Eventide Night

Eventide Night

Pretty solid Bullet Hell with fun and challenging levels. I re-binded the keys to C for attack, X for attack (there are two keys for the same attack, for some reason), and Z for the special move or ‘circuit’, as it’s called in-game.

I spotted some bugs here and there ー sometimes the game would freeze up and would only unfreeze once I paused and unpaused the game. Something else similar happened after I lost all my lives and selected “Restart Level” ー the screen would sometimes turn black and would only go back to normal once I paused and unpaused the game. It wasn’t a massive hindrance, but I thought it should be pointed out.

A beautiful game with a really nice soundtrack. I really like the theme and air of the story too. Default keybinds are a bit odd, using J for fire and K for bombs and WASD/arrows for movement. Can’t seem to find any English language option for the story, not sure if I’m blind or if it’s just actually Chinese-only. But considering the low price, I’d say it’s still worth it for the gameplay and music even if you can’t read the story.

Dark Devotion

Dark Devotion

Short review: 9/10

Long review: This may get rambly, I don’t usually write reviews, but this game is awesome. I’m also gonna make a few comparisons to Souls games.

This game is incredible. It’s got nice style, it’s got good music, it has some pretty fun mechanics that make it feel like I could keep playing it for a very long time, even if I did beat it.

What’s good about this game?

Just about everything.

Combat and general gameplay mechanics.

It feels like it’s taken the best of the souls series, and compressed it into 2D. It feels incredible, responsive, and has some fun stuff you can change up for different builds. It has its own fairly unique leveling system, where you essentially keep your upgrades and XP when you die, but lose all of your gear. It allows you to choose from quite a few weapons straight from the start when you die, so it’s not like dying nets you losing everything you’ve picked up along the way. It just makes it so you start back with your basic load out. As you play through, enemies can, and usually will, drop weapons that are able to be picked up. Some people may not enjoy this, but it makes the game super fun in my opinion, as it forces variety in builds.

Awesome game, had a great time with it.

With its stamina-based combat, punishing difficulty and a bleak dark fantasy setting, Dark Devotion inevitably draws comparison to Dark Souls. Yet, players expecting simply a 2D version of the influential RPG will instead find a very different game that belongs more in the action category, with some platforming and rogue-like elements.

Every time you start the game or your character dies, you go back to the shelter having lost all of your possessions. You must then leave the shelter through one of several doors, each leading to a different area in the game world, and attempt to reach the next point of progress. Aside from one, these doors must be unlocked first by reaching their respective areas on foot.

Fairune Collection

Fairune Collection

Fairune 1: A very stripped-down action-RPG, very short and lacking in plot but with fairly good music and visuals. However, it is more basic and less difficult than Fairune 2, so I recommend playing this before that.

Fairune 2: An expansion on Fairune 1 in every way. There are now far more areas, boss fights, fixed damage enemies that give no experience but some of which stay defeated forever, deeper mixes of enemies, more strategy that comes from stronger enemies still being defeatable, multi-level skills, far more creative puzzles, modestly improved visuals, more, better, longer and more upbeat music tracks, a far deeper plot, and a longer, better and harder final boss.

Lots of secrets and has that difficulty that makes it amazing. Lots of cool achievements for the people that love collecting them. RPG feeling 8-bit game with puzzles to progress. I cannot express how much this was WORTH the money! The achievements just keep you going!

edit: There are bugs at times, so all I can say is SAVE NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO! but it’s still an amazing game. (Also some of the achievements are bugged, in a good way though)

Ignis Universia: Eternal Sisters Saga DX

This game is awesome. It’s funny, fun and nice to look out. It’s just a little game so don’t expect much but for what it is it is amazing. First off, I love the art. It’s cute and the girls are beautiful. Secondly the jokes in this game are on point and will amuse any rpg fan. They are clever and I laughed multiple time at the self aware humour it provided. Finally I like the game play. It’s not complicated as that’s not what this game is, but as a simple fight system for a simple visual novel it is interesting enough. I spent forever finishing all the achievements but I still had fun. Great game. Definitely check it out.

“Keeki Desu!” - Eleanna

Ignis Universia: Eternal Sisters Saga DX was a really nice surprise. In this game, you play as a Null Brother, a being tasked with finding and bringing all four of the Chosen Sisters together to bring down the evil wizardess Galgatax. At first, I thought it would be another half-rushed VN with thrown in JRPG elements, but I couldn’t be further from the truth. What I got instead was a charming story, funny dialogue, absolutely beautiful pixel art, and a surprisingly competent battle system. There’s a bit of replay value here as well. After I finished my first playthrough, I immediately went back and started another run to gather some of the secret achievements I missed.

Kathy Rain: Director’s Cut

Kathy Rain: Director’s Cut

Welcome to crazy town

Kathy Rain Director’s Cut is a re-release of the original game with slight enhancements and bonuses.

The game is great and owners of the original got a good discount but still it would’ve been nice to make this a free upgrade. There’s not enough enhancements or new content to justify the price.

Story and gameplay are things which makes this game awesome.

Kathy is a troubled young woman living with her christian roommate. Kathy’s mother is locked up in a mental institution, she smokes and has a bike. A very lovable character with amazing sense of humor and the whole story about her is just amazing. The game starts with a funeral and since then Kathy embarks on a journey to dig some stuff about her family’s past.

Real player with 18.0 hrs in game

Kathy Rain is a point n click adventure set in the 90s but with modernized controls over the early classics that we love.

The story, characters and dialogues are very good. The puzzles aren’t too hard but are pretty fun and creative. So if you love point N click but feel rusty over the puzzle solving this game is excellent to come back. The truth is that this game is a must play for every point N click lover or jst anyone who wants to dive into the genre.

This director’s cut edition is the definitive way to play it. Fix everything and adds new content. Also if you have played the original around four years ago like me, you’ll enjoy replaying this edition.

NOYO-!

NOYO-!

+Cute visuals

+Wacky enemies with humorous names due to English translation

-Short (about 10 hours)

-Not difficult at all

-Lots of unnecessary defense skills (to quote a JP language review, “meaningless assistive skills”)

-Enemies respawn almost every time you enter a room, which is annoying

Real player with 11.1 hrs in game

a cute Earthbound-esque game. Not really any side quests in it and my achievements have stopped working. It is still fun and will keep you entertained, however you’re most likely be unable to find any english guides and the translation could use some better work

Zone of Lacryma

Quick but sweet SHMUP with a simple but engaging leveling system in which your Score is your Experience to level up and get bonus stats such as bullet speed or recharge rate.

Took me around 3h to beat with a lot of retries on the last few missions, but there was absolutely no filler, no stages where I actually knew what was going to happen, it was exclusively good content from start to finish.

Might be a bit overpriced for the time you’ll likely spend on it but it’s really fun to replay as levels have are many separate parallel paths to complete.

Real player with 8.6 hrs in game

It’s a nice little shmup.

I love upgrading and having the choice to invest and change my playstyle, it has that. That’s nice.

I like the graphics, the color pallete isnt a rainbow mumbo-jumbo like most titles of this genre and the pixel-art is from the better part of pixel-art, not from the lazy-ugly-Undertale group.

The soundtrack is there, nothing special, it fits the industrial-space theme of the game.

It has some bugs, but they arent gamebreaking nor do they destroy the playthrough.

Dev is friendly, gib him some monies. Have fun.

A very short and a unique playstyle as well not to mention it’s literally a Boss Dragon Battle. Hack n slash, dodge, heal, shield and run, very easy to play but also difficult when it comes to per attack patterns. :D

good game for a quick fight against dragons, although the tree dragon team up fights are a pain because of that bite move
