Choose your avatar, armor and weapon. Train your skills and unlock the moves.

Unicorns on Unicycles

Unicorns on Unicycles

Received this game for free, and I’ve played it since the beta days. The character designs are quirky and level designs vary a lot. Different maps contain different elements that impacts each round differently (see-saw or underwater map) that encourages player to experiment on their tactics/play styles.

It has sufficient depth despite the straight forward gameplay. Playing against other players/friend is where the main fun lies (despite my losing streak). Some maps are a lot more entertaining and interesting than others. This applies to certain characters as well. The single-player story is pretty simple as well. All in all a simple, fun, & entertaining game.

Blood Knot

Blood Knot

I wish I could recommend that. The story seems nice enough and the dialogue is decent, but unfortunately I can’t give it a thumbs up simply for the fact that the UI is broken. Both the battle and the menu ones.

Sometimes when I’m in battle, the UI will bug out making the items names disappear and the HP and damage counters will not rise or fall. That way I can’t know what items I have (unless looking through its descriptions) and I can’t know how much damage I’m doing to an enemy or how much they’re doing to me.

Them’s Fightin' Herds

Them’s Fightin' Herds

This game will forever mean something special to me, even if I’ve had to shelve it and move on as a result of my own obsessions with victory/how I’m perceived by others. It’s almost impossible to be fully objective after everything that’s happened since I started following it closely circa late 2011, but I’ll try…and I’ll keep it to a bulleted list for brevity.

PROS:

  • 6 (now 7, likely 8 at some point in the future) extremely-well-fleshed-out characters who are all viable at every skill level, and wholly unique in their movement/offensive capabilities. A small tier spread in 1.0 was noticable, but 2.0 appears to have narrowed the gaps in viability, further evening the odds across the cast.

The most fun fighting game I’ve played up to this point. While the game is still in early access, it’s got enough content for those mostly interested in the fighting game aspect of it.

Pros:

  • Beginner-friendly, if you’re newer to fighting games. There’s 3 main attack buttons and a fourth “Magic” button, which is used for each character’s unique attack system. Learning to combo is as easy as A-B-C (The main buttons are literally named A, B, and C), with no crazy specific timing for a lot of basic combos. It also has a tutorial that teaches players just about every mechanic they need to know about, from basic blocking to things like framedata.

2021 EDIT:

So seeing as I’ve put a good 56 hours into this game now, figured i’d “update” my review.

Long story short:

I really can’t describe how impressed I am with the Dev, and both the incredible pace & progress he’s managed to single handedly accomplish (between two games no-less).

I swear within a month he’s been able to rework physics entirely (with incredible responsiveness to community feedback, beta updates almost DAILY), add MOD SUPPORT (yus), reworked entire weapon colliders and physics, added procedural dungeons, in-game MAGIC system (with voice recog)… the list is endless.

The developer (yes one guy) did a great job at bringing this sandbox to VR, fulfilling our fantasies of medieval mayhem. While it’s still a little rough around the edges, there’s much potential to be had.

Pros:

1. Combat is fun, great variety of weapons for you to chop, stab, maim, crush, pulverize, shoot, impale, FORCE PUSH (!?! theres a lightsaber in the game for lols), thor hammer smash, punch to death with.

2. When you land a stab or chop at an enemy, it feels satisfying as the enemy attempts to dodge/parry/block so you feel like your’e fighting something that fights back….a little.
