 2 modes de jeux bien exploités avec une très bonne ambiance et immersion.

Overall a pretty decent experience but I do have some feedback:

Survival Aspects: Way too easy. The cold and food and hunger were NEVER something I had to worry about. Every single house and shed is full of food and water, I actually started just randomly eating stacks of food to get inventory space (You can drop it but I do it my way ok?!) Add to that the wildlife. It’s everywhere. But NEVER a threat. I easily avoided any interaction and had no real reason to go after since every 5ft there was another supermarket in a shed. I know that balance is a part of a games development cycle, hopefully this will be tweaked because it made the entire ‘survival system’ feel pointless.

Far Cry® 4

Far Cry® 4

This may be one of the greatest games ever made, I’ve played a lot of Ubisoft titles through the years, and I’m sort of shocked that it took me so long to discover how awesome far cry is.

I’ve always loved call of duty campaigns, and far cry 4, feels an awful lot like an open world call of duty campaign, with in-depth interactivity and upgrade mechanics.

Pagan Min is awesome, and the game has held up extremely well.

Definitely made for the audience that would enjoy this sort of stuff.

Highly recommended.

I started to play this game on Android. But I was not good at moving and aiming with my thumbs while shooting the zombies. So, I was glad to see the game was available as a F2P on Steam and went on with it on the PC version instead.

The F2P aspect of the game is less invasive on the PC than on the mobile version. There, I could fully enjoy the game ; its story, its absurd humour, its even more absurd quests, and its full voice acting cutscenes, without any adds blocking up my screen everytime I checked my inventory.
