Mystery Trackers: Train to Hellswich Collector’s Edition

Mystery Trackers: Train to Hellswich Collector’s Edition

Thumbs-down only due to length. It was way too short. Get it on a discount ($6 US or less).

Other than that, I thought it was a better-than-average game for the genre. Had all the usual elements. Lots of stuff to find. The mini-games weren’t just the same ones you see over and over (though a couple were way too simple). It was a little too linear for my tastes, but not too bad.

I played the demo. I liked the demo. I purchased this game because of the demo and the “cool” looking graphics and style.

And then… I quickly discovered a lesson I’ve learned long ago with games. “Don’t judge a book by its cover”

While this game seems to take its inspiration from the movie “World War Z” and it has frantic, fast, and relentless zombies… it quickly turns into nothing more than running in circles kiting the zombies over and over and over and over and over and over. “Zombie Kiting 2020” would have been a much more fitting name for this game that in the end is about as shallow at that ditzy blonde we all knew in high school.

Monster Train

Monster Train

I guess hours played should really say what I think about this game.

I have a very specific morning routine. I wake up, start making coffee, brush my teeth and have a smoke. When coffee is finished I sit down and slowly wake up to a game or two of Monster train before starting work. Sometimes I play a game of Slay the spire but since that takes about 30-45 seconds to start I tend to go for Monster train (500 hours of SLS on Gog).

This is the perfect timewaster. Easy to get into and all the different races have so much variability. And deckbuilding is my favorite boardgame game mode ever.

Game is pretty fun. A bit more combo based than say Slay the Spire and a lot of luck can be needed on higher difficulties. That being said it is bright and fun and it’s enjoyable to take a train to hell.

This game is really wonderful, I’ll still recommend it. However as Early Access Games aren’t really perfect, I credit the developer for replying to the threads. In general, these are the issues I am having:

1. Game really pauses every few seconds, you end up building on a wrong site. I have to reload it constantly.

2. I have to build inserters again because they aren’t “inserting” or just holds on to items.

3. Animals end up carrying items on their back and not unloading, just running around as if confused what to do.

7 out of 10 Stars (for tier 1 & 2)

The game a lot of good potential and you can replay it with other setting option. The transport of goods with the logic system is nice. It is done with Zeppelins or horses in the 1st of 3 tiers. A baker, a brewer and some housing keeps your team happy. The start is on the bottom left and you expand your space with Bonfires to the top right and some helpers join your group. I started with 8 and 5 joined. Everything i mine, loot etc. goes with me to the next Island. The game has a Colonist Management which could be used for micro manage your bonfires in 5 groups (subs on your isle like farming, industry etc.) Order your settlers what to do and and in what sub to work. It only worked on the for the start group and not on robot helpers or joining Colonists. Sometimes it helps to reach your goals on food or drinks before they join and eat/drink everything away.
