Altarage

This game is… interesting, to say the least. I bought it because I saw that it had no reviews and I was intrigued by the gameplay trailer. lets get this out of the way, this is not an early access game, this could barely even be called an alpha. It barely works and half the time it feels like its about to fall apart at any second. the controls are stiff, the tutorial barely explains the mechanics, and its overall a very VERY underdeveloped game. However, I still find this game fascinating.

The animations are surprisingly good when it comes to swinging around your “sword”, and when dueling does work it honestly looks pretty damn cool. I can see what the dev is going for and I’m interested in the idea, but I honestly don’t think this game should be for sale in its current state. Despite this, as Ironic as it sounds, I still think you should buy it, not for the game itself but to support the developer. while I don’t think this game will ever be a masterpiece, I do think it has potential to at least become something playable and fun. the last thing I want to happen is for the dev to see low sales and terrible reviews and lose hope in developing this.

As a dude that’s known Pan Panda since about 2018 (and re-introduced myself to it and introduced a friend after a joke), it’s honestly impressive to see a game like Pan Panda evolve into this. I really wanted to like this game, but I just can’t because of the current state it’s in. Don’t get me wrong, this kind of stuff has a lot of potential. I can see this evolving into something people would enjoy!

What I like:

  • The combat system. The combat system is a huge improvement from Pan Panda. The only thing I don’t like about the Combat System has a lack of hints, so it’s very easy to forget combos.

Boreal Blade

Boreal Blade

easily the best melee “fighting”/slasher style pvp game in the vein of jedi knight 2/JA (inc. with mods like MB and OJP/JKE), in my opinion, of all time. whatever genre you want to call it, it’s a coming together of classics like the Jedi Knight series, Die By The Sword, Chivary, Mordhau and to games like Absolver as well to a degree.

To me this game is a beautiful marriage of the elements that made me love “melee slashers” and it’s plagued by none of the issues of other titles. The movement, animation, attacks, attack feedback, abilities and customization are all done beautifully and you can tell what’s going on regardless of how new you are to the game. The controls take a short amount of getting used to, after that it’s incredibly intuitive. It’s an incredible amount of fun to play, shockingly easy to learn and just the right level of hard to master. I haven’t enjoyed being owned by far better opponents or enjoyed owning less skilled players this much possibly ever. It all comes down to the aesthetic, combat feedback and combat design that is IMHO unparalleled by any other game on the market. Name a game with combat that’s more intense, well-thought out and encourages the least anger towards the game than this. You can’t. These developers deserve all the support anyone can give.

Edit: I wrote that because I kept trying to post my review, but I thought maybe it was too long or something so if I would just type something short it would post then I could edit it later, but then it didn’t work, but I guess it did.

Oh my oh my oh my. The beta was already super promising. Sure I didn’t get to play much in the beta since they weren’t many games running, but it was a blast. And I was expecting to pay $20, and then it’s $4, but then on sale for 10% because why not, and, and less than one 5th of the price, and, and… Oh yeah I have to talk about the game.

Dark Messiah of Might & Magic

Dark Messiah of Might & Magic

I am genuinely afraid to reinstall this game again… I keep playing it and beating it again and again and again. It is just THAT good. The storyline and the gameplay are both amazing.

You play as a young apprentice to a mysterious wizard, who sends you to retreive a magical crystal, during which you get a basic tutorial in the basics of gameplay, including the combat, spellcasting, and stealth, and receive the first skill points used to specialize in different abilities (unlocking combat moves, spells, stealth ability… increasing health or mana levels…). Then your mentor binds you to a demoness to be your sultry companion and guide and sends you to deliver the crystal… at which point things immediately get INTENSE. There’s an immediate and somewhat excessive increase in difficulty right off the bat, which can be a little offputting. But if you stick through it you get to enjoy more and more of the gameplay elements.

I first played Dark Messiah way back when it first came out and it’s a game I have constantly revisited over the years.

While I’ve sunk more hours total into any given Elder Scrolls game I’ve played, Dark Messiah by far holds my personal record of total completed playthroughs at too many to count but at least several dozen.

I keep coming back to it to try out new skill/weapon combos and novelty character builds and keep finding new little hidden stuff even after years of replaying and knowing the game essentially by heart at this point.

Warp Soldier

Warp Soldier

In a retro, monochrome fantasy landscape, the white sage Jericho has employed you to stop the local warlock from reviving an ancient evil. Is it up to you, the Warp Soldier, to put an end to his dark ritual. With your vast movepool, unadulterated ferocity, a few movement gimmicks, and tiny peglegs, do you have what it takes to end the warlock’s army before they put an end to you?

EXPLORE A VAST, RETRO, INTERCONNECTED WORLD

While the land lacks in color, the world the Warp Soldier must trek features several ecosystems, all authentically scored with the chippiest of tunes. Backtracking is rewarded but seldom feels like a chore with the powers the player will come across.

A MURDEROUS, ENCAPTIVATING CAST

Not only is the cast of cannon fodder charming and varied, but many of the bigger baddies you come across will have character arcs of their own. Whether the warlock’s headliner henchmen become your bitter rivals or eventual allies will depend on how you express yourself during combat. If tasteful violence versus fierce foes isn’t your forte, there are some NPCs scattered about who may be able to help you with a sidequest or two.

COMBO CANVAS - SHOUNEN STYLE

While your sword and swift kicks are already devastating on their own, your ability to teleport next to foes you’ve tagged with warp-strikes lets you extend your melee combos and air-juggles like only an anime protagonist can!

Legendary Tales

Legendary Tales

A+ Game!!! Legendary tales, as it stands right now 11/28/21, is a fantastic game that is among the best VR games ive played so far, and I consider myself a veteran. It is essentially Diablo, which seems intentional down to the music in the town. Devs nailed it. The combat is tight, and fair, where if you pay attention you can parry attacks consistently, but if you get sloppy you quickly get punished. The magic, which is apparently being radically improved in the near future, is already SUPER fun. My wife and I play this game together endlessly, where she if often damaging/stunning/freezing hordes of enemies as I plunge in to fight dual wielding swords. I am absolutely STOKED for the future of this game, as they have cleartly laid out a massive plan for additional monsters, magic spells, levels, bosses, synergy magic system, items, skill and stat systems, and so much more.

Too expensive for it’s current state. Essentially 20 levels of the same 3 enemies and on the exact same style of dungeon map that take too long to kill and cannot be engaged in an enjoyable manner. The physics and mechanics of combat are just bad for now, with developers dedicated to asian style MMORPG elements (The bad ones) - involving relentless grind-based progression, in VR where you physically will struggle to sustain the requirements.

The best point in the games history was at release when there were abilities and weapons that could be abused to shift the balance in the players favor - making progression enjoyable. Since then the devs have relentlessly worked towards making the game more difficult and removing any exploits while ignoring the community’s actual requests. They have only focused on redundant balance fixes and the broken magic system since release - barely managing to address some serious bugs.

Vanishing Realms™

Vanishing Realms™

My background: Not a gamer really, have tried and tried, but the only games I truly have enjoyed is Age of Empires 1 & 2, Diablo 1- 3, Silver and Portal 2. I dont like sitting still while playing. So I bought a Vive, and i own 70 titles at this point. Or more. I can´t get enough.

Vanishing realms: This is, without a doubt the best game I have ever played. Yes, there are some things that need to be fixed, and it is still early access. But it is truly astounding he amount of joy I get running through this wonderful Dungeon Crawler! This is the game i dreamt about as a child! Thank you Devs, you are true heroes!

Chapter 1,2 and first hour and 15 minutes of chapter 3 here: https://youtu.be/cDg1ZLQ8FCU

Well I was certainly excited to see the long awaited Chapter 3 of this VR classic finally here! I unfortunately did not have a save file so had to play through the first 2 again, but it was like visiting an old Zelda game and brought back all the feels so I didn’t mind. I’m only an hour 15 min into the 3 chapter thus far and can’t wait to play more. It looks to be quite a bit bigger than the previous 2 chapters combined! Seriously I feel like chapter 3 is so much improved over the first 2, it should just be Vanishing Realms 2.

POST LAUNCH SUPPORT

I’ve left my original review at the bottom, as I believe it’s important to remember the state this game originally launched. However, since launch, a FREE update has alleviated my two greatest concerns with this game. Firstly, and less importantly, you can now revisit previous Omens once new Omens are unlocked. Originally, you could miss half the game simply from choosing the right branches in each gameplay loop, and while later weeks leave it rather obvious who the right choices are and in what order, during the first loop you just don’t know enough and could have easily locked yourself out of early content. This has since been patched, with you being able to choose exactly which route you want to pursue with each character before you start the day. Still would have liked an option to abort a day though.

“Urralia. A prosperous land, home to many tribes. The gods entrusted the Bird tribe to watch over the others. The tribe founded Pygaria, and all lived in harmony under the banner of the Pygarian Empire. Until seven years ago, when Pygaria began recruiting the Dog and Cat tribes. As their strength grew, the other tribes suffered. To protect themselves from Pygarian oppression, the scattered Rodent and Bear tribes formed an alliance, led by a rebel names Ratika. Tonight, the Pygarian Empire launches a brutal assault on the Rodentian capital under orders of Emperor Indrik. When the capital falls, his conquest of Urralia will be complete. And far from the front lines, one who could have brought peace, the Godless - Priestess Vera, has been murdered. In her absence, there is no one left to protect Urralia and its people. The end times are near. Urralia needs a savior.”
