Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 - Uprising Review

I’m a fan of the Red Alert series, I still remember playing the very first RA back when I was like a kid, And now there’s this, RA3 Uprising. Whether playing with people through the co-op campaign of Red Alert 3 or the single-player aspects of Uprising, it’s all insanely fun. And that’s mainly what I want from my games: fun. I also think this was the last C&C in terms of having fun. I guess EA really knows how to ruin a franchise.

Red Alert 3 is a game I keep coming back to. It features all the good things that RA2 brought to the table all those years ago. It has hammy over the top B grade acting, units feel unique and have their own charm. You can tell that the makers did put some love into every unit, and into making them fun to command.

RA3 has greatly expanded on the naval warfare side of things, allowing almost all buildings to be built on the water and having more amphibious units in total. No longer shall your assault destroyer be confined to the waters, just drive it up onto land.

Battle Star

I played almost 40h and want to keep going. As a f2p I like that you can get all the characters without spending any money. The graphics are good, sounddesign is catching and the turnbased combat is right up my ally. The only thing I might add is the option to change gear during missionselection. Other than that I would also like to see a male character who talks more (srly girls are not in shortage but where are the men?). That aside, the combat is exciting and story interesting (at least for me). I do love me a good grind (I did spend more of less 70% of my playtime grinding ressources) but that might not be the case for everyone. You can take it ez though. I recommend you try it out for yourself. Can’t wait for more exciting updates. ;)

Summary: This is a pretty awesome game if you like SRPGs!

Story: It exists. It’s not great, it’s not terrible, just whatever. Pretty generic anime-esque stuff, a group of female fighters trying to take down the evil bad guys.

Artstyle/UI: Very good! The characters are clean and distinct, the attacks are flashy without being over-the-top. UI is tight and shiny, and easy to navigate. It’s anime style in the artwork, but chibi “big head” characters in the actual gameplay. It’s not distracting though, it’s very cute. Some character artwork is sexualized with huge cleavage, but compared to a lot of games of this stripe, it’s not over-the-top. Many characters are just badass/cool without being scantily clad.

Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars

Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars

With 200+ hours on this account for this game; I’ll make it quicker than I want it to be and I’ll be providing a TL;DR at the bottom.

This game is beautiful. No, not just because of the graphics since that does not make a game great. I’ll admit that being made in 2007: the graphics do hold very well to this very day. I’m talking about how the game feels to play, how much lore that you can unfold in this game and a very important point I will bring up later on.

The game itself is very easy to pick up and learn the basics such as what units do what, what your base does and many other things. As you progress through the story; you’ll meet bonus objectives that you can complete for a different medal at the end (great for you completionists). The campaigns can have some very challenging moments for newer players but it will make you do what you’re supposed to do: Come up with a strategy to win.

1995… A game named Command and Conquer appeared… and paved the way for an entire genre. It’s a name that many RTS veterans should be familiar with. The franchise had its ups and downs throughout the years. 2007, the long awaited sequel of Command and Conquer Tiberian Sun appears. Has it passed the test? Let’s see…

Visually, the game is downright gorgeous, even for today’s standards. You can tell at first glance, whether the map is situated in a still pristine Blue zone, a conflict-torn Yellow zone or in an almost unearthly Red zone. The units are also well designed and their appearance alone tells something about the respective faction. Topped off with non-excessive and neat special effects, the visuals give a good impression.

Svoboda 1945: Liberation

Svoboda 1945: Liberation

Svoboda 1945: Liberation was created by Charles Games in collaboration with the Institute of Contemporary History of the Czech Academy of Sciences. It blends fiction and historical accuracy and uses a diverse range of gameplay and storytelling techniques to recount experiences in Svoboda, a village near the Czech-German border during and after WWII.

The game includes historical documents, photographs, video footage and an encyclopedia that ground the stories in reality making the often harrowing accounts all the more emotive. In addition to the various real elements and factual information, the game also uses a mix of fictional aspects such as FMV video clips and conversations, explorable scenes, animated comic strips and mini-games to deliver the narratives.

Svoboda 1945: Liberation is the newest game to come from Czech developers, Charles Games. Following the critical success of Attentat 1942, the developers continue to convey history in innovative and engaging methods. Integrating FMV interviews, minigames, comic-style scenes and an abundance of factual documents to read, the game was fascinating from start to finish.

Pros

  • Varied gameplay and minigames throughout.

  • Immense collection of factual documents to read (optional).

Red Alert 3, for the first time in C&C history, featured a full coop campaign for all three factions. The Red Alert Spin-Off of C&C always was my favourite setting and Red Alert 3 didn’t receive the critical acclaim and fanbase it actually deserved. It played exactly like Red Alert 2, which personally is still my all time favourite C&C game right after C&C Generals.

The FMV scenes were cheezy as always and George Takeii did a brilliant job just playing himself in a samurai robe.

I have many fond memores for Red Alert and it still plays marvellous today.

Ratten Reich

Ratten Reich

Ratten Reich is a grim and unforgiving world, where war has continued for many years. The war is fought between rats, mice, roaches and lizards alike. Slum like cities, burnt corpses, steam tanks, soldiers in imperial uniforms and armor. And the soil, the mother of all, full of bomb craters and battle scars. Millions upon millions of fates, dreams — nothing more than ashes from the fires now.

This is the story we are trying to tell in an RTS game with interesting and unusual mechanics.

The Tzar army of roaches, monitor lizards, dozens of mice led countries under the flags of the great Franx and Angul will clash against the might of the Ratten Reich in an alliance with the lizards, who live in the land of the rising sun. This is Ratten Reich.

VR Modern Wars: Advance under air raid

VR Modern Wars: Advance under air raid

Fair play games do not get much worse than ‘VR Modern Wars: Advance under air raid’. This tank controlling game has only two levels and all you need to do is to drive to the beam of light. Sometimes that beam of light is literally right next to you and other times it is a little further away. You can fire your gun and turret, but you really don’t have to. There is no challenge here, no fun…in fact, I can’t think of a reason why anyone would want to download this! Sure, it only costs £1.69, but you could buy a nice bottle of pop for that and have way more fun.

This is my opinion just for the PROLOGUE based on what I experienced and what I feel after finished watching.

I received the Chapter 1 for free from the developer giveaway itself but I haven’t watching it yet.

PROS

–Artstyle.

I like the type of the simple character and environment drawing artstyle.

–Dialogue/story.

For me at least, the story is good to listen. I’m quite curious to know next chapter.

CONS

–I think this game is buggy, sometimes after finished cutscene especially the pink purple galaxy with stars, it keep repeating after I click to the next cutscene, I heard the voice, but the image is stuck and repeat on the galaxy scene with no subtitles for more than 6 times. In other case, if I press spacebar which is pause and menu, and after return to play, the cutscene and the commentator also repeat himself spoke again from previous dialogue.
