Phantom Breaker: Omnia

Phantom Breaker: Omnia

Phantom Breaker: Omnia, a massive update to Phantom Breaker: Extra, a 1-vs-1 2D anime fighter originally released by Mages in 2013. The game features 2 guest characters, Kurisu Makise from Steins;Gate and Rimi Sakihata from Chaos;Head, as well as two brand new characters created specifically for Phantom Breaker Omnia.

  • 20 Character Roster!

Includes all the characters and guest characters from Phantom Breaker: Extra like Kurisu Makise from Steins;Gate and two brand new characters created specifically for Phantom Breaker: Omnia.

  • Choose from 3 different fighting styles: Quick, Hard, and Omnia!

The 3 different styles in the game can drastically change your characters’ speed, power, and mechanics.

  • Retuned and Rebalanced!

The ability to pull off amazing combos and special attacks has never been easier as Phantom Breaker: Omnia’s fighting system has been overhauled and rebalanced.

  • Dual Language Audio!

A Phantom Breaker series first, all the characters will have English voice acting. The game’s text will be also translated into English, Japanese, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Simplified and Traditional Chinese.

  • Modern, Remixed Soundtrack!

The background music for each character has been redone and remixed with the option to play the original background music.

  • The Complete Experience!

Players can immerse themselves with the stories from both the original Phantom Breaker and Phantom Breaker: Extra.

A mysterious man, known only as ‘Phantom’ appeared in Tokyo—the capital city of Japan—and manipulated vulnerable adolescents into fighting each other, bestowing upon them mystical weapons of great strength known as ‘Fu-mension Artifacts.’ In exchange, he promised to grant their wish if they survive.

Unbeknownst to the combatants, the fierce clashes between Fu-mension Artifacts caused distortions in space-time, which compromised the boundaries between parallel universes. The collapse of these parallel universes would ultimately break the seal, unleashing Phantom’s destructive powers.

SAMURAI SHODOWN NEOGEO COLLECTION

SAMURAI SHODOWN NEOGEO COLLECTION

As someone who plays Samurai Shodown offline for the characters' stories, I think I can recommend this to those looking to play the NeoGeo installments. The museum has interviews with devs, tons of old Samurai Shodown artwork and pictures of old promotional material, including artwork and promotional material of the Capcom & SNK crossover games that feature SamSho characters. HD Scaling makes the characters look smoother when the games zoom out.

It’s a shame Samurai Shodown V here doesn’t include its story mode’s official English translation but it’s still a nice collection if you’re looking to play the NeoGeo Samurai Shodown games on PC.

This is a collection of all of the mainline games that were released on the Neo-Geo. I have plenty of good memories with these series of games, especially the first game. This collection doesn’t have every single title in the series, such as Samurai Shodown VI. Because of that, this collection comes off more as a tribute to the Neo-Geo as equally as Samurai Shodown.

Where this collection truly shines is in the Museum. There’s just about everything you can think of when it comes to the Samurai Shodown series. Character artwork, concept sketches, stage art, music, etc. There’s even interviews with some of the folks who worked on past games and some professional matches from past tournaments.

SAMURAI SHODOWN V SPECIAL / サムライスピリッツ零スペシャル

SAMURAI SHODOWN V SPECIAL / サムライスピリッツ零スペシャル

It is often said that “Street Fighter” is a good starter serie/games in the middle of Versus Fightings Games, and It’s true. But Samurai Shodown (V Special, IV, II or VI) is in my opinion much better for that.

  • The combos in this games are just simple links with a special when you hit your opponent or cancel recoil animation when you hit in the guard.

  • The specials are very simple to execute, 90% of specials in the game consist to imput 236 (quarter circle) or 263 (dragon/Z).

  • The mechanics are fews and very simple to learn, the “hardest” thing to understand that is your rage meter doesn’t just give you a super attack, but a super attack (called Weapon Flip Technique), the possibility of meditate, a time slow, a better sword jauge, a rage explosion (for fatalities and better sword jauge)… And it’s all you know almost everything of the game when you know that!

If you want a fun and unique fighting game with a varied roster that will test you in ways no other fighting game will, with a character for every playstyle, give this game a shot. Want a game with an active and dedicated playerbase that’s always ready to throw down and help a newcomer out? Give this game a shot. Want to play a game where you can possibly kill someone in two well-placed hits? Maybe even one if you’re lucky? Play Samurai Shodown V Special.

I cannot stress enough that this is without a doubt in my top favorites of the genre. Everything about it, even its jankier aspects, oozes elegance and refinement over the 11 years spanned between the first SamSho and this one. It is in my opinion the absolute definitive game in the franchise, even with the new one (that also looks absolutely fantastic, mind you) coming out.

BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger

BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger

One of the best fighting games out there, as can be expected from Arc System Works. This may be an outdated game, gameplay-wise (multiple new editions have come out since this one, with new characters, balance changes and continued story and such), but I think it’s still worth getting the first game for the sake of the story mode. The story mode of this series is actually quite rich and detailed with a very thought out lore and world (rare for this genre) with very lovable and charming characters and funny situations, and in a gorgeous visual novel style. Other than that, there is arcade mode and versus with a very expansive gallery mode to collect for.

A little late to be writing about this, but still wanted to as I really enjoyed this game. Surprise as this is coming from someone who didn’t really enjoy or have any interest in the genre outside of Super Smash Brothers (if you even want to count that, I consider it more of a beat-em-up) and a couple oddball games like Soul Caliber and Virtua Fighter 5 as well as even a Street Fighter game, none really caught my attention until I bought this on a whim. Just like with Skyrim, I wanted to give it another chance, maybe I’d find something enjoyable here that I didn’t with the other games and did I ever.

Had a great time playing this with friends.

The controller support is really rough around the edges though and it’s difficult getting different controllers to work.

THE KING OF FIGHTERS ‘98 ULTIMATE MATCH FINAL EDITION

THE KING OF FIGHTERS ‘98 ULTIMATE MATCH FINAL EDITION

The most complete version of KOF 98 ever finally hits PC.

Pros :

  • There are EX version of half the cast, which make a lot of the characters play very differently. There are all the boss characters playable too!

  • Has the original vanilla KOF 98 game with original menus, OST etc if you want to experience.

  • Huge diverse roster, not many games like it.

  • Universal defensive and movement options.

  • Challenging and satisfying gameplay/combos, worth the training time. (This game is aimed at legacy KOF players but you won’t struggle with any 2d fighting games if you master the execution in this game)

Real player with 58.9 hrs in game

Ah, KOF ‘98… One of the all-time greats of the fighting game genre,

and now, you got it here on steam at a much more affordable price than what I had to shell out for a Neo Geo CDZ, it even has online play to boot! So if you like fighters and wanted to check out KOF, make it this one.

The roster is made up of every single fighter featured from KOF ‘94 to ‘97

with the last couple of missing combatants being additions for the “Ultimate Match” update from some years back.

You got two different styles, or “Grooves” if you are so inclined.

THE LAST BLADE

THE LAST BLADE

Beautiful Game, awful port.

Like the Garou Steam port this Last Blade Steam ed suffers from very much the same faults.

Again the game drops directional inputs making crouched chain combo input very unreliable and hi level play impossible.

Strange as Last Blade 2 doesn’t suffer this input bug. Dot emu, can you patch this please?

Edit:

There’s a fix for the buggy x-input. In BP go to controller steam input per game setting forced off. Save and exit.

Start the game and the game controls should work normal. This trick works for all of dot emus neogeo releases.

The Last Blade is surprisingly understated for a fighting game, with a moody soundtrack and battles that sometimes forego background music entirely. The combat is fairly basic as far as 90s arcade fighters go, but it’s quite satisfying, especially the repel mechanic. It makes for a very tonally distinct fighting game experience.

However, the port job here isn’t great. Although it does have its fair share of bells and whistles (multiple difficulty options, training, online multiplayer, etc.), the game only gives you 9 credits per player per playthrough, and there are no save states. The emulation has its problems, too, notably with the responsiveness of the controls. It’s not a dealbreaker, but this game deserves better.

Bounty Battle

Bounty Battle

After a few post-release patches, Bounty Battle is now playing smoothly. It aims for Smash Bros’ simplicity: normal attacks are varied by holding a direction with a button press, special attacks function the same way, and that’s it. No combos, no counters, and no secret special moves. The problem is the game couldn’t stop itself there. The additional systems are all certainly well-meaning: an energy cost for special attacks to encourage mixing in normal ones, spamming punishments to discourage button mashers, and a bounty system to keep the pressure on whoever is doing the best. Sadly the latter, which the game takes its name from, makes the best case for why these extra systems are superfluous.

I’ve put almost 10 hours into the game which I feel is enough to write a review fairly. So first off yes there is a lot of issues that need to be addressed (the discussions says it all) But! that doesn’t mean the game isn’t fun. I was able to look the other way with all the issues and actually enjoy the game fully and I have to say it’s actually good! A lot of people may not agree with me but i’m not here to argue i’m here to say that this game does have a lot of potential and even though it got released with high expectations for a lot of gamer’s and was not delivered at launch does not mean you should look the other away and ignore this game. I realize that the developers are a small crew and that it will take time to address all the known issues but for the mean time I support this game fully. I’ve enjoyed the content it has at the moment and I am happy I purchased this on day one, this way I can see the game grow and evolve into something even more amazing then it already is! If your hesitant on purchasing the game definitely wish list it and keep an eye out for upcoming updates otherwise I recommend it. Be patient as in time the game will slowly become what everyone wanted.

Indie Pogo

Indie Pogo

A different take on the “platform fighter” genre.

For most games in the platform fighter genre, they aim to do what Super Smash Bros. does but in varying but ultimately minimal degree. The dodge, respawn, or ledge mechanics may change, but they all still abide by the laws of the main smash games with combo, tilts, smash attacks, specials, and aerials. Indie Pogo is built in a different way.

The main goal of Indie Pogo was an idea of your character constantly jumping, which sounds terrible in a traditional platform fighting which has walking, running, short hops, and full hops, but Indie Pogo simplifies in some areas but complexes some other areas to make a potential annoying mechanic rather fluid and fun.

Real player with 376.7 hrs in game

Simple yet has some complexity to it. It has forced auto jumping but it actually works quite nicely to the flow of gameplay since you’re always in motion.

There are only four moves and a super move for each character, a n-air, u-air, d-air, and grounded charge attack. By performing combos and landing on the ground you recieve gems which allow you to do your super move. You need 5 gems to perform one and the the bigger the combo the more gems you will get.

There are 10 stages and 14 characters in total so far but the game will be getting updates with free dlc including stages, characters, trophies, skins, and modes in the future.
