Wildsilver

Wildsilver

Wildsilver is the fourth JRPG created by Great Potion Games. It will feature …

  • about 15 hours of playtime

  • an epic and emotional story with several plot twists

  • a turn-based battle system with an active-time option

  • a four-character party with a female protagonist

  • a lot of character customisation in terms of stats and abilities

  • medium difficulty with optional challenges

  • legendary equipment

  • puzzles

  • collectibles

  • quests

  • secrets

  • breakable urns

  • British English

  • continuous patches and support (as always)

Before actually working on a project of this scale, the basic design should be perfect. Feedback from actual players (you guys) is extremely valuable in determining what works and what doesn’t. Releasing a free demo on Steam seems like the best way to get as much feedback as possible in the shortest time.

The demo could be considered a condensed version in terms of gameplay. It includes most of the characters, skills, equipment, items and enemies that are planned for the full game. There’s no plot, however, no quests, no puzzles. The game elements and locations may or may not be part of the full game. That depends on your feedback! :)

Wildsilver is planned to be released in autumn 2022. There may be an early-access version.

Story

The first half of the game doesn’t have much plot beyond clearing game boards because of the protagonist’s curiosity, though there is some lore about the previous heroine. The second half has more lore and more stakes, as well as several plot bombshells. While I did like the story of the second half, I can see the lack of real conflict in the first half turning new players off before they can get to the better half.

Gameplay

The first few parts of the game make it hard to gather any resources. Enemies don’t drop money and they aren’t guaranteed to drop sellable items, meaning the player is stuck in a resource drought situation if they try to do traditional grinding. This can be intimidating because in the beginning, the only way to fully recover the robot is to pay 10 cents, which means inefficient gameplay can result in waste of limited money. The resource situation does get better in the later parts of the game, since the player can find free healing/save statues and an accessory that increases the drop rate.

An easy but very nice RPG game. Its style really attracts me, and maybe anyone who loves ‘nostalgia’.

And if you love collecting things, or riddling, this game can be unexpectedly a little hard for you.

BTW bugs are seen too often, and the scene called ‘Sesame Hideout’ even disappears! Hope it can be fixed sooner.

An absolutely wonderful game! Along with fitting a nice spot in the horror genre in general with how creepy transformation can get, this game delves into something games have at least hinted at: Submission to the villian not just in cutscene, but gameplay. Though a growing number of games are allowing you to be the villian, this idea of ‘perma-corruption’ as I call it is beautiful. On top of that, the map is never confusing, the puzzles are difficult but fair and the unique card/sentence fighting system gives the game a luck-based edge.

Bizarre little game, a mixture of old school text adventure with a graphical set up and command menu system (doesn’t have every command but has most) with survival horror and a turn based card focused combat system. It works, though, and I highly recommend playing on easy because the last difficulty swing is just brutal.

The premise is you, your little brother, and your best friend/love interest end up coming to a mysterious mansion filled with living dolls and have to find a way out and figure out what’s going on here. The art is a bit odd at times, but the writing is often great, descriptive and filled with character, capturing the voice of characters from across a wide selection of genres. It’s satisfying to figure out a puzzle, exploration is constantly rewarded, there’s a lot of endings to find, and the world building is surprisingly in depth.

Beatitas

Beatitas

Beatitas has a wonderfully exciting story that takes place in a fantastical world. It’s battle system is simple to learn, but an important piece to strategy throughout the game. Great music, fun puzzles, and well-written story combine for an outstanding game experience. Explore many different worlds, fight your teacher, and see if you can escape the Beatitas.

Thanks to the quick responses by the dev I started playing this most interesting and fun rpg. Already hooked as the story and game play show this game is going to be a winner. As many of you know dev support for games is a rarity, as many abandon their game once released. Not here and I am looking forward to a long enjoyable rpg ride.

I’ve stopped writing reviews since the last one which was long time ago. Simply because most of games don’t worth my time to review it, instead, by doing so, it is completely wasting of time since write a review doesn’t earn me anything or any money, sounds like Ako I know. But my case is: I rarely write a review unless it moves the bottom of my heart and soul making me feel guilty if not doing so. Blue Reflection is happened to be a rare case.

First thing I want to say: This review will heavily focus on my own feelings towards the game and the logical motion I had with it rather than talks about general things regarding the gameplay or any regular stuff. It may end up not very helpful for you. If so, I would like to state my apologies here first.

I’ve played many, many games and this one certainly deserves a review for all it has - the good, the bad, the ugly.

Visually Appealing, Sometimes Appalling

The thing that drew my attention from the very start was the art style - from its simplistic menus and icons, to the beautifully designed characters and worlds, I found myself attracted to it immediately. It’s perfect and refreshing. Then we have the ‘worlds’, called The Common, which is equally as fascinating at first glance. I really appreciate the little details like water reflection and cape transparency as these, albeit small details, are good details.

Cris Tales

Cris Tales

The first time I saw Cris Tales, something in the trailer compelled me to anticipate it, that being the art style, and it being too wonderful for me to let it slip in my radar. That being said, months of waiting and a delay later, here is my verdict:

Let’s get the first thing out of the way, the visuals: I’m glad to say that the gorgeous art is consistently great throughout the game, every design felt… immaculate to my eyes, each place, each character and each enemy. The striking, picturesque choice of serene and hot colours makes the landscapes feel pleasing to the eyes and makes for some visually iconic moments, certainly ones that made me audibly go “Holy crap, this art style”, and the few bits of cutscenes make you wish there were more. The only real issue that I’ve only noticed later is the lack of shading which leads to some places feeling a bit too bright, and the use of 3D in the landscapes looking quite obviously that they were made in Unity engine can turn some off.

This review is an edit from someone that first played the game in its demo and then played the game on its release date. The review was edited to 1). Help people looking into this game if its for them) 2). Update my review to remain concurrent with the current patch) 3). Become more clear to assist in both numbers 1 and 2) 4).

Overall Review:

Although I had a great time playing this game when it first launched, a considerably large amount of people were upset with its lack of settings, bugs, and general imbalance. The new patch seems to have fixed some of these issues leaving the game in a much more playable state

Decent rpgmaker game with a surprising amount of class choices, not only for the companions, but for the main character as well. All with different skills. The maps are large and filled with secrets.

But the whole game is being dragged down by 2 major pains in the ass. The ridiculous frequency of the random encounters and limited line of sight. Exploring everything, trying to do all the quests and finding all the secrets is a huge chore. Even though most of the time you can reliably skip encounters sometimes you get them literally every 3 steps. The game constantly wastes your time. As for the line of sight there are a lot of areas where you can see in a small radius around you and that’s only if you have a torch. Trying to navigated labyrinths when you can’t see shit only leads to unnecessary back tracking and constant encounters. There are items to prevent encounters, but along side torches you will have to keep opening and navigating through the menu. Either way it’s constant interruptions and pointless hindrances. The game is so much better in well lit areas or in areas without random encounters. I know I’ve missed 2 bosses and an important quest, but I can’t possibly be arsed to go again through previous areas.

Of Gods and Men: The Daybreak Empire

7/10

I have played this game to completion now and even replayed it to toy around with it a bit. Having gotten what I feel is the full experience, now is a good time to reflect on whether or not this game was a success. It is worth noting that this is a first attempt by a team of amateurs, so much of what they did must and will be analyzed from a basic, textbook-like level. Let us start by looking at they did well.

‘Of Gods and Men’ is a war and strategy game that follows the story of girl who conquers a fantasy world. The narrative is simple without being distasteful and is free of pretense. While not the most engaging or thought-provoking, it provides the necessity of a context for the gameplay and a satisfying sense of a beginning, middle, and end. The diversity of characters and locations are a plus to the narrative we are given.

I wish I could give this game a “meh” instead of a thumbs up or down. Going with thumbs up because you can feel the love the small (and new) dev team put into this game, and I want more game entries in this genre generally. This game reminds me of ye olden game boy/DS fire emblem games.

The good: Enjoyed the graphics, the story (though somewhat short and predictable) has heart, the soundtrack was appropriate, and the gameplay is my preferred mix of turn-based combat and team management. Also some interesting ideas in different class mechanics.
