The Unexpected Quest

The Unexpected Quest

Note well: this is not really a combat game. If you’re looking for hack-and-slash, try elsewhere. This is a puzzle/strategy game, with resource collecting an essential feature. Yes, you fight monsters, but it’s not complicated; it isn’t meant to be. It’s your strategic abilities that come into play here above all; analysing each level for priorities is important, and so is deciding how to use your resources.

That said, I really like the cute characters and their quest against oddly comic undead. I love the strategic gameplay–for everyone who said ‘this is too easy’, there’s someone like me who prefers it on a more laidback level than (e.g.) Dark Souls!

Information / Review English

Andalia combines the game styles of strategy and real-time strategy game, which was developed by Joel St.

Gameplay / Story

In terms of time, the game is set in antiquity and has similarities to the successful Age of Empires. At the beginning of the game you have a main castle, town hall and a farm at your disposal, which is the starting point for building up the further economy. More residents have to be created quickly, who now erect buildings in order to be able to grow and mine various resources: food, wood and other resources. Combat units can be created in some buildings, while technologies can be researched in others. Towers and walls can be built for defense. There are a total of 5 factions, which are divided into Academy, Zikkuart, Refuge, Bastion and Castle. These differ in terms of different unit types and buildings.A game is won by default by defeating all opponents, some of whom are well hidden on the map and can also be found in the underworld.

Majesty Gold HD

Majesty Gold HD

Majesty is a beloved childhood game of mine. Which I originally received as the pack in during Kellog’s Nutrigrain’s video game pack around 2001 or 2002.

The game is a hybird RTS / Godsim originally released in 2000 with it’s main innovation being the independent charather AI.

The player can directly control the construction of buildings, as normal for the genre, but all of the “heros” move on their own and cannot be given orders. Instead, they all have behaviour patterns based on their class, which lets them simulate a personality. Warriors like to hunt monsters, Rangers like to explore, and Monks like to act as hotel inspectors, wandering from inn to inn.

Majesty Gold HD is an unusual game with an unusual history.

While it’s billed as a Fantasy Kingdom Sim, Majesty has most of the trappings of a conventional RTS. However, it does stray from RTS convention in one major aspect and that was enough for its developer, Cyberlore Studios, to have considerable difficulty finding a publisher even during the great RTS glut of the 90s.

To fully appreciate Majesty, you need to talk about RTSes in general. Now, the term Real-Time Strategy itself is a little generic – Crusader Kings II, for instance, is real-time and it is a strategy game but no one would confuse it for an RTS. When gamers use the term, they’re referring to very specific types of games – games like Blizzard’s Warcraft II and Westwood’s Command & Conquer, the two titles released in 1995 that inspired the RTS glut.

Age of Darkness: Final Stand

Age of Darkness: Final Stand

This game is simply a amazing and addictive game for RTS and tactical RTS gamers. By default, there is a pause feature allows you to queue unit actions, building construction, and tech research. You start with a small group of units and a hero. From there, you need to explore, expand, and exploit the land in order to survive waves of nightmares that attack from large dark crystals during death night at which you will suffer a malice during the night. If you survive, you may choose a blessing that will be with you the rest of the match. There are five death nights, and a final stand. The final stand on the highest difficulty is 80k enemies that attack from all the dark crystals. You have ranged, melee, and siege units at your disposal, as well as ballista towers, and flame bellow towers. Your economy management consists of farms to produce food for villagers, which in turn are used for housing income, and resource collection building, as well as units. Your units have a tech tree you can utilize to offers advancement as well. A green fog encroaches the land on death nights, which cannot be removed without building vision, or you survive the death night. Enemies vary from crawlers, slow, weak, but can be a challenge in number, to giant hulking crushers with massive hp and damage.

The Gameplay

Picture this scenario:

The days go by while you’re out exploring the map and expanding your base while those blue dots turn into red dots… one… by… one… And on the last day now with only 4 minutes on the clock you realize that the enemies are attacking from the worst possible spot.

You scramble together some defenses and you’re happy with the towers, their placement but you’re a bit short on the wall department but you’ve got 15 units guarding in front so it’s gonna be fine… Right?

KeeperRL

KeeperRL

For the developer of KeeperRL thanks for making a great game.

My impressions from playing the game about 1 ~ 2 years ago versus today (I haven’t played for 1-2 years waiting for the game to be finished but recently played it again).

Rating 1~2 years ago: 9/10

Sandbox dungeon keeper freaking awesome and satisfying exploration and village pillaging.

Powerful and fun spells that allow you to mess with the NPC’s and dominate the map.

Left feeling satisfied when you close the game because you felt like a powerful warlock/wizard dungeon keeper.

Real player with 119.1 hrs in game

KeeperRL at it’s very base is a Roguelike, in which you take on the role of a “Keeper”, who’s job is to build a dungeon and maintain it, all the while encouraging monsters to come to your dungeon. There’s a handful of monsters and they all fill a role.

People have been comparing it to stuff, such as Dwarf Fortress and while I can see how it’d be easy to compare KeeperRL to that game, the reality is, it’s not nearly as deep, complex or polished as Dwarf Fortress; it’s no comparison at all. This statement still stands even after a the updates given to the game.

Age Of Omens

Age Of Omens

Normally as Things go I will update my reviews, so keep posted if your interested on where the game is kind of at.

So quick things is the game is great, It’s early stage yes, There is however a satisfying amount of area to explore, lots of crafting options, and a rather nice building system, I have played a large sum of games with building, and this one does it very well.

The Dev is constantly updating the game, bringing fixes and new content, It’s single/multi I haven’t actually made a multiplayer game, I am fine being alone….

This developer has big plans for this game and eventually a sequel, so he is not going to cut and run on us like most EA title developers do (I flat out asked him). He is very responsive on discord and takes everything we the players say seriously, I asked for a longer day cycle and he put it in a patch with some other things literally 30 minutes later.

This is an EA title that is worth your time, money and support, I can’t wait to see what more is in store for Age of Omens. Updates and content come at a brisk pace for just one person and he is in the process of hiring more help. Give it a try, I’m so glad I took a chance even after being burned by so many other EA titles.

Majesty 2

Majesty 2

Ive owned this game 6 years, and having just finished another play-through i thought it time to write a review :p

I return to this game often. it is one of the best RTS ever imo. The twist of only being able to indirectly influence your “units” (via a flag system of rewards that you have to pay for) makes it refreshing and stand out from the pack. Replayability is immense due to the randomise set-up option. Your units are heros (individual archers, warriors, mages, healers etc) that level and gear up as you progress through any given mission. You can also carry over up to 3 of them to subsequent missions. Once you research the prerequisite you can organise them into parties of up to 4 individuals (i use classic tank/healer/2xdps). The game looks beautiful, plays smooth and bug-free, and never fails to satisfy. The voice acting is extemely well acted and the lines well-written and amusing.

This game is quite simply an insult to fans who loved the original majesty (including me), i loved majesty 1 when my parents got it in the Winter of 2003 (oh so many years ago), it was one of those games that was one of the memories of my childhood. But enough of that, lets get to why this game is atrocious compared to the original Majesty.

Paradoks decided apprantly that instead of developing this game themselves, they outsourced it to 1C, a company in Moscow that i guess have no idea what made the original so good. So what did 1C, (and Paradoks) screw up that made this game inferior to Majesty 1? the list is too long, but i will list the 3 biggest problems with majesty 2 with a paragraph for the first two problems, and a short summary for the third.
