GLADIUM

Hey! If you enjoy short and sweet reviews, follow my curator page here! I am an independent Curator providing reviews and insights to the games that need the spotlight! Thank you! :)

Gladium is the project of Eirik Wiklund a one man developer studio and yes, the game reminded me of Domina , a strategy game where you took charge of a Ludus, training and preparing Gladiators in a management approach, where the fights were simulated. Both games enjoy the pixel art style and that’s where the comparison should end.

This is quite a difficult game to review tbh. It is a very unforgiving game, some of the bosses you will fight will kill you many times, the part that some people may dislike the most is it’s grind system to be able to defeat the bosses or even try another go at them (you gain blood points to trade for perks and for another chance at a boss if you fail), meaning that if you lose to a boss you will have to play either normal mode or horde mode to try again, making the game VERY repetitive. You will also earn gold to unlock new equipment, which is necessary to try different strategies as you cannot fight all the bosses in the same manner (at least I advise againts it). Ultimately I’m giving it a thumbs up because I had fun the whole 14 hours I played and I even got a little addicted, the theme helped as I really like gladiator style fighting games, but be warned, if you get frustrated easily this may not be for you.

As an avid Thumper player, this game checks all of my boxes.

-dark atmosphere

-killer soundtrack, heavy drums

-high speed, high intensity

-high skill ceiling

The game makes use of all of its mechanics, all of the time. So even though you are encouraged to go fast, there are points where you can’t always be turbo-ing. USE THE BRAKES!

Solid game, and I’m only on world 4. 10/10

EDIT:

After completing the game, I have to recommend it even more.

And the devs are receptive to feedback and are improving the game! There were several unfun issues with a few objects and hitboxes, which have been patched, making this an even better speed game.

RUS:

Hepta Beats looks like a fusion with Geometry Dash and Celeste, but it doesn’t make me want to destroy my keyboard.

Damn this game is good.

Razed is a beautiful game about speed and momentum.

There ist 100% no break button. Plan your jumps, time your jumps and stick the landing - keep your momentum - Jump again. The more you play, the more you develope a sense of flow and every route you take through the levels just washes you through like a jet stream.

Can’t remember having such a blast with a game for a long time.

The game starts a little bit too slow for my pace, but that way it offers a learning curve even for beginners.

Real player with 32.3 hrs in game

RAZED is a fun, but slightly flawed, parkour speedrunner.

You race through 66 short obstacle courses, unlocking new abilities (such as jumping and wall-running) which can be upgraded as you progress. Running slowly (or stopping) and using abilities will drain your energy meter, while going fast and picking up gems will refill it. When your energy meter reaches 0, you explode.

I see some of the other reviews mentioning limited jumping as minus, but to me it’s a plus, as it means you have to plan out your route if you want to reach the goal, And spoiler:

! Once you unlock the final upgrade, you can jump and use abilities as much as you want.

This is an unique 2D platformer, at least in my opinion, the point of the game is your this round little guy/ball or whatever you call it and use your mouse to controll it to move the way you want it, but cause people is not used to 2d platformers where you gotta use your mouse tthe easyer tasks easly become hard, the game has so far ive gotten a very nice diffeculty spike where it starts easy and slowly progress and become harder and harder, and yea it’s the type of game called rage game which means if your a guy thateasyly rages cause you die, this will mostly be a play once in a while kind of game, easy to play some levels and than take a break cause it gets hard. cause how hard it is it’s an very intresting game to speedrun, cause how the game is built

Real player with 576.4 hrs in game

This 2D platformer is simple at its base while continuously upping the difficulty level to keep you on your toes. It’s no easy feat to complete the game, especially while finding the secret in each level, but the triumph you feel when you get past the big hurdles makes it all worth it. Not to mention the fact that the game lends itself well to speedrunning, both in the physics of the game itself and the built-in timing and high score system. If you like fast-paced platforming with relatively basic mechanics that get used in a variety of creative ways, you definitely don’t want to miss out on this.

I came across this game when i was just scrolling through new Steam games. The game trailer looked cool and the price was good so i gave it a try.

I like the simplicity of the game and how it looks. There could be more levels, but i think the 30 levels is a good amount for a simple game like this. If you’re bored and have a few cents to use i see this as a fun game to go through. I think the price is perfect for a tiny quick fun game like this. The colors of this game look good too and the 3D effect (i hope it’s called that) looks nice. I also made an video of all the 30 levels in one just for fun on youtube.

HyperCore : Rhythm Bullet Hell

HyperCore : Rhythm Bullet Hell

HyperCore is a “Rhythm bullet hell”, mixing the frenetic action of classic bullet hell shoot’em up with semi-procedurally generated encounters based on the music.

Survive by avoiding the countless obstacles sent towards them by the core in sync with the music.

 • Score attack: Earn more points by taking more risks! Hug obstacles to increase your score multiplier.

 • Time Attack: Get hit. Die. Repeat. Try to stay alive for as long as possible in this unforgiving game mode.

 • Custom Song: Play with your own songs!

 • Local 2 player versus: compete with a friend locally.

Played a couple rounds, it’s a fun game, maybe a bit pricey for where it’s at right now. I’d love to see it refined, be able to be less laggy perhaps become available in multiplayer (3 players 3 teams or 3 players on a team even). I’m not a game designer and have no idea how, but some ideas I would offer is being able to pick spawn points, spawn in different places around the points (so players don’t get killed immediately from enemies firing at other teammates respawning) and perhaps a bit of delay when teams switch so players don’t get killed immediately.

Hello! This game is actually a hell of a lot of fun. I just wish the controls werent strange and the guns actually looked like guns. The Physics could also use some help but, not at all a bag game! i love it

Pretty solid precision platformer. It takes many mechanics from Celeste, but still, it manages to have its own personality. Actually, some of them are better implemented in this game than Celeste, like the dash/jump or dash/wall jump, the consistency when grabbing walls, the extra jump when exiting speed tunnels, etc… they feel way more responsive and easier to do here, which its amazing honestely considering im comparing this game with what i consider the best 2D platformer ever made.

The game has 7 standard chapters, some of them pretty long, and 3 extra “dark” chapters, which are supossed to be harder, but the reality is way different… And here it comes the main problem this game has, and its how unbalanced the difficulty can be at times. The first 4 chapters are a walk in the park , then the last 3 become really hard if we compare it with the previous ones. Then there are those mentioned “dark” chapters, which are technically more advanced since they make you use trickier strats, but there aren’t challenging enough to be called “dark” if we compare them with the standard levels. And finally, the final screen will break you… there is nothing remotely close in the entire game to this screen. But thats why we are here afterall right? Some old school hardcore platformer, and this game delivers it pretty well.

This game is a lot of fun! It looks great, controls great, music is pretty chill! Has a lot of really neat platforming! Difficulty isn’t that bad, it adds techniques throughout the game in order to make it gradually more challenging. Most of the levels you can bang out in a few tries but there were a few that did take a bit of practice and grinding out to get through, mainly towards the end. When you get those tough spots though it feels so smooth and satisfying!

Each Chapter has 3 challenges that add to replay value: Collect all the coins, Time Trial, and Deathless! I’m currently in the process of getting the Time Trials and Deathless runs which is proving to add to the difficulty of the game! The Coins were pretty easy for the most part to collect on the first run of the game.

FLATLAND Vol.1

FLATLAND Vol.1

This game is a pretty fun, fast-paced platformer! Not too difficult, though there were a handful of levels that kicked my butt for a teeny bit. The music is pretty banging! Got 100% achievements in just under 7 hours in one sitting. The extra game modes you unlock, “Faster Than Light” (race against the clock) and “Not Him Again” (Boss Chase), were pretty fun and challenging additions to the game! I didn’t really care much for the “Square Fights Back” (arena) mode but others may enjoy it!

I can’t believe I missed that first C-C-C-C-Cube though! I went through each level like 3 or 4 times before I found it. _ And there’s literally NO Achievements Guides anywhere on the Internet nor Steam. But I did find 48/50 of them on the first play-through so they were pretty easy to find! :)

Flatland is an incredibly well-designed platformer that focuses on player skill and reflexes.

The retrowave aesthetic is vivid, simple and engrossing. I love the use of simple geometric shapes and how they all somehow have a unique character and personality. The bonus levels look particularly stunning when you find them!

The music is also sublime with a handful of catchy electronic/synthwave tracks that are both distinct and match the mood of the game perfectly.

The gameplay is super fast with level design that goads the player into finding creative solutions. It has a free-form platforming design that lets you wall-jump indefinitely, dash
