Battle Engine Aquila

Battle Engine Aquila

It’s a genuinely fun and, dare I say, original game with lots of love and attention put into it. You play as a transforming, arguably overpowered super-mech that can lay waste to the battlefield on land and from the air. The battles are nicely simulated and have a good sense of scale (for a game that’s almost 2 decades old), and the over-the-top explosions and general mayhem is surprisingly good for stress relief.

The story campaign will be your main focus in the game. Here, individual missions are graded based on your performance, so there’s some form of replayability. The campaign is highlighted by several exhilarating and creative boss fights, and, though it’s nothing to write home about, there’s also something of a branching storyline.

This is a great game and I loved it when I was a kid. now that I’m an adult I was dying to replay this game as it held such good memories. The nostalgia was amazing and I love the game even more. the flying controls are some of the best I’ve seen in any game and the ground to air transition makes things so easy to keep up with the games fast pace later in the more difficult levels. I would love a remake with how big games get now, I can imagine how awesome the game would be with more levels, detail, more choices for weapons and online multiplayer. it would be so much fun. Alas, that’s unlikely to happen but I have hope.

Iron Front: Digital War Edition

Iron Front: Digital War Edition

Better then Arma but since the game spy shut down multiplayer is kinda hard to play now. Which was one of the best things on this game. Anyone that has a massive server and group still add me! The games singalplayer can be fun if you know how to make maps. Making a simple map is not that hard at all really. I do like it more then Arma. Deaths arnt so crapy looking. Just look up senarios online or use your imagenation to make a small simple map or a huge lag fest battle and have fun. This gmae should get more credit, but I will say it can be a time consumer when making a nice map. However its pays off most of the time.

Men of Valor

Men of Valor

OMG! I’d been hoping to see Men of Valor (MOV) released on Steam for years. I even wrote to Valve several years ago when they started to include classic games from years ago in the Steam store, asking for it to be included because IMO it has a superb set of multiplayer maps that cover large open maps, temples, Jungle, Sniping, indoor and outdoor CQB, Urban, Industrial, Hillside and Valley maps. It’s now 15 11 years old (as of 2019), so as you’d expect, some aspects are a little dated, but the actual maps are excellent and despite its age it still looks great. The original add-on map pack, that included an extra five multiplayer maps has been included with this Steam version expanding the original maps to 21 multiplayer maps (see below for a full list, plus a brief explanation of each map). Every major battle from the American involvement in the Vietnam war is represented in these maps. I do hope we see some servers coming online regularly. Sadly over the last several years, when I have found a server running you’d only see ta few players at any one time, so some of the bigger maps were never included in the map rotations and most of the ones that were felt empty and when joining, you spent more time looking for players to shoot, lol. There were exceptions such as Charlieville and the two temple ruins i.e. Cambodian and Jungle Ruins, all three being small CQB maps, with some sniping.

I actually remembered playing this game on the original Xbox back when it came out in late 2004 and as I am writing down this review, I still have my physical copy of the Xbox version right here in front of me. I absolutely love this game as I played the campaign over and over again that I lost count. You may be wondering: What’s so special about this game? Well, I am going to tell you.

Men of Valor is a 2004 PC (and original Xbox) first-person military shooter that takes place in the earlier stages of the Vietnam War (1965-1968). You play as Dean Shepard, an African-American soldier who took part in the conflict alongside with his squadmates: Greaser, Smooth, Zook, Hodges, and all other characters (Oh my goodness, I even remembered those characters from long ago). The game does not have a legitimate plot but what I love about this game is the presentation. Men of Valor provides a great historical perspective and experience, placing the player to know what is like in that conflict. The campaign is divided into four different areas of the war in 1965-1968: Da Nang Outskirts (rooting out the Vietcong from Da Nang, taking part in Operation Starlite), Iron Triangle (eliminate the Vietcong stronghold that resides in northern Saigon and being part of the joint US-ARVN Offensive), Khe Sanh Hill (push the North Vietnamese Army away from U.S hilltops firebases in 1967), and the Tet Offensive (terminate the North Vietnamese positions out of Hue and breaking the Siege of Khe Sanh).

PolySquad Review

First of all, I have to mention that the game looks really nice. The map and character designs are good, but they need to improve their weapon designs a bit. Since it is an early access game yet I think it can improve better than many games. Let me talk about the good aspects of gameplay:

- Level System (from 1 to 78): I think it is really important to have a level system in online games. Because the player will try to move himself to a higher level and will play more.

For the first time, I am happy that we have seen a quality game from a Turkish company. To explain the game briefly and briefly, the game can be called a mini battlefield. Although the game is really fun, it would be better if the tanks and helicopters with many players have a slightly higher health. I wish success to the game and the developers.

Ravenfield

Ravenfield

Ravenfield is a solo FPS which I’ve spent definitely more than 700 hours, at least another 100 hours, just on cracked and pirated versions airdropped in school hallways and played in lunchtimes and intervals. I bought the game to support the creator, and I’d reckon it’s paid off. Even if it’s vanilla selection is selective and small, the modding community is both active and easy to enter. I even did some myself, though I’m a rookie. If you’re looking for a multiplayer game, don’t bother. Just enjoy the solo game.

Rise of Liberty

Rise of Liberty

I recommend this to anyone who enjoys the following:

-Line/Formation Combat

-Bayonet Charges

-Using various commands and tactics to divert attention from the main attack (taking 30 troops around the side of a position and hitting it with constant suppresive fire to distract the defenders from the main assault)

-Calvary Charges and Tactics

-Unlockable weapons

-Battles which can easily be turned in anyones favor if tactics are used.

-Range guessing

-Synchronized firing and reloading

-Single Player FPS-Strategy games (like Ravenfield)

I think we can best praise this game by going through some of the quality, in-depth negative reviews it has gotten.

First up, we have “Wait for a MASSIVE update to the game, or a drop/sale price.” - 0.6 hours played.

Wow. I mean, what? Why? What is the game lacking that makes it so unplayable or not worth the price? The A.I is decent, the battles are epic, and the dev has shown a lot of passion towards improving things even more. I mean… it’s kinda misleading. I can assure whoever is reading this that Rise of Liberty is very much playable, it is very functional, and it has enough content to warrant its price.

Steel Fury Kharkov 1942

Steel Fury Kharkov 1942

The game’s geriatric in its graphics and some of its UI, but it still looks and plays enjoyably enough. I try not to negatively judge something because it’s old. I’m in my mid-50’s and I don’t think myself less because my body is aging. Actually quite the opposite, I’m a much better person now than I ever was. Steel Fury Kharkov 1942 is like that. The youthful flesh has wrinkled and aged but underneath is some solid gameplay.

I own IL-2 Tank Crew (I love IL-2:GB) and Steel Fury should be the example of how to make it more enjoyable. Tanks with infantry support, historical missions, sounds of war all around. SF feels like you’re in an important battle to fight in the “Meat Grinder” in and around Kharkov.

*** Negative Review…..BUT ***

Firstly, as it stands now, bought on Steam by people wishing to jump in and run the sim immediately by clicking play as soon as the game is installed, for modern PC’s - the answer is no, avoid like the plague, unless you are using a PC of similar vintage. The game was developed for an earlier generation of machines and you’ll encounter all of the usual issues :- Screen resolution locked to minimum setting, graphics card not recognised, not enough virtual memory and so on.

I am SO glad to see you guys! - Jospeh Hartsock, Brothers In Arms Road To Hill 30

THE GOOD

Authentic environments range from visually stunning (In the sense of scope) to downright ugly. Some of the character animations are a bit awkward, and one particular glitch sent a German rifleman across the map where he promptly caught himself on barbed wire and ruined the mood. The textures could be worse, but that’s like saying that Duke Nukem Flopped could’ve been more hyped. For 2005, graphically speaking, it’s mediocre. Not great, not terrible, not a benchmark for games and not something you’ll want to recycle for toilet paper. While being failry realistic, it suffers from having people die very quickly, which can be frustrating when you need that person for a particular job, as shown perfectly by Objective XYZ. The multiplayer has two players who each command two teams to try and eliminate the other team. While not a straight up shooter, it would be nice to see some other objectives rather than just kill everyone else. This is BiA, not Quake.
