F-117A Nighthawk Stealth Fighter 2.0
Absolute belter of a game. Played this and F19 and the original Gunship! back in the nineties on a Commodore Amiga 500 then on a 1200 Amiga. (also played Gunship! and F19 on a Commodore C64 complete with wire frame graphics!) Later played on a PC not as good as on the Amiga’s. but then no PC is as good as the Amiga.
The game still is one of the best OK I am lucky I still got the original manuals, maps and keyboard overlays etc. which makes the games much more enjoyable for me than for those who do not. So here I am a 68 year old playing these games from decades ago which says a lot about the standard of gameplay from Microprose. In fact I am still playing my Microprose collection Gunship!, F19, F117A, Pirates!, Red Storm Rising, etc. on the Amiga 1200 (how many pc’s form the eighties are still going strong?) but well done to those involved in bringing this and other classics to a new generation.

If you are experiencing crashes with this game, load through Steam instead of your desktop shortcut and select “Play F117A in DOSBox Daum”. This should clear up your problems.
Sid Meier has always made amazing games in any genre he turns his hand to, and this was a great simulator in it’s day. Like all early 3D games, it hasn’t aged well superficially, but the gameplay is still very much enjoyable today. I’d love to see a modern remake with improved graphics and physics, and a more in-depth & cinematic career mode (but retaining the random mission generator).

Falcon A.T.
Needs a proper remake.

Aaa.. yes. I have had and played this game when I was 8 year old. Really needs to have a good PC to play this game sooo many years ago and I got killed a lot.
As a dosbox game that released on 1988 It had amazing graphics and details at the time but it wasn’t that big of hit because of tough control, and high spec recommendation. So 28 years later I have just got this game on steam and I have tried to replay it. YEs.. I still suck at this but it’s much more managable. You really need to actually like retro graphics to be able to enjoy this game at this day and age. Control is still really iffy but takes a bit practice and you will be fine.

F-117A Stealth Fighter (NES edition)
I took me two atempts to get warm with this game but then it was fun.
I got it for 1 euro in a sale and its worth that. For just 1 euro you can bomb beautiful places like Libya.
Good classic for people that like that charm. Very well emulated.

F-19 Stealth Fighter
F19 Stealth Fighter is a gem from Microprose of late 1980s.
Early Microprose released several fight simulators which gradually became better and better, especially from gameplay perspective. F19 is the top Microprose game before Civilization and it has the last Sid Meier’s flight simulator gameplay, the endpoint of Sid’s flight evolution if you will.
F19’s gameplay is a brilliant mixture of flight simulator and stealth. To my knowledge, currently it is still unique. In other words, you will not find a similar gameplay in modern games.

Sweet merciful crap. It’s back! It’s really back!
One of my earliest memories from when I was a tiny micro-kid back in ancient times was going to my grandpa’s house and seeing this game on his computer. He had a tendency to earn distinguished flying crosses and then die horribly before he could get back to base. … Anyway. I naturally sank about 11 billion hours into this game before the advent of things like graphics and operating systems that weren’t DOS came along and drew me into other things.

Fleet Defender: The F-14 Tomcat Simulation
To the best of my knowlidge, this remains the first and only F-14 Tomcat simulator meant to give the full experience of flying the F-14 in combat. I beleive there are some F-14s for FSX or other civilian flight sims that due a very good job, better than this simulator, of portraying the experience of flying the F-14 from the pilot’s seat, but I don’t think they model weapons systems.
The learning curve on this simulator, as with other study sims of it’s day like Falcon 3.0 and it’s Hornet and MIG-29 addons, is steep for those not used to combat flight sims of this era. Having said that, once you learn how to fly the jet and work it’s systems, it’s a rewarding experience.

The question you first need to ask yourself is:
Why should I confront my eyes with a resolution of 320x200 for hours?
The answer is:
-
You fly the Grumman F-14B Tomcat
-
You feel like being in Top Gun as both Maverick and Goose flying with Icemen on your side.
-
You can switch seats between the pilot and the radar intercept officer (RIO)
-
Accurately modeled avionics and weapons
-
Complex AWG-9 radar (adjustable to make it simpler if needed)
-
A big manual written by a F-14 pilot
-
Lot’s of training missions like (radar training: Identify formations, headons against different fighters etc.)

Comanche 4
It could do with a slight graphics update, like fixing the Havoc at long range and the Apache at short range, fixing level of detail switching in trees to make it invisible, never having FARPs in a bunch as it makes the FARP arrow have a seizure, but still looks and plays fine like it did in the past. Some of the missions could be tweaked so that you can get to the enemy before the friendly units take hits from them. The Bradleys at the FARPs in Red Ferret and Icebox keep getting killed and could be removed entirely. The Geckos cannot be damaged if hit just between the turret and hull. In Terminal Zone the Abrams tanks can die from going over hills at speed (they take fall damage). Some M113A3 would be nice too.

30 missions, 1 training mission, it works with mouse and keyboard and in Windows 10
It is a good game, varied missions, some missions are pretty easy and short but several require more skill.
I dare to say that some missions are unbalanced, like the one when you have to check a chemical plant and then destroy it, mission starts as an stealh mission and then it becomes a full attack mission, the site you have to destroy is too big for your fire capacity and you will have the replenish numerous times in a mission that it was supposed to be hit and run.

Falcon Gold
This game is an absolute masterpiece, and even though I think A.T and the first one are more fun, this one is fun to pick up and play for a while. For the time this was made in, around ‘91, this was one of the more realistic flight simulators out there, and the word goes that many computers with even the most top tier 486 processors back in the day weren’t able to process this baby at full frames.
Listening to Queen while playing this game at 21000 cycles in DOSBox is some of the most fun I’ve had with flight simulators in a while.

Ok, as in my other reviews for such sims you need to ask yourself the question:
Why do you want to fly such an old simulation?
-
You are flying a F-16 with the avionics of an “A” model (characteristic is the radar/electro-optical display and the stores control panel) and additionally via seperate addons the F/A-18 Hornet and the MiG-29 Fulcrum.
-
Participation in a serious and big training course. Lot’s of Red Flag preset and theoretical training missions (Defensive BFM, Head on BMF, Offensive BFM, Lessons from the manual etc.) and you can create and edit your own missions.

Red Baron Pack
I recommend this game WITH EXTREME RESERVATIONS. This pack comes with three games: Red Baron Classic, Red Baron 3d and Red Baron 3d multiplayer (which I’ve never booted up.)
If you’re buying this for classic, the game seems to work fine. Both Classic and 3d do not come with a hotkey list, as near as I can tell these are direct ports and the originals would’ve had physical copies. However the hotkeys are available online here http://www.sierrahelp.com/Documents/Manuals/Red_Baron_-_Manual.pdf
for classic and here

Ever since I saw gameplay footage of IL-2 I wanted to play a war flight sim. I was already obsessed with planes so it was a natural progression to start playing the sims. Now I dont have a nice computer, just a laptop that was not meant for any kind of beautiful sweeping landscapes of the IL series. IL 1946 can’t run on this thing. So I did some digging and found Red Baron 3D. While I was set on a WW2 sim, I am completely on board with Red Baron 3D. It is a little simpler compared to the more crafted sims we can get now, but it hits all of the check marks for me. Campaign is frustrating and fun, as you go through the weeks and months of the war. Some days your plane will fly high above the enemy and you can enjoy the superiority that your plane has over inferior enemy planes. Then next month the other side slips in a new plane that can outclass you and you are struggling just to survive missions. Its awesome. The load times are damn near instantaneous, and the flying is fun. I could go on and on about this game, and I wish the mods that the community made for this game back in the early 2000’s were still around. You’ll enjoy this sim 100%, and at 9.99 its just to good of a purchase to pass up if you are on the fence about it

STAR WARS™: Rogue Squadron 3D
I didn’t have the PC version of this back in the day, I had the N64 version. When I saw it on Steam, I knew right away that I would be picking it up sooner rather than later. I’m not thrilled with the PS### or XBox controllers, so I bought a USB N64 style controller for this game.
I sold my N64 and most of my games for it earlier this year… I’m now glad to have RS back in my playable library.
The gameplay is solid. Spot on to what I remember loving about this game nearly 20 years ago. While I’m still trying to sort the button configuration(not a Steam flaw… this is user-side)…. playing with the “stock” config is still tons of fun! The graphics are still amazing, considering when it came out. In that, it’s dated well. I’m actually quite glad it hasn’t been “updated” with 1080p graphics and a billion stupid achievements that younger gamer seem to love.

The game is OK!
I finished the game with all gold medals and i am going to resume it:
if you wanna play this game WITHOUT finishing it 100%, it’s one of the best game you will ever play.
if you wanna play this game DOING all the gold medals and shits…. it’s going to be difficult… i mean DIFFICULT…
DIFFICULT
NOT 100%:
Pro:
-
16 levels of pure “Luke Skywalker help us destroying this big enemy!”
-
the gameplay is different every level, you are going to play different missions and style

F29 Retaliator
An oldie, for sure, but if you like this kind of game, definitely worth playing through.
It doesn’t have the immersiveness of contemporaries like F19 Stealth Fighter, but the dogfighting is good fun.
The entire campaign can be played through in a day, so don’t expect enormous replay value from this one.
