Outset
Welcome to Outset.
Outset is a 2D platformer RPG being developed for PC and Mac. You control an Explorer, a wanderer tasked with searching the surrounding world and ideally finding something useful to bring back to your home - the village of NOTDON.
But how will you do that? With your GRAPPLING HOOK!
This stylish tool lets you speed across gaps and barrel through the world in a gameplay loop that combines fast-flowing platforming and nonlinear exploration. It’ll even impress the other Explorers (for better or for worse) and make you the talk of the town, for the first time ever!
Along the way, you’ll encounter ferocious foes, navigate the world, and maybe uncover some secrets about the world around you and your place in it.
…
Nah, of course you won’t! It’s just a game where you fight robots and try not to die! Just a fun, friendly, little game…
…right?
FEATURES:
-
Master your grappling hook and its slew of upgrades to discover new locations and secrets
-
Learn about the world around you through gameplay, new discoveries, and LOTS of (mostly optional) flavortext
-
Forge your own path… nonlinearly! Every dialogue choice and navigational decision will significantly change the story and the path forward.
-
Explore the 6 distinct regions of a massive, interconnected world (this is an indie game, though. It won’t an AAA open-world game in 2D. But it will be big. But not that big. But still big. But not…)
-
Get hustled by no less than 2 very similar shopkeepers
-
Witness the evolution and impact of humanity firsthand (this means that major areas in the game will change and adapt based on the story)
-
Take a nap
-
And many more!
On track for a release in early 2022… hopefully!

Half Minute Hero: Super Mega Neo Climax Ultimate Boy
This is no doubt one of my favorite games in the library, and I highly, HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who likes Action games or Old School RPG satire. The game is about a boy who sets out to save a kingdom and, through a twist of fate, ends up making a pact with the Time Goddess to save the world…which only has 30 seconds until it explodes!
The game mostly parodies people, gaming, and most of all, the classic RPG, and it does it well. The game as a whole is really a parody, making it a point to “Grind, Grind, Grind!” when really getting to high levels only takes a few minutes. While the player only has thirty seconds to save the world, they can pray to the Time Goddess and, with an added fee, can turn back the clock. The story is expansive, and there are multiple paths and multiple endings, as well as multiple ways to go about each level (some story arcs even being surprisingly serious and tense).

Truthfully, going into this game, I didn’t know what to expect. With the name telling me I have 30 seconds to complete a mission, I thought it was going to be very easy. This is far from the case. As others have mentioned, this game makes you think strategically about when to grind, when to spend your money, how to spend said money, when the best time to fight the boss would be, etc. It’s this balance while forcing you to think on your feet that makes it so interesting. Some missions you may beat the first time, others, especially the bonus missions, may take you two, or three, or even more attempts at them, but you will most likely end up loving it every time and, at least in my experience, rarely, if ever, ever give up in anger because it’s that fun and addicting.

Half Minute Hero: The Second Coming
“Half Minute Hero: The Second Coming” is the sequel to Marvelous’s Half Minute Hero, which I strongly suggest playing first. The first game is shorter, lighter, and a good indicator of how you’ll feel about the sequel. If you liked the first game, you’ll also like the sequel. If you didn’t like the first one because it didn’t feel enough like a JRPG, you should try this one. If you simply didn’t like the first game, you won’t like this one either.
I’m going to write this review as though you’re familiar with the first game.

This is a game series about saving the world in 30 seconds… sort of. Actually anywhere from 2 to 5 minutes in practice but it still has the “Wario Ware roleplaying game” feel about it.
What’s kind of interesting and ambitious is that the nature of the parody is naturally running a little dry, so the game doesn’t sell itself strictly on its core gimmick anymore. That was a very smart move on the developer’s part, in my opinion. It doesn’t strictly feel like a series of action levels emulating an RPG this time around. This game is actually a true RPG as well. You explore, grind on enemies, search for collectables, all that good stuff. Just that the original game’s arcadey gameplay is the meat of the story segments and are replayable in much the same way (with the ability to turn off the advantage the RPG-side of the game offers). The story is a bit more substantial and the characters have a more coherent and central role, with the ability to set your own party and no restrictions on equipment. It’s not quite as overtly silly as the original game, it takes itself a bit more seriously – but not by a whole lot. A defining silly moment for me is when one of the protagonists goes inside a virtual boy game and inside the game you have to use a controller to clear a path. Trippy.

HTD
This game offers a unique, almost puzzle-like aspect of combat that is simple yet effective. There is a very steep learning curve, but once you have crested that hill, the game becomes incredibly addictive and rewarding. While the combat itself is very simple, the bosses present new and unique challenges such that no two fights will play out the same; each one requires you to adapt. While the replay value may be limited, there are plenty of secrets and extras to be found. Overall, this game is incredibly difficult yet incredibly rewarding, so if those games are up your alley like myself, you will greatly enjoy this game.

Good game, replay value is a bit meh
The game offers some interesting gameplay: standard rpg team but in a fast paced boss fight format. I have played this game for 4 hours, and i enjoyed all of it. However the game doesn’t have much more to offer me i believe. As of writing this i have beaten 14 bosses, with 2 unlocked after the big bad guy. I don’t know where the presumably last boss is as i can’t reread the story. So now i have to replay the game again.
Is it a fun game? Yes. Is it worth the 10 Euro’s i spend on? maybe.

Animus - Stand Alone
wish you guys would have blended some of these missions together, they kinda work on a cell phone but are so short when playing on pc. other than that im really impressed even with the jank combat, its still addictive and fun. Another issue is combos are messed up sometimes, forcing you to mash a button in order to queue the next move. I thought it was a touch screen thing but it seems like its just built in. like i said, great game, just wish you would have integrated everything on pc as to take advantage of it, not just straight up port the cell phone game because i know M and team have it in them to do it. You guys have a solid core to expand on, please do it!

Arrest of a stone Buddha
Надежна лишь смерть, жизнь — нет.
К сожалению, простая и тривиальная игра Arrest of a stone Buddha

another incredible effort from Yeo. easily my favorite developer in the indie space.
[ TLDR: the game is awesome; the aesthetic is on point; the story is minimalist but effective; the gunplay, even with occasional quirks and bugs, is tight and exciting as Hell; the look and the sound (graphics and music) are beautiful - even my wife, while listening to me play, said, “i really love the music in your game”. buy this, and Yeo’s other game, Friends of Ringo Ishikawa, immediately. /TLDR]
––
Arrest of a Stone Buddha is lighter, somewhat less “meaty” title than the previous game in the developer’s catalog, The Friends of Ringo Ishikawa (a surprisingly poignant and emotionally deep exploration of a Japanese high school gang leader delinquent’s last year of high school, and all that entails). where Ringo Ishikawa was a melancholic treatise on growing up (and what it means for those who cannot or will not try), Arrest of a Stone Buddha is the next logical step in that emotional journey - the existential and monotonous routine of day to day life, where sometimes those days seem to run together, from one to another, and you find yourself just passing time until the Next Thing you have to do, never really engaging with anything in the present moment - just drifting, the world whirling by with your feet barely on the ground.

Fighting Moore
This is a fairly straight forward combat game, at least at first. You have 5 attacks – a hammer, a meteor, a spinning wheel which quickly moves you across the map and two spells you fire from a bow. The best part of the attack system is being able to pick what attack to use quickly.
There are around 10 enemies you face (though I still haven’t seen some from the trailer), some spell casters, some healers, some warriors. The same strategy of attacking, dodging, and attacking is pretty consistent versus most of them but things get more complex once you hit chapter 3. You often face 5-6 enemies at a time but there is a bullet time mechanic to help out.

This game is wonderful! Mechanics wise it’s wonderful! It’s smooth, but it took me a min to figure out how to properly cast. I spent the first few tries just wandering around. I will play to complete all chapters now.

Badland Envoys
In a broken world of desolated wastelands, chaos, rage and destruction dictate the rules of survival. Far stretches of the ruined land are ruled by self-acclaimed warlords and bandits that roam the roads with their diesel-fueled war machines, delivering the cruelty to anyone that dares to enter their domain. In all of this madness, pockets of a new civilization start to shimmer. That’s where you come in. As a member of the Badland Envoy’s, and elite guild of skilled drivers, you’ll be tasked with leading the expeditions between towns and newly created settlements, establishing safe routs, protecting the cargo, and eliminating any encountered threat. You’ll be a messenger, a porter, a warrior, and most of all, a new hope for those that try to rebuild humanity.
Do you have what it takes?
If you’re get stopped out there, you’ll die. Think fast, drive faster, react instantly. Remember, it’s not always about the speed of your car – sometimes it’s about the speed of your trigger.
Spending some of that hard-earned buck on your rides is always a good idea. Installing new armor plating, homing missiles launcher or a high tech nitro system can make a difference between life and death out there on the road. Be good to your chariots and they’ll repay you with the same. Trust me.
So you’ve got a few extra wheels and hired some new crew members? Good. You can trust them to have your back, but when things get really tough, don’t hesitate to give them commands from a more tactical point of view. It can save your life, and more importantly – your cargo.
If it wasn’t about the job, we’ll be no different than the bandits. The orders placed through the Guild give us goals, meaning and hope for a better feature. Remember that all orders have different sets of requirements. Delivering medicine through hills requires more vehicles, different gear and more specialized crew than a recon mission deep into marshlands. Plan ahead and you’ll be fine.
See you on the road.

Overall rating is 6/10.
This is a somewhat fun, addictive and non-traditional soccer (or football, if you will) game. Instead of controlling any of the characters themselves, you instead get access to a wide range of powerups that you can use to influence the outcome of the game. Initially, you begin with just mines that you can place to blow up the enemy players (or even your own, if you’re so inclined) but as you progress in the game, you get access to other powerups (some of which include cows that run people over, rockets, UFOs that pick players up, rabid fans that help your team kick the ball, etc).

Warlocks vs Shadows
Quick update: game is dead, developers MIA.
Warlocks: a fast-paced action RPG platformer with online co-op, competition, and all-around fun gameplay, unique visuals (characters and levels) and atmosphere.
6.5/10 in current state (Q1, 2015), but would recommend as the developers have shown dedication to development, and there is much more content in the works. I backed during the Kickstarter phase and haven’t regretted my decision! I anticipate that 6.5 to reach an 8/10 or higher given what I have seen so far, and based on the fact that review is for the current early-access game.

Playing through Warlocks while it was in development was a lot like being a parent. It seems like it was only yesterday that I had high hopes for this fantasy take on Risk of Rain called Warlocks (who goes by Warlocks vs Shadows now because he is an edgy teenager), but hoped for better item variety, more content and better enemy balancing. But now, just a few months later Warlocks vs. Shadows is all grown up and ready to disappoint me!
The characters in WvS all look very different, but whatever difference they had in playstyle gets lost quickly in the middle of mindless battles. There might be some stats and abilities that are different but none of the characters' abilities really stuck out to me. The pyromancer’s channeling dance spell was neat, but other than that I just remember the characters shooting different colors and dashing around. In the opening tutorial the game explains the mechanics of each character and their four abilities, except for one character who can change forms and has 6 abilities, but none of the little tips seemed to matter because enemies just swarm you and your only concern is dealing damage. There are hardly any scenarios where I needed to use the angel’s double jump, or watch the robot’s overheating meter because there was no need. Overall combat lacked variety and a learning curve: everytime I started the game as a new character the tutorial walked me through every character’s abilites assuring me that I would need to pay attention to all of this, but really I didn’t because the enemies are weak, cooldowns are a joke, and there are no items that change up how you play.
