Risky Wings

EDIT: 2/26/19 Record name change.

EDIT; 9/11/18 The issues I describe below of needing to acclimate in order to avoid hitting objects has substantially been dealt with admirably in several ways, in more than one update. MUCH more intuitive now. Thank you!

Full Disclosure: I LOVE TO FLY!!! (As a gamer, I mean.)

As such, I have a substantial number of Steam-based games that allow me to indulge this joyous affliction, the most recent being the wonderfully designed and remarkably addictive and entertaining Risky Wings (previously UBERFLIGHT.) Admittedly, flying games basically do one thing, and the measures of such games are:

Impossible Soaring

We fly around buildings, through windmills, over mountains and through caves because we can, and because it is fun.

  • We do these thing not because they are easy but because they are hard. (JFK)

Overall a great game, especially for a indie game a congratulate the developers for such a great simple game, and I hope it will get more attention than it currently has.

Good game:

**It’s the first game that I feel like hunting for a position on the leaderboard. If you don’t care about leaderboards it’s still fun to just better your personal record for yourself!

Maps are enjoyable you unlock them with your score and it’s fun to explore them one after the other!

Especially since each map has it’s own track. Each track is different and good to listen to.

Also I love the small town in which you can go explore, talk to people, it creates a small home between the flights…**

Descent Vector: Space Runner

Descent Vector: Space Runner

Introduction

Descent vecor is an endless space runner by Heavy Pepper Inc. with procedurally generated levels, I came across this game during Steam Next Fest and really liked the demo. I received a free copy for beta testing. It has a simple concept but it works really well. It also has pleasing graphics with an endless supply of space stations, space crafts, brackets and asteroids for you to dodge. I play a lot shmups and to me it feels a bit like a rail shooter without having to shoot anything which I somehow find quite relaxing.

UPDATE 2/23: DEVELOPMENT IS CONSIDERED FINISHED, BELOW REVIEW STANDS AS ISSUED

Dev response has dwindled with the imminent release of their other project, Super Ultra Monster Truck Madness Road Brawl, and a winding down of development has been strongly implied here: https://www.reddit.com/r/AirBrawl/comments/470c6l/an_open_letter_to_wilhelm_regarding_playerbase/d0adwc6

This game comes highly recommended for groups of friends and folks of the same skill levels. Casuals beware!

Wow! This game is amazing. Definitely the most fun I’ve ever had in a dogfighting plane game. It ignores the constraints of realistic physics and gives the planes exceedingly tight and responsive controls, allowing for a ludicrious amount of stunts and maneuvers. The maps, although few at the time of writing, are very well made and are very fun to zip around in. Whether you’re on top of your game, flying through spinning fans and closing doors like a fighter ace or screaming “CRAP CRAP CRAP CRAP CRAP” while frantically trying to avoid walls, it’s a great experience. Trust me, ‘cause I’ve been both.

Endlight

Endlight

Break through and outlast shifting, twisting, chaos. Fly through surreal landscapes desperately trying to get hoops. Dodging is impossible, smash instead. Start with 10 shields, each hoop adds 1 more - it’s not enough. Releasing early 2021… perhaps later.

3 Years of Free DLC. Endlight ships with 100 levels that cannot be replayed. Every 2 months for 3 years, another 25 will be released for free (600+ levels total). Even though you’re terrible, we’ve ensured that you will defeat them all. Everything is merely preparation for the yearly challenges, which you will fail. The FINAL challenge is Saturday March 2, 2024. Ominous.

  • Hand crafted procedural generation

  • 1 Player 30,000 particles 120,000 cubes

  • Everything moves, everything rotates, everything intimidates

  • Spectacular first person “Outside” levels

  • “Surprise Chats” with an unhinged narrator

  • Ultra streamlined user interface - you can’t even choose levels

  • Everything has been sacrificed to fill your screen - there are no empty spaces

  • Endlight never gets faster, only denser

  • Not a game, an assault

  • You’ll Learn Nothing

D.E.E.P.: Battle of Jove

D.E.E.P.: Battle of Jove

D.E.E.P. Battle Of Jove is an epic, fast, arcade-type campaign-based dogfighter that aims to take next-gen graphics & controls to achieve an experience that gamers have known since Star Fox: an easy to pick-up single player shooter where players chose from different ships they can upgrade as they take the role of one of the members of the rebellion in a fight against a power, deep AI.

FUN:

If terminal velocity is your thing and barrel-rolling is your middle name, DEEP is what you’re looking for. Shake off enemies tailing you by doing a loop, maneuver thru giant space constructs near Jupiter or rocky corridors planet-side, use your homing missles to target the next enemy while speeding past your ally mothership.

THE DEPTH:

Choose from different ships that range from the speedy scout, the tank-like Crusher or the balanced Raven. These ships can be upgraded and customized both in terms of functionality (weapons, engines) as well as comestics, to be obtained by completing missions or getting achievements.

THE NOT’s:

Altho it might look like other games in DEEP there is no open-world, no rogue-like elements and no procedurally generated anything: All the levels are hand-made put together, following a retro-strand of space games while featuring all the next-gen shine and splendor you’d want why defying the skies.

THE STORY:

D.E.E.P. will tell of a rebellion taking place in the Jovian System, where the player is part of a rebellion, resisting and battling against the ever-increasing all-knowing all-controlling mega AI called D.E.E.P.-Brain. Thru the 8-hour long campaign players will start out as veterans turned rebel,

Art of Space

Art of Space

Note that this game is still in alpha and that the game experience may not be fully complete and bug-free.

What is ART OF SPACE ?

Do you love fast-paced 2D space shooters? Where timing is crucial and success is sweet? With lots of satisfying destruction and explosions? Then read no further, this should be very much to your liking. (Just kidding, do keep on reading.)

Art of Space is essentially madness, as can be seen below.

Inspired by online and offline space shooters of the last two decades, Art of Space aims to provide a similar feel/atmosphere, putting an emphasis on fun gameplay mechanics while the campaign is reminiscent of the early days of online gaming.

Art of Space gives you the chance to build a spaceship and tweak it to your very own tastes, both visually and stats-wise. This game is for people who love to try all sorts of different combinations to figure out that ONE sweet-spot build that feels just right.

If you’re more of a “mad skillz!!” person, you will love the combat in Art of Space as fast-paced is what we do, and perfect timing is what we love. Your spaceship is a modular machine that can be destroyed and rebuilt bit by bit, all in the heat of battle.

Meanwhile, our single-player story-driven campaign aims to provide a narrative around the world of Art of Space, while providing many hours of entertainment to the player.

For the price of a hot meal, here’s what this game offers:

  • Manoeuvre your weapon of destruction through hazardous asteroid fields as you take out foes and defend allies using a wide array of weapons and utilities.

  • Build a fully modular spacecraft from a pool of ship parts and weapons.

  • Tweak your ship’s stats and utility slots.

  • Follow along a story-driven campaign that will provide many hours of entertainment.

  • Test your skills in the Endless mode to see how you measure up to others, or just take it easy and use it as a playground to try out your newest configuration.

Great Game.

I had the chance to play and test it during the Beta.

When i heard that the Devs want to release it soon i had my doubts due to the balancing.

But they did everything right, the weapons are on point and each has their own categorie where they shine.

(Longrange, Shortrange, Sneaking up, Midrange Brawls etc.)

Atm. there is no Matchmaking so it could happen that the matches end onesided (one team dominating 100-0) but im looking forward to those Tweaks.

The Roadmap looks promising, maybe a bit more maps throughout the Months.

This game made me discover that I sexually Identify as a Megadon M9X attack drone. Ever since I was a boy I dreamed of soaring over the desert shooting long hard rockets on disgusting Raptor 1000s. People say to me that a person being an attack drone is Impossible and I’m fucking brain-dead but I don’t care, I’m beautiful. I’m having a plastic surgeon install a Drone-Brain Meld Interface, rotary blades, a Nova cannon and dual Predator machine guns on my body. From now on I want you guys to call me “Megadon” and respect my right to to hover in mid-air and engage in aerial combat. If you can’t accept me you’re a dronophobe and need to check your drone privilege. Thank you for being so understanding.
