Early Access review of Version 0.5

A fun little game, I lost it in less than 3 hours! I wouldn’t say it’s worth the full five bucks yet, but it easily could be [worth more than that] by the time it gets to v1.

Seems to be updated about once a month, most of the complaints in the other posts are no longer applicable. It’s not perfect, duh, it’s not even v1 yet. I do plan to head over to the Discussions next to express some of my ideas on how to improve it.

I guess everyone likes a procon list, so I’ll try one. This is based only on my first playthrough.

The game is all about fishing and running your own boat for sure. There are multiple types of nets and fish and fishing areas to be had so its not just the same all over the map. There is some definite strategy needed if you want to succeed at this game. My youngest loves fishing games but this one is more like temple run in that you can’t just be casual about fishing at the start because you need 5000 by day 20 and then 35000 by the next day 20. I had about 10 various nets going around an island and I couldn’t break 10,000 thanks to my characters needing to sleep so much. You really only have about 7 days when you take out the 8 hours they need to sleep each day or pass out at the helm (yah!) I suppose if I played this enough times I would get good at it but after failing twice now I think I will just move on to something else. I’ve played other debt payback games and have not figured out how to make the best bang for my buck and time in this one. Maybe hints or character dialog could give some pointers to new players? Overall a good strategy game though.

The Catch: Carp & Coarse Fishing

The Catch: Carp & Coarse Fishing

I like the game but to be fair it is very similar to FSW in game play and appearance. I was expecting more but but am very willing to give the fishing sim a fair go. In FSW its so easy to catch fish they nearly throw themselves at you but in The Catch you have to use at least a tiny part of ur brain instead of hope for the best mentality which I welcome gladly. Had no boss fish yet but that is also a welcomed change for catching 1 every other cast (PLEASE don’t change that).

EDIT, forget this rubbish. Dovetail Games never fix any problems or glitches in there games and are only interested in DLC’s. Its such a shame coz The Catch Course and Carp could really be something, but the devs (HMMM THE MANAGEMENT) don’t care at all and are only here for a money grab. SO MANY issues in game that it would take me days to point out, maybe some realistic testing of the game before release should have been an option (NO WORK DLC’S)

If you enjoyed Fishing Sim World i see no reason why you should not like this game and i think you will enjoy the changes.

If your looking to buy this game for the first time this fishing game is not a full on fishing simulation / simulator type game , but is a fun enjoyable game to play with some sim like elements . (Can also recommend Fishing Sim World Pro Tour)

Personal opinion

i would of personally liked to have seen this game as a update and dlc added to Fishing Sim World Pro Tour rather than a individual game i cant help feeling that they have killed fsw off with the release of this game and am left wondering if i will play fswProTour again ?? due to playing The Catch Carp & Coarse.

I stumbled upon this game while taking a look through early access titles. The first thing that caught my eye was that it is survival. The second thing that really peaked my curiosity was spiri animals. What, are you kidding me?! Who does that?! How could that work?! Well, let me tell you, I was immediately engrossed in the visually pleasing artistry and placement of all the points of interest giving it a realistic feel which we all try to find in these MMO’s. You can roam this huge map for hours and you’ll see something new every time. There is always something to do as in any survival game, it’s hard not to get distracted! Weather you like solo play or group play, pvp or pve, exploring or building, this is the game for you! The Developers are always interactive and enjoy playing right along side even the newbies so you don’t need to be a high lvl to be noticed! Now, with that said, I won’t go into obvious details which every new game, especially early access, about what I don’t like about Spirit Animal Survival because negatives are to be expected and my likes, or loves rather, outweigh the things that are still being worked on. It is, after all, a work in progress. Look, all I’m trying to say is, stop reading this already and come in, enjoy some great company with friendly people and have some fun! If you’re waiting for the invite, well, this is it! Don’t hesitate, I hear the sale price will be ending soon! Also wanted to add, if you’re concerned with the minimum requirements, I know it says min i5, I’m running an i3 with the only real issues being in the loading and shutting down, the game play is practically flawless! Don’t let that be what scared you away, let it be that big bad T-Rex that one shot you!

Before I write my thoughts, I saw someone post false information that I’d like to correct. You actually CAN report bugs without having to use a 3rd party chat software called Discord. There is a big box in the main menu (as seen in one of the videos above) that clearly states you can report bugs by contacting them via their email at support@spiritanimalsurvival.com - if the forum or Discord is not your way to go, there is always that solution for you.

Now on to my actual thoughts of this game in its current state! Spirit Animal Survival (SAS) is another survival game with some unique elements in it. The features you expect in a survival game are there, you need to go get resources, craft and build, while trying to stay alive by eating, drinking and not letting others/animals kill you. You got to do a bit of grinding but that’s part of the games in this genre. The most unique feature of the game is that you can transform/morph into a spirit animal. There is a bunch of them and all of them have their own attacks/features. This does set the game apart from other survival games that I have played. You can see how this work in the videos above.

Catch’em

Catch’em

Lucky me gets to write the first review of Catch’em, which is a 2D retro pixel fishing simulator/clicker game. Gameplay consists of clicking on the screen a lot to make it seem like you’re fishing, so basically what you would expect from a crapware mobile screen tapper game, but for some reason, inflicted on PC gamers instead, via the wonderful DailyIndieGame shovelware bundles.

I don’t know if this is an asset flip or a template flip, I never saw this one before, but it’s garbage anyway. 2D retro pixel “art” used instead of proper graphics, locked resolution, low resolution (jaggies everywhere), terrible attempt at “gameplay”.

Fishing Sim World®: Pro Tour

Fishing Sim World®: Pro Tour

This game has the potential to become an awesome game. In fact, its still good and enjoyable.

Lets start with some good things:

  1. Graphics! Water, fish, enviroment.

  2. Feeling of the rod and the fish. I have tried some other fishing games. And I couldnt make myself love them because I couldnt feel the mass of the fish, the resistance of the fish and the rod. In Eurofishing and in this game as well, I have the feeling that I am really fighting with the fish. May be its achieved by the vibration may be its just me, but i really enjoy the feeling when fighting with the huge carp or catfish. I still think you can tweak the resistance of the fish to make it a bit harder.

I am a software engineer, have been working on triple A games as a UI developer and understand the constraints of game development. I am 50 and have been a gamer since I was 12. I love gaming and am especially very aware of what create a good immersion and what breaks it.

Coming from Ultimate Fishing Simulator I am enjoying Fishing Sim World, good graphics, atmospheric and the fish fighting/animations are much improved compared to euro fishing.

Good to see updates are coming at very regular intervals, here are a couple of improvements that I could suggest:

Hero of the Kingdom: The Lost Tales 2

Hero of the Kingdom: The Lost Tales 2

This is the fifth (5th) entry in the series and again, it differs enough from the others to make it unique. The basic game play is the same as it is still first person although this time you are a Princess saving the Kingdom and how fun is that! There are a few places to camp, where you may also prepare food (eggs) and a couple of inns where you can sleep for 20 gold per night. There are also eggs to gather as well as roots, mushrooms, crates, barrels and fishes, etc.; however; there ARE limited quantities of each, so there’s lots of strategy involved in how you eat, rest, sell, and buy your way through the game, which I absolutely love, because you can play it differently each time. It’s choc-a-block full of fighting, so potions of every type are needed, but don’t make too many at a time and have them left over, cause no one buys the potions - only the ingredients - but (yeah for us OCD’ers) there are buyers for “almost” everything else. It’s truly another home run for this team and I’ll be playing it several times because I found it to be a such a great challenge! Well done, Lonely Troops!

I love this series of games and this is a solid addition. Almost everything you liked in the other games will be there, but almost everything you didn’t like will be there too. You’ll see some familiar faces as you work your way through a cute story.

These could be pros or cons depending on what you like so this list is more “Things to note”:

  • This is the sort of game that you can make a spreadsheet for. I listed out who bought and sold what and how much profit you’ll get by doing buying/crafting/selling loops.

Lobster Empire

Lobster Empire

You know what….

I started this game as something to play to make time go faster in anticipation of my mail coming…. after two days of casual Lobster catching I found my self in Era 2 still waiting for my mail and then then era 3 then four and then trying to get that damn Albino and his gigantic aquatic boyfriend just to find that there are 3 more even harder to find dead lobsters……

After a week or so of streaming this in a random public discord I have been told this game is like: stardew, sims and maple story heck even rune scape but no this is Lobster Empire a game that I got for like 1$ in a humble bundle and a game that after a week of blood sweat and tears and more determination than the ending deserved I find myself glaring at a question mark but also happy that I got this far with the other 4.1% of gamers.

Nice game for Mobile but not PC worthy.

The whole logic of the game resembles a lot more a Mobile game then a PC game. You have to wait X time in order to get forward in the game, in the mean time you have nothing to do and there is no way around it. Its somewhat of a Mobile clicker game…

The base idea is good and would work if it would give the player actually something to do while you waiting insted you in my case is was in-game for 16hours, actuall playtime was maybe 3 hours the other 13 hours i basically was waiting for the game to prefors a task (getting to and back from the Sea).

Aquaculture Land: Fish Farming Simulation

Aquaculture Land: Fish Farming Simulation

I enjoy growing fish and filling orders. Looking forward to addition of plants because the noise levels for equipment is too high. Much equipment is just not useful at all because the noise level. I have never used the breeding. I attempted once, but did not understand it. I did not like the public fishing feature; just not as satisfying as filling orders given the time it takes to grow them. I use the AUTO HARVEST feature at level 4 and the employees do all the work. That said, the equipment breaks down way too much, and at times a filter, etc would remain in a non working state for so long I had to sell and replace the item. And that said, I have played this game about 100 hours and really enjoy growing fish and filling orders… PS Arwana are very big fish, but seem to weigh as much as any other fish when grown….

Real player with 312.8 hrs in game

I reccommend this game though I would say know what you’re getting into. This is a great little management game but it is early access and so it’s a little light on content. It can be slow/repetitive at times.

That being said, I get alot of enjoyment from Aquaculture Land. There is something really satisfying to the structure of the gameplay and I like how in depth the needs of the fish are. Out of my library this is the game I complete for a while, then find myself thinking of a few months later and jumping back on to play. I get just as much enjoyment out of it as my first playthrough. It’s very relaxing but there’s an element of planning, upgrading and designing your layouts, even though it has a chill feel to it. I dabble with alot of early access stuff and some of it can be a bit disappointing, or sometimes I feel I back a game too early for proper enjoyment personally, or sometimes the control scheme is way off what I expected and the controls don’t mesh well with me. But this one I really feel is a gem in the rough and I am very happy with it. I’m trying to think if I’ve encountered any bugs since I bought it but it’s surprisingly polished so it’s been quite a smooth experience for me personally. The main downside is it can be a bit grindy.
