EX LIFE

EX LIFE

I got to act 3, I did keep running on the stairs. I think it basically killed my chance at finishing the act which could both be a good thing or a bad thing? As far as I know I had to

! Activate an emotional lock? but it was never clear to me how to progress towards that objective (or even if that was the objective?). Perhaps that’s because I didn’t read enough of the text in game (i.e. books in the library), I genuinely don’t know.

I also don’t understand Portuguese and used subtitles. There were some mistakes I noticed with the subtitles such as typos. As well as this certain scenes didn’t show any subtitles at all. Like when (I assume) everything in the house was explained - water, food, etc. As well as at the end of scenes.

Really like the idea of this game so bought it. was confused before the game even started as nothing was in English, but thought fine (Cant always be in English when you first put a game on now days), but then there was no clear objective. Controls are clunky and AI voice is not English even when Subtitles are. Also subtitles are wrong and you have to work out what they mean for yourself. This was my first escape room game and was very disappointed. Also would really like it to be fully control supported but now i’m just being picky.

Confusing, bewildering, nonsensical and not particularly scary. Save your money.

Pretty good game. It was for sure weird but was interesting and gave some good scares. I only wish it gave more direction on what to do cause if you are stuck on something there are no hints or anything to help you out. Overall for the price I would say it’s worth checking out. If you want to see some game play you can watch my play through below.

The game is only a couple of hours long and half of that is very slow dialog. There was no option for remapping hotkeys and the invert mouse didn’t work for me. Parts of it were fun, but there was no point to it as there is no leveling or upgrades. Not worth anywhere near $20.

Couldn’t pass the second level cause I was unable to target the pillow and book on the ground to place them in the right spots. Targeting was off center and ruined the gameplay for me.

Depanneur Nocturne

Depanneur Nocturne

A lighthearted exploration game where you are browsing a store for a perfect gift, anywhere from 15 to 60 minutes depending on how many achievements you want to hit; however, I want to point out that most of the secrets in this game add a lot to the experience. There are a few hidden areas that you could miss if you decide to end the game prematurely, so I would encourage everyone to fully explore it - pretty much entire game is optional so it’s up to you when you want to finish. It has a little bit of replay value because there are some gifts that you can’t obtain during the same playthrough, but as far as I can tell they just change a few lines of dialogue at the end. Despite the lack of content, I thought it was a very worthwhile experience with enjoyable narrative and beautiful art style, especially all of that world-building artwork on the walls.

Late evening. A street closed off at either end by roadworks. You need to buy a gift but only one shop is still open.

Inside, you’re greeted by a lizard-like and rather stern shopkeeper, Eugenie. She says she’s teasing, but you’re not sure if she means it. It’s under her watchful gaze, and the ever-glaring eye of a CCTV camera that tracks your every move, you begin to browse the shelves.

You quickly realise there isn’t much to browse. The shelves are well-stocked, yes, but there are only a few items to click on. Still, these items provoke your curiosity. Pleasant music plays while you browse, courtesy of a radio which you’re free to retune. There are strange posters on the wall and even complimentary coffee… though my clumsy efforts at making it elicited laughter from me and a gentle rebuke from Eugénie.

Eos

This was a great game. It was also a short game, but it’s worth it. I finished it after only 56 minutes of gameplay, but I can’t really complain as the game was 100% free.

The story is unique and bitter-sweet, the art style is stunning yet simplistic, and the puzzles are entertaining. The puzzles remind me of portal, with the cube and button format, but the mechanic with the day/night gates is fairly unique. The puzzles are on the easier side of things, so it’s good for a quiet evening when your kind of tired.

This is a very basic game designed by students from Digipen Institute of Technology Singapore. Took me under 30 mins, most people completed it in half that time….but it is free!

An enchanting story about a little girl holding a mysterious medallion trying to fulfil her late mother’s dying wish. A voice greets her and as she embarks on her short journey, she learns more about her parents and why she is there. The owner of the voice wants to make sure she is who she really is and tests her with minor trials.

Eximius: Seize the Frontline

Eximius: Seize the Frontline

In late 2017 I came across a RTS-FPS hybrid genre, it has been sometime since an actual development of a video game in this genre and pretty rare too. I soon found out who the team behind who design and craft out this game. I wanted to helped out and so I did as a volunteer community testers in the early days of EXIMIUS.

I loved C&C Renegade and this game was like the missing puzzle in C&C Renegade where it was suppose to have RTS-FPS hybrid. It was heavily inspired by Battlezone II and the cancelled video game called “Tiberium”. I myself was also a modder , knows that making a video game or a mod is require a lot of resource & manpower. With constant Q&A and R&D is not easy

Explaining the game

Eximius is an asymmetrical 5v5 team-oriented game that combines both the FPS and RTS genres. Unlike most hybrid games that are simply either an FPS with RTS elements or visa versa, Eximius implements both genres equally and in their entirety.

The RTS side of the game implements all of the features of a traditional RTS game like base building, training units, researching upgrades, using unit and commander based abilities along with map and resource control. There are 3 resource types the commander utilises: Credits, Energy and Supplies. Credits are your standard general purpose currency, they’re used for most things and can only be gained through resource nodes on the map. Energy is the more advanced resource used for upgrades and higher tier units, this can be obtained through resource nodes and commander built power plants. Credits are needed for the use of abilities and some unit upgrades, they can only be obtained through resource nodes. Much like Company of Heroes you can reinforce resource points by setting up, depending on faction, an armoury/mule near the point, this will increase the resource income of that node and make it so the node cannot be captured while the armoury/mule is reinforcing it. Both factions within the game are divided into 3 sub-factions similar to the likes of C&C3 and C&C Generals: Zero Hour. Each sub-faction has unique abilities, units, unit variants and research which allows for a considerable amount of options for the commander. These options are only further expanded by the unique interactions between each unit/ability and the players on the ground.
