Ultimate ADOM - Caverns of Chaos

Ultimate ADOM - Caverns of Chaos

Update 8/26/2021: The game has reached version 1.0, and it’s still not fun.

Overall performance and stability have improved somewhat. There tends to be less lag when moving around, and autoexplore is quite fast. On the other hand, inventory performance has gotten worse. Opening the inventory screen can take a few seconds and switching equipment a second.

With the introduction of continuous buff spells, this is possibly the easiest version yet. Most buff spells now last forever at the cost of reducing maximum PP by a percentage. For casters this doesn’t matter too much since PP growth seems to have gone through the roof. For non-casters this doesn’t matter too much since they are killing things without spells.

I record my playthroughs with Ultimate ADOM if you prefer a more visual format; take a look if you like.

I like Ultimate ADOM. I liked it during the Alpha, and I like it even more now. Much progress has been made, as more and more options are opening up, options like Limb Grafting! I shall be a Grafting God!

Dragon Age™ Inquisition

Dragon Age™ Inquisition

i played DA:origins as a teen and loved it, i was dissapointed when DA:2 came out so when inquisition was released i just avoided it and honestly forgot it existed until the recent sale where the GOFTY edition went on sale for $9.99 USD

I can say at that price it was an amazing bargin and if all this content was at release i would have said it was worth full price, but we know EA so that means it wasnt. So wait a few years and buy the complete game for cheap and you wont be upset.

the graphics are a little dated but not horrible, the dialog and movie style cutscenes are typical from Bioware and sometimes not great cough cough Dragon age 2, and some mass effects cough but they are pretty decent here and fully engaged me a couple times which doesnt happen often at my age.

I’ve played this for 178 hours. Obviously I love the game.

I definitely recommend being patient with the pacing of the game for the first chunk of it because the Hinterlands are just…a lot…but after that point the pace is a lot better and the story definitely held my attention. As always with Dragon Age games I love the humor and the characters (especially Varric who remains a permanent party member at all times.)

I do have to say that it’s definitely a good idea to grind out side quests in order to make sure you’re properly leveled up for each big story mission but the good thing about the side quests is that most of them are fairly fun and interesting and they aren’t all just the same fetch quest over and over again. And even when they are a “fetch quest” they’re at least not a complete copy of whatever other fetch quest you may have previously done.

All in all a very good game, especially for its price.

You basically play a big campaign within a world that seems to be far bigger than what you see. And even if there aren‘t a lot of areas, there‘s much to see and you are getting rewarded for exploring.

You play 6 different characters, which you can interchange within battle. Every characters has a unique set of skills, while there‘s still room for customization by using scrolls, that give them additional skills or attributes. You find the scrolls by exploring or doing side-quests.

Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen

Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen

This game is one of the most memorable western fantasy games I’ve ever played. And that’s saying something because it’s from Japan. Of course the reason is because this game is a love letter to the late Kintaro Miura, one of the most epic western fantasy writers/illustrators if our modern day. If you are a fan of Berserk comic series (manga) you will see his aesthetic, style, atmosphere and tone in this game. It is stylistically beautiful and I love the authentic feel of how everyone in the world speaks. There is no break in immersion with an American accent lazily thrown in. And even it’s European accents have an older dialectical feel with the words they use like, “T’is, Aught, Meager, etc…” wich feels good.

So DDDA plays like a lot of other Capcom games in combat rolling etc, which in my book is a big plus. Feels gritty, meaningful, and downright satisfying.

The class system is fairly in depth with all 3 quintessential roles and hybrids of each, which each present rather unique challenges depending on the foe.

Whilst somewhat dated now, this game still holds it’s own and delivers a timeless and original story whilst promoting character progression, and the attaining of knowledge for the enemies you will face, because some of them hurt. A lot.

Faery - Legends of Avalon

Faery - Legends of Avalon

I would not get it just for myself, but I did really like some aspects of it would definately reccomend this game for younger players as a gentle introduction to open(ish) world RPG/adventures. With the turn-based combat, it plays a bit like a later Final Fantasy game, but simpler, smaller, and with less mature themes. Also, most of the play is simple enough that kids shouldn’t need a lot of help/coaching to make progress.

Liked- Pretty detailed character customazation. My kids love to just load the game up and build a new fairy. Your skill choices alter your character’s physical appearance, and gameplay is forgiving enough that you don’t have to metagame at all to keep up with the difficulty. So you can pick the abilities just cuz they look neat on your character.

–—TL;DR—– at bottom.

I did everything I could/knew to do except: missed out on some dialogue (especially between the companions - so much), left no more than 4 locations undiscovered throughout the 3 Mirrors (and I combed every World, damn), locked myself out of helping those in the poor district of the last world (grew tired of bein' called a goody-goody so I challenged ‘em and yeah, 3 side missions I failed because of me merc’in ‘em).

10 Hours Straight. It was awesommmme.

Any time I’ve ever heard the term “guilty pleasure,” I’ve always associated it with certain females who, at times, indulge in, say, chocolate. Thus, I’ve never had a guilty pleasure of my own. Faery - Legends of Avalon is my first blatant guilty pleasure [unless a sequel is eventually made… ;( ]. I plan to play through this game at least twice more, even though my first run-through was on Hard and there’s no point in going again, other than for my own entertainment – thethethethethe game is just too fun and awesome.
