DRAGON BALL XENOVERSE 2

A game I have over 700 hours in, made youtube content for and have semi retired from touching now. What do I think of it? It’s all over the place frankly. Some things it does right and others it does awfully, but ultimately it’s the brand name and the concept that keeps it going with players even now.

It’s another 3d arena anime fighter on the surface, but also an action rpg in disguise, It’s one of the few anime properties in the world which is so well known that some don’t even see it even as anime anymore, that’s how normalised it is.

I’m writing this review after the latest DLC that was released. Legendary Pack 2, granting us quite a few new characters, some awesome Skills, and more. The story isn’t bad and from the cliffhanger, it’s not quite done yet… which I’m not sure if it’s distressing or comforting. I love this game, probably more than any other Dragon Ball game that I’ve played. I don’t do PvP for my own personal reasons, but the PvE with PQ’s, the main story, the side stories. It’s all so much fun. But one thing I will say, is maybe it’s time to put the old girl to sleep.

March 7th: The review has been updated. Check the bottom of the review for more details

Have beaten the game a few days ago. Now, if you are looking for a review with some details, and if you are still not sure whether you should buy this game or not, then read on.

First, many people seem to be talking about the whole connection issues, and yes, it appears you need to be connected to the Xenoverse server in order to even play offline. But do you get disconnected so often that, it is almost unplayable? Not really. Most of the time, the offline mode works without any issues. But usually the online mode is off, and you most likely will end up seeing the message stating that the Xenoverse online is currently off. But yes, this game basically requires you to level up and all anyway (Unfortunately I have not done the online mode yet, so I might add some more to this review when I get my hands on it), so in the end, you should have no problem playing the game, at least the offline mode. And I will explain why the game is made like an MMORPG later in the review.

TLDR: The biggest problem with the game right now is the servers. There are some drawbacks in the gameplay department but the pros outweigh the cons. If you’re a fan of the Dragonball series and the world that Akira Toriyama has created then this game is a must buy. If you don’t really care for Dragonball but are interested in the gameplay it is a solid game but packed with fan service that will probably go over your head. You will also probably be less forgiving of its flaws and may not get enough enjoyment out of the story and the Dragonball world to offset them. Character customization is definatley the high point of the game, everything from looks to stats to skills is up to the player.

DO NOT BUY if wanting matchmade PVP.

The last paid DLC for this game came out Feb 1, 2021. The online servers for this game will be shutting down in Aug of 2022. Honestly the life of this game makes it feel like a cash-grab/scam, but it’s published by BANDAI NAMCO so that’s just par for the course. As of now there is speculation that you’ll be able to direct connect to friends but online matchmaking will no longer work August 2022.

The game itself is a 6/10 fighting game without the usual depth and complexity that you find in fighting games. The roster has a lot of fan favorites and will probably check a few boxes for your characters of choice. The Story line is pretty boring and has some long unskippable cutscenes.

ONE PUNCH MAN: A HERO NOBODY KNOWS

ONE PUNCH MAN: A HERO NOBODY KNOWS

Let me get this out of the way: One Punch Man: A Hero Nobody Knows is not a great game. It has more than its share of issues, including:

  • Clunky and awkward controls, with most moves having a delay.

  • Unbalanced gameplay.

  • Tons of loading screens that are even worse on modern systems than older systems.

  • Pace-killing elements like tons of e-mails, tutorial screens, and redundant pop-up messages.

  • Random battle elements (like meteor showers) that are more annoying than fun.

  • Getting up from being knocked down VERY slowly.

I 100% completed this game in 2020 minutes in one sitting just to write this review and I can say this without a doubt.

One Punch Man a hero Nobody wanted is a game that nobody should own as it currently is. The game is plagued with terrible design decisions and can be extremely infuriating at the later stages.

Before I really get into the problems with it, I just want to state I honestly do not hate this game as much as most people do and so, if you do like this game please take this review with a punch of salt.

SUPERHERO-X [Alpha Edition]

SUPERHERO-X [Alpha Edition]

This is a very unique fighting game, combining high-octane Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon style acrobatics with MCU-style superhero powers and mixing them together with a very well designed create-a-fighter core gameplay mechanic.

There are no pre-designed characters in this game, you create all of them yourself, that is what sets this game out from all the other fighting games.

You want to create a superhero that can summon huge tornadoes that pickup your opponent and send them flying? Or maybe you would prefer to create a lightsaber-wielding Sith Lord type of character? Perhaps you want to create an evil Captain America-like character that shoots lasers out of his eyes like Superman? Well in this game you can do all of that!

Real player with 5.5 hrs in game

Don’t get me wrong… this game has the potential to be good in the right hands but it’s a half ***ed made game. The graphics are okay, the combat is simple with little effort into actual combo’s. I could literally get my opponent in a nonstop juggle combo until I win. You have to play to unlock most of the costumes to even create your character and even then, it’s not enough to keep playing after unlocking everything in 75 minutes of boring loading screens with the same voice commenting the same thing… over and over and over.

Combat Core

Combat Core

A great 3d arena brawler, Combat Core has the “pick up and play” accessibility of a party game while providing room for a lot of technical depth once you understand how the various mechanics work. Fights involve 2-4 players and uses the character stock system similar to Super Smash Bros..

Basic combat involves utilizing weapons, grabs, quick combo strings and core attacks to deal damage to your opponent; as a party game this is enough to ensure a good time if you just want to beat down your friends in a few matches. However, once you understand how the parry and defensive roll mechanics work the technical game opens up considerably.

Real player with 48.3 hrs in game

Combat core is an excellent arena brawler. I highly recommend this game if you want something fun, casual, and different than your traditional fighting games.

The gameplay is very solid. There are no special inputs you have to execute to perform specific attacks, it’s as easy as pressing one button, or you can mix it up with two different buttons. There are a handful of fighters that you can choose from at the moment, they all have their own unique moveset and look.

Before every round you can select a “core”. These grant you special abilities that you can use, such as laser beams, super uppercuts, super piledriver, charged rush, etc… These cost energy points to use during battle.

To be honest when I first saw this game I ignored it but After a while when I was looking for FTP games I found this again and decided to give it a try with some of my friends and boy did I have a blast I’ve been playing it for a while now and this game is a great way to just sit back and enjoy a fighting game rather than having to go full try hard but not just that it’s also great to play with friends especially if you want to take your anger out on them by beating the crap out of them it’s honestly really fun and people should try it out more

You ignorant children whining about the bugs are spoiled little brats…… its a beta people…. bound to have bugs and will…. OUR job is to help by letting them know so they can fix it quick and move forward with content or whatever…… you ignorant children are giving negative reviews for no reason in my opinion. I spotted two bugs …. sent it in to the devs within an hour it was adjusted and or fixed. So learn to do reviews properly and with dignity, because you look foolish. GREAT GAME SO FAR DEVS KEEP IT UP!

MY HERO ONE’S JUSTICE

MY HERO ONE’S JUSTICE

TL;DR: Needs balancing, would be a lot bigger if Bandai didn’t mess up release and basically refuse to listen to customers. Not even worth $30 in my opinion

On launch, a very large portion of the people who had bougth this game could not play.

Bandai released this game in the U.S after already being released in japan a full two months ahead of time.

Why does this matter? It matters because in those two months of being released in Japan you would think that they would have been able to do away with a couple of things.

Real player with 56.8 hrs in game

My Hero One’s Justice is a decent game with simple mechanics and flashy combat.

Performance wise I’ve run into a few freezes which take a little while to blow over. However, I could never really determine the cause of these freezes since they’ve each happened at different times. Otherwise the game performs fine.

Graphically, this game is decent. Nothing about these visuals is insanely impressive and nothing about them really screams awful either. At most they’re average and that’s it. The main reason I was disappointed in its visuals is because the original reveal trailer, while it was CGI, seemed like acheivable visuals for the base game. As unrealistic as it was for me to assume that, the game’s visuals itself aren’t up to par with that trailer which is unfortunate.

WWE 2K19

WWE 2K19

TLDR:

In comparison to the other WWE 2K games available on Steam, 2K19 is the “best” out of the bunch, though that isn’t a very high standard. The game has a large roster of current, past, and legend superstars to play as. You can expect bugs and crashes sprinkled here and there that can potentially ruin your experience (e.g. crash during character creation and losing all progress). If you want to play a wrestling game on PC, your best bets are either WWE 2K19 or Fire Pro Wrestling World. Also, we don’t talk about WWE 2K20.

Do not buy this game. Oh, it’s on sale? It’s still not worth it. Specifically if you enjoy creating content in-game. The video editor crashes frequently, royal rumbles crash more often than not halfway through. Changes you make to characters don’t save. Audio tracks fail to load. Custom Arena settings don’t work. Music will play over itself during cut-scenes. Created content fails to save correctly and will corrupt your entire save file. The game will crash at a load screens and corrupt your save file. Deleting content will corrupt your save file. I spent over 200 hours creating content for this game. Lost it all because I attempted to copy a created MITB briefcase, which crashed the game and corrupted my save. Had to start over from scratch. Maybe a month later attempted to save a created video. It went through the saving process but stayed in the video editor. I exit out to desktop and the preview is listed as empty. Close the game, reload, everything is gone again. This happened on two different gaming PCs, both which have a GTX 1080. Oh but there’s a BIG HEAD mode now…………….. cool.
