Train Sim World® 2

Train Sim World® 2

This game a fantastic simulator with obviously it’s drawbacks as with all games.

The aspects of the game that I enjoy are the ability to operate trains, being able to change services and gain experience.

Pros:

1. 24 hour timetable meaning that there are always services to operate no matter what time of the day

2. Performance improvements from the previous game

3. Decent tutorials to get you started (Useful for the more complicated locomotives).

4. After finishing a service there’s usually plenty of more services to operate which makes sustains the enjoyment for longer

This simulation is brilliant. I bought both TS2022 and TSW2 to compare, and find myself spending all my time in TSW2. Why? In TS2022 you ARE the train; in TSW2 you’re an Engineer driving a train - so you can walk around on the train, move to different locos on foot, and explore the world. The graphics are great, sounds very good, and this game is challenging.

While an in-game tutorial is included (I recommend you play through all of it, in sequence), you will need to check out various manuals on the Dovetail forum and elsewhere for tips/tricks. You WILL get stuck - maybe on a steep gradient. And you’ll probably lose control of a train going downhill. And, at times, a loco will simply stall, and you’ll lose power and need to go manually restart a loco.

Train Station Renovation

Train Station Renovation

You know, I really wanted to like this game. I mean, I did like it, but I really wanted to like it too. This game has two of my favorite things: hanging out in empty train stations, and managing clean spaces. The choice on whether or not to purchase this game was an easy one for me.

The game has you play the role of some person who is contracted out to clean and renovate multiple train stations. I don’t know if the train stations are abandoned, or if they’re just shut down temporarily, but that’s immaterial to anything in the game. It’s filthy and maybe broken, and then you show up. When you’re done, it looks nearly spotless.

I’m an avid player of House Flipper. And Train Station Renovation….Wow! I’ve played all the way through and love it. There was lots to do. I found some stations took over an hour to complete. It’s fun and relaxing. I enjoyed this game. I recommend it.

You clean up train stations. You start out small and get bigger as you go. You clean up trash, make repairs, place items to complete missions. As you progress through a mission your earn stars (up to 5) along with bonus money. You earn points you can spend to upgrade you tools, which is done in the office. A bonus: you get to name you own renovation business. There is an achievement system. I found that I got many of these just by playing through the game. I have found I will need another play through to get them all.

I found this on a trainsim forum where it was getting almost joke reviews and unenthusiastic replies..

I brought it.. not once do I regret it.. im someone whos a train enthusiast who has many train sims. I used to commute to work for hours each day and enjoy it.. covid has taken this away from me.. I dare say this sim has become like a loveletter to days of the past personally for me..

its not all about the past though, This looks good, the future ideas look good.. I ask anyone with an interest in trains to consider this - A sim where you can travel, relax on a train.. while having the freedom to move around.. with the upcoming features being hunger system, vending machines and no doubt alot of good things happening in the future

I really enjoyed the game so far, even tho it’s only early access. The train models and stations look very nice (every station looks very close to it’s real couterpart). Tho in some places, texture quality could be better (for example written text on information boards in stations). Also AI sometimes doesn’t make sense, for example in passenger mode I can wait for 15 minutes with no train arriving. Sometimes it’s also very hard to keep schedule (it’s too tight in my opinion, but good thing is you can change it by yourself). The signalling system works quite good in my opinion, tho already an update has been announce which will make it even better probably. The physics of the trains seem quite realistic, tho breaks seem to be very weak, even on emergency break application. But maybe that’s normal for Moscow’s subway trains.

Revised Review, Aug 29, 2021:

To put it briefly…

Those who have enjoyed the World of Subways games will most likely enjoy Metro Simulator as well but beware of AI traffic, it can mess up your ride!

From graphics to presentation to game depth, there’s nothing that really stands out, but at its core it’s a solid but limited Metro simulator with believable physics, well-designed stations, and passengers who get on, sit down, and get off at their stations.

However, you should be able to overlook some minor issues like passengers slightly clipping through objects or the inconsistent texture quality; and the switch arrows floating in the tunnels are somewhat immersion-breaking.

I imagine the devs are starting to get tired of seeing reviews like this one, but I don’t have a VR set and I saw this game on youtube and it piqued my interest and I would see how it worked with mouse and keyboard. I must say, even for an early access game I have been VERY pleasantly surprised. Despite being primarily for VR the controls are pretty intuitive for mouse and keyboard and there are plenty of user friendly hotkeys. I could see a few more functions that might be made easier if they added a few more hotkeys, but by no means is this game difficult to pick up and play with a mouse/keyboard. I absolutely love this game already. Even when you’re not in VR the immersion is pretty good and you really feel like you’re inside the cab of these big locomotives. Everything feels larger and more lifelike than other train simulations. Your instructions for your controls are actual booklets you hold in front of your face instead of just on a controls screen, adding to the realism. It may not necessarily be as accurate to life as other simulations, but it feels more real. When your’re on the ground and the locomotive towers over you, you feel like you’re actually standing next to this giant machine. I love how you have random jobs to choose at every station to complete (based on an actual industry chain) for a cash reward rather than preset scenarios to replay over and over again. I love how the game rewards you the more you play with items and upgrades you can buy with in game cash instead of soaking up your irl cash like a certain ahem other simulation. All that being said, as great as it is to play with mouse/keyboard I can definitely imagine this being even better with VR. I imagine the immersion in VR would be 1000 times better.

After reading someone’s reaction to the game saying it felt to him as if he were driving a real train, i thought i would write a review as a real life passenger trains driver in Europe.

To make it short: it does. Even though you can’t physically feel it, the game does a great job simulating the reactions of the train. For example when you start accelerating, you can see the locomotive speeding up a little but then being suddenly slowed down a bit by each wagon it starts pulling as the chain couplers become fully extended. Also, as the name suggests, if you are not careful you WILL derail. You will usually find yourself driving at about 40Km/h but the richness of the scenery and the “small country line” aspect of the network make it feel quite fast. In the plains you can sometimes reach 80Km/h if you want but you will enjoy taking your time as the view is always beautiful. In the mountains, don’t be ashamed to “only go 20”: the curves become tighter as you climb and if you look down you’ll probably even want to slow down to 10 (i have) ;)

Train Life: A Railway Simulator

Train Life: A Railway Simulator

Train games are not exactly a highly competitive market so most are downright garbage. Train Life is not one of my favorites for good reason. A couple of the games I prefer are as follows with the first being a bit complicated to learn as it’s Korean and you need to make notes about what certain things are and how to do things. The second is designed for multiplayer, but, I and many others play solo. The first is Hmmsim Metro. The second is RAILROADS Online! Check those for better games.

A large update came out. I have made a couple deliveries in Germany so far and glitches have been much better. Animals don’t have faces glues to tracks. I’ll keep editing this as I play more and if it deserves it will change to voting up.

OK OK… First of all let me say I rated this title as “recommend” only because I think it has huge potential and, let’s face it… if $15 bucks is a deal breaker you’re in the wrong hobby. I usually don’t pay for something I haven’t gotten (my lesson was paying a landscaper for a whole job he was to do on a Friday and by Monday morning I discovered that he closed his doors and skipped town with my money) but I’m gonna make an exception in this case. For two reasons… first - It’s worth the $15 as is! Second - it allows the devs to buy groceries on their way home tonight and not starve before they finish the game.

TLDR;

Trainslation is a very unique game, and if you have 20 minutes of time, I urge everyone to go and play it. But more importantly I definitely recommend watching the making of video after you finish the game, especially if you have an interest in the world of game development or just want to know how much effort and design even smaller games like this take to create.

The making off video didn’t only explain the video game process in a simple and clear way so that anyone can understand it. It also did so in a beautifully illustrated way with in depth explanation of the thought process behind the game and it’s systems.

Confusing at first until you get it.

Got the “Good Ending” on my 1st playthrough.

I say give this a go and strongly recommend watching the Making of video that’s unlocked after beating it. Really amazing video.

(Glad you did not take inspiration from the NY Subway trains, as the NY subway is evil when you want to get to your destination.)

This is a genuine review from someone who actually works in the rolling stock industry.

Dovetail, please read this. I really want to make this game great.

So, conclusion first.

Does this game have loads of potential?

YES!

With the diverse functionality of its engine, it is highly improbable that the game would ever fail.

! Hell I am more than happy to implement this simulator into our driver training simulation cabins, the graphics and details of those blasphemous atrocities needs to be updated fast.

Train Sim World. A new sim by a company with a complacent attitude despite the chance of a clean slate being presented to them. TSW is a new modern train sim and calling it a sim is stretching it ALOT at this time for those with a interest in the railway using the UE4 to bring an immersive experience of not only driving trains but to ride as a passenger, walk around the environment to a degree or even fulfil you’re inner hobo and hang onto a freight as it goes on it’s way in perfectly clear weather to blizzards at midnight with lovely graphics and visuals.
