Gardenia: Prologue

Gardenia: Prologue

TL:DR I don’t know what the final game will turn out to be like, but this Prologue/Demo was a delight to play. It had crafting, questing, collecting, platforming, mining, plus a little gardening. And poop, it had a lot of poop. All of it was fun, even the poop. :[ Cherry on top: this prologue has 7 achievements.

The slighty longer version:

You begin in a tutorial area that you may dump :3 without completing to go straight to your little village. In the village you will meet two animal characters (a la Animal Crossing) that reside there. They are helpful and will ask you to complete 2 quests, for which they will reward you with items you will definitely need. In order to complete those quests you will need to find 5 blue & 3 black mushrooms- this is where the bulk of your platforming gameplay will happen. And you will need to collect and craft some items also. There are some other quests and stuff to do, but it is up to you how much effort you want to invest in finishing the whole thing. It is possible to get all 7 achievements without getting to the end of what the prologue offers, and it is possible to finish it without getting all the achievements.

After completing all me achievements. My personal opinion on this game is.

I like it’s graphic, a more simplistic style. The atmosphere is also very calming. So are the sound effects. I find it funny and enjoyable when you realize the whoosh, hup, blululu are probably made by the same person, it’s just nice.

Personally don’t like too much music on a game where its more focus on nature soundings like wind and bird noises. so a few gramophone so you can hear back its music is nice : (also because I turned it almost all the way down-)

Overview

This game does the bare minimum of everything it claims to have. Some things in the games ‘About’ are rather disingenuous to this as well; this is the inspiration in creating an extensive and spoiler-free review. The combat, farming, quests, dialog and environments are the same exact cliches as every other game of this type. Everything felt uninspired and dry. All in all this had a feeling of being an early access game where all major mechanics were present but had yet to be fleshed out. Many games fall into this category, and a lot of them make up for it by being charming or unique in some niche- this game does not.

if i had to choose two words to describe this goddamn masterpiece, i would say

passionate and beuatifula

it has powerboxus that you have to send to the end of the level. very challenging gamep[lay to boot. Recommend .

Wow. That’s all i can say. This game is thrilling, you drive a nearly broken tractor with poor steering and brakes through steep narrow hill roads. But this is what makes this game great. It’s a challenge, and it’s so optimised that it could run on a PC from 2006. It is also dirt cheap. I recommended it to a friend.

Chang’an: The capital of Tang Dynasty

Chang’an: The capital of Tang Dynasty

Nice game! The game vividly and accurately, without compromising the fun during game play, reconstruct the great ancient capital of Tang Dynasty, one of the most prosperous, powerful, and open one in the Chinese history.

Personally, I enjoy the unique Fang system, which gives players flexibility to construct each Fang in a distinctive and challenging way. The benefits in authority, gold income, labor, and culture which are generated by poets and paintings are novel and of great fun. Moreover, the completion of each tasks yields different achievements, which makes the city more realistic and true to history. A fun and great game for players who are interested in ancient cities building.

I like the graphics of the game, but the tutorial is very basic. And there doesn’t seem to be a way to get your income above 50 gold a month. That means it takes centuries to get anywhere with this game All the main buildings cost 5000 each. Do the math and you see it is a slow process. And there’s no real sandbox game. It’s just played in a sandbox. Also, using the wasd to get around is tedious! Maybe it will be a good city builder…someday.

Flower Design

Flower Design

In the brief time since FLOWER DESIGN was first released, it has blossomed into something rare. It is obvious that this DEV has a love for beauty (as well as desire to share it), and that love is what motivated him to embark on this project. But he also created something of beauty that encompasses game concepts (and even achievements now!)

When FLOWER DESIGN first launches, few components of flower arraigning are available. The player has a single pot, and very few flowers and accessory plants. The player can select a background, and the related lighting and shadows. At first, I considered that this might be a detriment for appealing to the more impatient of today’s gamers. To actually REQUIRE numerous finished arrangements to be “sold” into the game, to collect game currency in order to access more pots and plants? Would players be willing to wait, and work, to produce more elaborate arrangements, after starting off with possibilities so simple and basic?

Real player with 11.6 hrs in game

I play this game when I’m supposed to be going to bed but not ready to get off electronics yet. It’s very simple, you pick flowers for a pot and can change just about all the parameters for the flowers and pot, then sell your creation when you’re done; the more parameters you’ve edited, the more it sells for. This game works perfectly on a touch screen tablet, and is pretty relaxing, except for the fireworks sounds when you sell an arrangement.

My major complaint about this game is not being able to move plants around in the pot. There’s a “pose” button that will change their location and direction at random, but sometimes plants will just stay stubbornly clustered away from one corner of the pot. Add the ability to move plants instead of all the other edits the developer is making to this game, and get rid of the fireworks sound, and it would be perfect!

Tree Bonsai

Tree Bonsai

This game is essentially an interactive art piece.

Though I do hope the time and camera controls get improved and communicated better, I have found this game very endearing and enjoyable, and there is nothing else quite like it on Steam that I’m aware of. If you enjoy simulations that you can watch play out while giving them nudges here or there, or like interactive art projects, give it a try. As a child I could just sit and watch a lava lamp for a long time, and somehow this has a similar combination of simplicity and complexity that tickles my brain. It would make a great screensaver as well.

Real player with 54.5 hrs in game

The game delivers on what it offers and its very aeshetic and pleasing, I look forward to spending more time on it. Unfortunately though it’s kind of hollow at the moment.

Some requests I immediately had when playing was a more clear understanding of time passing, it keeps saying no need to prune your tree in the first year but unless I’m missing something there’s no time shown or life of the plant, so I just have to keep waiting. I know I can see the Chinese zodiac year and season but can I have an option to display something on screen at all times? (e.g. Plant age 323d planted Rat Year Spring currently Ox Year Winter or something small in the corner, even just more info in the current tab like a loading bar for the season/year)
