A few non-exclusive store bought assets here and there, but overall is a lot of fun! Loads of levels, secrets and enemy types. All weapons are fun to use and ammo tends to be quite plentiful.

V.R.G.

V.R.G.

V.R.G. feels like a game where someone decided they wanted to put all of their idea into one game. That isn’t a bad thing for this game however as what’s there is pretty fun. It’s just a blast running around shooting random wizards without much thought, just go crazy with all of it’s mechanic and be creative. What’s in the game right now is pretty short but it isn’t a bad thing however as both of the episodes that are offered currently are very replayable. I would definitely recommend playing this game if you want a parkour boomer shooter to be played in short-bursts if you feel like it.

This is one of the most fun, most promising games I’ve played in a while. The movement and mechanics of this game are nothing short of exceptional, and If the developer gets the game’s bugs knocked out and increases the amount of content, this could really be something special. Lot of potential here, I’m excited to follow the rest of this game’s development.

Edit:

The second group of levels are significantly more difficult than the first. Not too difficult, but way more challenging than the first chapter.

DEATHLOOP

DEATHLOOP

I’m saying this as a big Arcane fan - buy this game. But buy it on sale.

It got all the fun gameplay, awesome level design, interesting characters and decent story as any other of their games, and this definitely makes it worth playing.

BUT. At the same time, it’s a deeply flawed game.

Game has only four locations, and while they are relatively big with a lot to explore, and can be visited at different times of day, going there time and time again starts being repetitive quite soon.

For some reason there are no difficulty settings, and it was such an awesome idea in Dishonored 2, with different settings for combat and stealth. Here, for example, stealth often feels too easy after D2’s highest setting, but you can’t change anything.

I really don’t want to hate this game, but I do.

Warning for “feature” spoilers, but I’ll avoid story spoilers.

Deathloop is just such a prima donna. The designers' vision was more important than making it fun to play, and it shows.

You can’t save the game. Ever. If you quit mid-play (or suffer a crash) the game forces you to restart at the beginning of the stage you are on, with the loadout you previously selected. If you want to stage select or change your gear you have to leave the level and allow time to advance.

Receiver 2

Receiver 2

I recommend this game, albeit it has some issues. I’ll elaborate them further when appropriate.

First of all, I haven’t finished the game yet. I’m currently at level 3 “sleepwalker”. Which is due to how many times had to re-level up. I’ll come to this later.

This game isn’t made for your comfort:

While I say that, it isn’t a bad thing. It’s clear that devs made it this way to relay some points. But as you learn to play this game it might lead to some frustration, I just wanted to put that out there.

I played the original Receiver a while back and wrote a review of it, recommending it to gun aficionados who were looking for a game focused on realistic guns rather than gamey guns. That point stands firm in the sequel. If you want to adjust for failure to eject and double feed malfunctions after manually loading your magazine and chambering a round, you’ll love Receiver 2.

–———————————————————

Receiver 2 claims to simulate every moving part in the gun. They certainly did get them all in the model. Every gun is designed to match manufacturer specifications, flaws included. Take a fall with a Colt Single Action Army and you risk it firing if the hammer wasn’t at half-c0 ck. (I love censorship).

Zombaliens

Zombaliens

It’s actually a really fun mashup of immersive sim and retro shooter ideas. While it’s not the same as Cruelty Squad, it definitely has some similar DNA and if you enjoyed that game you’ll feel pretty at home with this similar brand of off the wall indie jank. I went in expecting something goofy and extremely unpolished but was surprised that it plays pretty well and actually has some exciting firefights so far. I particularly enjoyed one part where you’re exchanging shots with enemies between two opposite sides of a skyscraper as windows and props shatter around you. Only meaningful complaints I have so far are that hitscanners can be a bit over aggressive and it’s almost impossible to avoid damage from certain enemies.

I’m not finished playing the game. Despite that, I wanted to chip in with a review.

Despite the rough cartoonish appearances, Zombaliens is surprisingly fun. The game tasks you in most levels with finding humans who are stuck in zombie cocoons and freeing them (with the occasional boss fight to break it up). Navigating the levels can be a treat due to the immersive sim interactivity elements as well as the plethora of routes provided. You can sneak throughout levels, shooting lights, and moving yourself to an ideal spot to catch enemies by surprise or avoid them entirely. Some routes are only available if you have certain weapons which provides some fun returning to levels. Additionally, it’s fun to just try and navigate as quickly as you can throughout a level and try to improve on previous times.

What is the game?

Andromeda One Zombies is a very short game where you fight through zombies.

Gameplay:

The gameplay itself is fun but not unique in any way since it comes with the engine the game is made on.

Graphics:

The graphics are outdated but with the right world building and imagination it can still be enjoyable to look at.

Story:

There is none except the scenario presented in the description.

Problems:

The game is just too basic and has nothing interesting going on. No bugs I guess?

Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold

Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold

An Excellect Apogee Software Title since my Childhood. Collect Weapons, Unlock Secert Areas and take down Dr. Goldfire’s Henchmen but NOT any of the Friendly Bio-Techs who will help you out as you go through 6 Episodes, 9 Floors & 2 Secret Floors on each Episodes making the total of 66 Levels to play through. If you’re a Deathmatch Champion on DOOM, Quake, UT or any other FPS Game, DO NOT play on the hardest Difficulty Setting otherwise you won’t last a minute.

As for the storyline, its pretty good. The Manual contains a comic that’s contains a storyline that’s drawn well & detailed. In the Distant Future, Human Colonies have expanded across the Solar System. However, on the S.T.A.R Institute Colony, it’s fallen under a Major Lockdown as Dr. Goldfire has taken over the Human Colony & has begun conducting Human Genetic Mutation Experments to Unleash upon the Earth, all in Science’s name. As British Intelligence’s Agent Blake Stone, travel to the Human Colony, rescue his Mom & Sister, and Stop Goldfire’s Plans from Dominating the Earth along with his Genetic Experments.

_Notes:

  • This guide provides a link to the BStone source port, which allows for higher resolution, widescreen support while preserving aspect ratio, increased texture resolution, better controls, and 3D audio support. Contrary to what’s written in the guide, the easiest way to install the source port is to extract the zip to your install directory and rename bstone.exe to dosbox.exe, which will allow you to run the game normally through Steam._
