Bone Mayhem

Bone Mayhem

It’s fairly rare that I don’t recommend a game, but I can’t really say I recommend this one - FOR NOW. I know this is early access, but I’m not sure it was ready for play testing yet. It has a ton of promise and seems like it has some good bones, but the ammo is incredibly limited, it’s too easy to get cornered, there’s no real explanation of the game or mechanics, and it’s just sort of… confusing? I feel rather silly saying this, but I wanted to like it so much because the style and look is kinda adorable! But it was just too little explanation and to little real gameplay for me. That said, I do think that it’s got the right idea - it’s just not there yet. It will be. It just needs more time. Put some flesh on those bones and let us come back!

Ammo is EXTREMELY limited.

The enemies march in lockstep at the player.

The maps are cool but basically have zero effect on the combat.

Definitely not a fan.

Boomerang X

Boomerang X

Boomerang X is an insanely fast paced fling and zing game.

I see a lot of people leaving reviews saying that they are upset with the fact the base game takes only 2 hours to beat.

What they always fail to mention is that those 2 hours are packed to the brim with just about all the content you need. The arguably short playtime required means the game will never feel dull and every 10 minutes or so you will be introduce with a new environment, possibly new ability, and more knowledge on how to beat the next level. It’s addicting to go through the motions of progressing in this game which is why I think it’s so appealing to speedrunning.

$20 for such a short game is fairly steep (1-3 hours with New Game+), so I can only recommend this game to anyone interested in speed running and gyro. I’d honestly put this game at $5 - $10 max regardless of it being a speed run game. The only reason I paid the full $20 was because of Flick Stick.

An issue I’ve seen brought up is that Flux (slow motion) is too strong. You can use it every time you throw the boomerang. This feels like it was balanced for New Game+ as enemy density basically forces you to constantly use it. Since there is a super meter in the game (Comet Mode), I think there is an obvious solution. Make it so taking out enemies not only fills Comet Mode but using Flux will also drain it. Since the game was made for speed running though, I don’t think any changes will be made to Flux.

ETERNAL BLOOD

This game is amazing. I love that it is an real time aim trainer and movement simulator. This has helped my movement and aim in so many FPS games. I have nothing negative to say about it.

The ONLY thing I would like to see is maybe, Ice and Electric abilities, and maybe 3 skills trees. one for each type of ability, other than that. Phenomenal :)

Eternal Blood is intense fast-paced shooter, wich reminds me heavily of Serious Sam.

The further you progress, the harder it gets to survive because of enormous amounts of enemies on the screen.

To survive the horde, you should collect souls that drop from dead enemies and “towers” that spawn them.

(this is your only one reliable way of healing)

At a time of writing this there is only 3 ways of attack:

Fireball at M1

Charged Fireball with splash damage at M2

And to prevent you from overwhelming ammounts of enemies there is magic splash around your character on middle mouse button

Maybe my judgement is affected by playing too many terrible raycast engine maker games lately, but I don’t think this game deserves all the flack it’s getting in the reviews section here. Yes, it has problems, but for the price (especially on sale) it’s a decent classic Quake-wannabe FPS shooter.

The Good:

  • classic Quake-style gameplay (though not nearly as good as Quake itself obviously)

  • no ammo cap for any of the guns, unless it’s 999 or something which I’ve never reached

  • no weapon reloading, though some guns have recoil that gets worse the longer you hold down the fire button which is fine

Gemini: Binary Conflict

Gemini: Binary Conflict

Welcome to Gemini! A binary planet system orbiting a red dwarf host star. You join us in the midst of a skirmish between the inhabitants of two worlds who are on the brink of all out war.

The Avians (an enlightened bird-like species) occupy the original homeworld, with their distant cousins, the Trivexians (an aggressive reptile species) inhabiting its twin. Both planets originally had temperate climates with resources to spare, and while the Avians had the foresight to maintain and protect their biosphere, the Trivexians were careless and greedy, reducing their world to an arid, almost lifeless desert.

As resources diminished, the Trivexians became envious of their Avian cousin’s world, with its tantalising oceans and luscious purple vegetation. Following a number of incursions to take back what they believed was rightfully theirs, the fighting ensued. Join the battle, pick a side, fight for a cause, and destroy the enemy.

‘Gemini: Binary Conflict’ is a multiplayer, class based, first person shooter set in an exotic environment with a bold visual style. In-game you will find some unconventional weaponry, equipment, armour, class roles and modes. The game aims to provide a subtle mixture of mechanics both familiar and unusual to create a unique and engaging gameplay experience.

Features:

  • Player class system, with an array of unusual weaponry and abilities, making each class truly unique.

  • A variety of PvP gamemodes up to 16 players, ranging from Free-for-all to our flagship mode, ‘Warpath’; push enemy lines aided by an army of AI droids, deploy support structures and strategise with your team to take down and capture enemy bases.

  • Co-op gamemode ‘Holdout’; up to 5 players stranded in enemy territory survive increasingly difficult waves of hostiles and boss encounters, whilst activating defences and power-ups to aid the completion of the objective: successfully repair the base.

  • XP / Unlock system, allowing players to level up their classes, unlock armour cosmetics and weapon / equipment sidegrades as they progress in-game.

  • Player customisation system, allowing expressive variety in-game. Players can choose any colour for armour and weapons, as well as individually swap armour pieces acquired in class progression.

  • Armour destruction system. Armour is not only customisable, but it actually protects individual parts of your body, both functionally and visually destructible, allowing for an extra layer of depth in combat.

  • An array of maps featuring visually bold and unique environments.

  • Fully fledged bot support. Bots capable of competing alongside you as if they were real players, taking objectives, using equipment, customising themselves, and taking advantage of their individual class strengths, on any gamemode.

When i first started DRP, i was a bit disappointed : i was expecting epic battles against mega robots, and all i was getting was robots seemingly made of cardboard (because they were dying in 15s), or score/checkpoints chasing arenas. Moreover, the controls felt too floaty, especially when on the ground.

But I trust Dejobaan, who have yet to disappoint me with a game. So i kept at it, and boy am i glad i did. What seemed like a small game with 15-20 levels, is actually chock full of robots and the difficulty rises slowly but surely. Soon, i was getting into tense fights with robots that seemingly wouldn’t die despite the huge firepower i was throwing at them.

I really love this game. Now, to be totally fair, I did get this game for free, a good friend of mine gave it to me. I don’t know if I would feel differently if I had paid for it, but as it stands, I really like it.

Stuff I like:

  • I like the core gameplay. It’s well made and simplistic. You only get one gun, you can get temporary upgrades so you don’t have to switch, and the jetpack thing is awesome. The controls are tight, movement is accessible, and level and enemy designs are interesting and easy to understand
