Book of Beasts is a free-to-play Collectible Card Game. It is nothing like Hearthstone, Magic, Yu-Gi-Oh, and the likes. It’s more like a Puzzle game.

Your Deck consists of 20 cards. Each turn you draw up to four cards. You can play all of them on the field. Each card has (a) different element(s). There is fire, water, air, earth, and spirit. A card can have different elements on each side which means you will have a card you can connect to another fire card and have a connection to a water card at the same time. You can’t play a card if you can’t connect it to another one.

First Impressions:

I learned how to play the game after just the first introduction match. That is impressive!

The game is so simple to learn, I think I can get others who would be intimidated by other card games to try this out. I REALLY hope a Mobile version of this is on the way, because this game has great potential for a strong scene.

Also I was curious on how they monetize the game. It appears to be SUPER generous. I mean, 15 bucks for the ENTIRE first season of cards? Insane value!

Simply awesome, and super funny :)

This game consists of lots of trivia questions and pop culture references, all packed in an awesome cartoonish graphic setting!

There are literally tons of different questions, mainly revolving into as I said pop culture, cartoons, movies, anime and so on, and you’ve always got to choose between four different answers.. the rounds are made of nine questions each, but the most important thing is that.. everything’s always enveloped in a story!

A funny one, with different endings and so on!

Excuse me but I have to write this out loud:

THIS GAME IS AWESOME.

Yes, that’s a highly subjective assessment, but let me tell you why I already love it after playing it just for a little while. Of course, this short review contains SPOILERS, so be aware of that before continuing to read my thoughts.

Running on the Unity engine (and being proof that there ARE good games using Unity) the graphics are kept simple still. Possibly there could be more (shadows, lights and all that) but this game doesn’t need it, as it works great with its simplistic, fun and cartoonish style. If you haven’t seen pictures or a trailer, think of South Park but slightly different. Being quiz-themed you’ll very often encounter text boxes flying in but there’s way more well done “retro pixel art” in this game than one might assume at first. Depending on which “story” you’re playing there are some simple and yet captivating backdrops, urban scenery or even stuff in space. I’m still a sucker for nice “old school” game art, and the graphics in this game work extremely well for me.

One Hundred Ways:

If you like puzzles and marble balls, you will be in heaven with this game!

What you have to do is to find the way for your marble ball to reach the green flag to beat a level. The fun bit is you will have to overcome obstacles, but do not despair, as you will have an inventory of goodies to reach your goal. Well, sometimes I wish I had a lot more options but I guess that is the challenge - to see it through.

You will have to beat 100 levels and the difficulty will increase fairly and steadily as you progress through the game. Keep in mind that the first 10 levels are actually tutorials. At the start of each level, check your inventory of goodies (up to 30 different one in total) and put them in the right place to hit the flag.

Played through all of the levels and overall it is a pretty good puzzle game. The major issue I have with it is the physics inconsistencies though. You can run a scenario 10x and get slightly different results with the same items down, which means you can have a correct setup, but will have to run it several times before it works, which is incredibly frustrating for what is essentially a physics sim. It also felt like the physics in the game would genuinely change in order to stop me from doing a specific kind of play and I felt liked I was running into invisible walls in terms of gameplay and didn't have the freedom to do my own thing. Also, how they handled speed in this game is really weird and I wish they gave like a spedometer on the ball or speed values on the boosters or something. Visually, the ball will be going fast enough to clear something, but it's official speed value isn't high enough, so it won't, which is crazy. I wouldn't say these issues were game breaking and I generally enjoyed the game honestly, but this seems like a simple thing to fix on their part.

I really liked the concept of the game I like that there are anime questions even though they're almost 100% shounen which is my least favorite genre outside of death note (I would consider it seinen). The execution kind of fails it though one you can skip to the final actual boss that'll fight you (witch chick) by leaving the tower and going back in. The final boss literally kills himself which is lame I don't know if that's supposed to be a meme or a game glitch. A lot of items you can't equip which is lame. I did get a party of anime characters with mispelled names to avoid copy right which is cool lufu and pukachi were sick contributors to the team. I think it's a decent game for the price even with the bugs.
