Magnificent Ships: Volume 1

Magnificent Ships: Volume 1

Nice Experience, Would Love a Snap-Turn

Played on Oculus Rift CV1 with Touch controllers. I don’t have a particular interest in ships or maritime history, so I was reluctant to pick this up. Since I like casual VR experiences, and all the reviews are positive, I thought I’d give this one a try. I purchased a bundle (Volumes 1 and 2). The wave effects and time of day changes are excellent. I wouldn’t mind a little more resolution on some of the ship textures, but they still look good. I have really enjoyed watching the sunrise and sunset from several of the ships. I also had fun playing with the model ships in the park.

From the same people who brought you “VROOM: GALLEON”, this is essentially just a detailed 3D model of various ships with some added effects. Spending $10 on it might be a bit much since there’s no game here, but each ship is pretty well modeled (on the exterior anyway) and you can even go below the water level to get a look at the hull, rudder and propellers/screws.

You get 6 ships to choose from: a 16th century pirate ship (much like VROOM: Galleon), an Oil Tanker, a Navy Submarine, Iowa class battleship, a Zumwalt class Destroyer, and the Queen Mary 1. Some of the textures could use some work, but overall it’s still pretty neat.

World Ship Simulator

World Ship Simulator

This is an early access game and nowhere near finished. Fair enough. The devs are promising more ships, missions, career mode and possibly free roam.

However, the game needs some very fundamental changes to the core. The graphics are very amateurish and, in the case of the scenes at port where one is trying to choose a mission, the whole thing looks like something from the 1990’s. The NPC’s look like something a child would create, the colours are all wrong and are too vibrant. The port area is excrutiating to look at.

First of all, it has to be said, this game is already a massive improvement on it’s infamous predecesor….. that said, you can tell this is in early access stage, ok let’s start with the bad….

-The night sky- This has no depth. I honestly think my grandmother could do a better job using MS paint and she can’t even use a Nokia 3310!

  • Land bird noises out at sea- I know this may sound petty, but really, whenever I have been out at sea (7 ferry journeys this year) I have not seen a single land bird. I understand they migrate twice a year, however, definitely see a lot more Gulls than I see Robins this is for sure

Capsa

So 320 hours of gameplay, met many super nice folks, visited all areas multiple times (Map is huge). Super stoked i gave this game a shot upon release!

Developers are really friendly and work really hard, updates have been frequent, sometimes daily depending on what theyre working on. Lots of exciting things to come in the future of Capsa, but need to give them time. Just 2 developers and the game hasn’t been out long at all. Lots has changed from the short amount of time it has been released.

So far I have spent like 32 hours in Capsa and not one minute was boring.

Even if the community is still small it is growing, but you can easily spend hours exploring by yourself.

I didn’t even visit all of the islands yet, but found a marvellous place for my home…just imagine a house directly on a beach with your own mooring to the right there is a romantic looking lighthouse and I can listen to my favorite music while dancing with a friend or simply gazing at the sunset!

When I feel like going somewhere else I can choose between a boat, a horse or a buggy to go wherever I please in this huge open world.

Similar Experience to Volume 1- I Liked It, but I Still Want a Snap-Turn

I just posted my review below verbatim from what I wrote for volume 1. Essentially, I felt that the pluses and minus are the same.

One of those games that confirms what I’ve always thought… If I like the basic gameplay, then I’ll keep on returning to that game. I find this game addictive. Apart from one game to try it, I haven’t bothered with the Classic mode. I just play Commanders.

Including the DLC there are seven commanders and eight maps (eight including the classic square map). Each commander has the same three special abilities (Mine, Sonar, Bomb), plus one ability unique to that commander. To use those abilities you need points. You automatically gain two points at the start of each round, plus one point for each occasion one of your ships is struck by your opponent. Each commander has some differently shaped ships. The game keeps a record of your stats., and there are always missions (eg Win two games in a row) that allow you to level up. Levelling up doesn’t actually change the gameplay in any way, but it is something else to aim for.

Well im not going to do a proper reveiw for this only pros and cons butt

Its pretty good like evreything seems super outdated and no online rly but if you have family and freinds with you or remote play with someone its good

Pros & Cons

❌ Graphics: they look 20 years old

❌ SinglePlayer: Bots are shit

✅ Multiplayer: Great to play with freinds

✅ Gameplay: Its just battleships we all know it

but yeah a short review if you have ppl living with you during covid get this or you can remote play ✅

Really nice, classic game to play with friends. It doesn’t get bored because there are so many customizations that you can add and goof around with a opponent.

The best part for me is the ability to get rewarded with a special weapon during fight, it can really change the outcome of the game.

Overall really nice, smooth, short game that everyone knows how to play.

Big Breezy Boat - Relaxing Sailing

Big Breezy Boat - Relaxing Sailing

This combined with its companion “VR Regatta” takes me back to the days when I could get in a boat and handle sails.

This is very immersive and will help everyone with any interest in sailing

The devs are responsive, and the community is great BUT these products are only for VR so be warned

Most of my time has been spent in the dinghy, just getting the feel of a much bigger boat

Fun game, great artwork, very satisfying to complete. I just wish the interface were a bit more responsive.

A good game like the others in the series. Simple mechanics, with a relaxed atmosphere, but this time with pirate themes.

Definitely an essential item for the hidden shapes collection.

Merchants of the Caribbean

Merchants of the Caribbean

Very enjoyable though some levels were very challenging. It’s like many point and click time management games, but requires a lot more strategy, which was a really nice change of pace!

Real player with 19.7 hrs in game

Fun little time management game with mini games. You go to each island and gather resources and disable totems with objectives to complete and all in a time limit.

Then the mini games : one is you on ship and pirate ship has come and you have to shoot cannons and repair ship at same time, if pirate damage bar goes to zero - you win, if you run out of energy - pirates win (you get energy from repairing the holes the pirate ship makes - but you do run out of repair materials at some point) and at same time the pirate ship throws ropes with anchors on your ship and little men with bombs walk over. if that bomb goes off on your ship , you lose.
