Story contradicts itself twice halfway through, and the lore is inaccurate I wouldn’t bother playing it.

Touhou Kikamu ~ Elegant Impermanence of Sakura
Another great Touhou fangame for us to enjoy in these quarantine times.
Art and Visuals: 8/10
Portraits are a bit inconsistent style-wise, and have a very European doll-looking look. which might not be for everyone.
Additionally, sound effects could be more diversified (the same sound is used for bomb extends, life extends, capturing spells, and filling up the combo counter.
System: 9/10
The scoring system is really creative, and centers around dyeing enemies and holding your fire for the exact right moments. The -1 is because of its relatively limited use during boss battles (due to a lack of enemies to dye), but it’s still really good and creative.

EIoS is probably my favorite Touhou game of all. The mechanics are fun and reward skillful play, it’s graphically and aurally a treat, and the difficulty scales really well leaving almost everyone with a mode that can be played.
Note: The game starts in Chinese. When you first start it, move the menu left a few times and you should see a settings menu (with English in parenthesis), inside is a language menu where you can select English, German, French, or Japanese along with Chinese.
There are three pairs of characters, which like Imperishable Night, has a human unfocused and a youkai focused. Each character in the pair has their own speed, shot type, and bomb type. The human will hit “elite” foes (those with healthbars and auras), but will not hit weak foes that generally die in one hit (“popcorn”). The youkai will hit popcorn, but will not hit most foes with auras. Both members of a team are able to hit bosses.

神社的百合香 ~ Floral Aroma in the Shrine
A very beautiful and touching game. The story felt very fluid and smooth and the characters were very well portrayed. Music was amazing, kept the mood right where it needed to be at the right time.
Only insignificant issue was the achievements didn’t work for me, which sucks a ton (perhaps because of the updates or something, seems like everyone a few months back had it working)
Other than that 10/10 you should play it! losing a buck doesn’t hurt ya at all anyways

神社的百合香 ~ Floral Aroma in the Shrine is an RPGMaker story game about two characters presumably from the Touhou series named Reimu and Marisa.
Reimu and Marisa live together in a shrine and this story follows them as their relationship grows and becomes something more than friendship. It’s a very short story ― I finished it in about an hour and a half ― so I can’t reveal much without spoiling it, but I can say that the story was pretty solid for such a short amount of time. What I liked was how much time was given to flesh out Marisa and Reimu’s relationship. Despite having very little knowledge and experience with Touhou, I felt like these characters actually had a longtime friendship, and I appreciate that.

Remyadry
The main negative for this game is that you absolutely must have a mouse wheel to adjust your stats / settings / in game things. You cannot define this to, say, any keyboard input.
Beyond that, the game is a fairly simple dungeon crawl. On average, the best classes are Knight, Idol, Shooter, Healer, and Mage. Samurai is good for killing the FOE battles, but does not have high stat growth, and seems much weaker than other classes. Warrior’s weapons seem to be statistically worse than other weapons, and most of their passive buffs seem weak compared to the Idol dances or the Knight’s shielding abilities. While a Scout is good for traps, and I ran a high crit Scout for most of the game, the weapons didn’t seem to do enough damage and the low health got annoying when enemies started doing a lot of instant death moves.

I’ve started nicknaming Remyadry “Auto-battle the RPG”. Interactivity in the encounters is fairly low in so far that you can’t give your characters direct combat orders. They may or may not use the special abilities you’ve assigned to them depending on luck and a cooldown system. The only inputs you can make are whether to flee or keep fighting between rounds and which of the three rows of enemies should be targeted. Later on, the strategic value rises a little when you can switch in reserve characters that you’ve class-linked with specific members of your team.

Touhou Fan-made Virtual Autography
The earlygame / free demo didn’t really have me sold on this game, but later on it gets REALLY good. It takes a moment, but it seriously grows on you. Would highly recommend, probably my favorite shmup overall currently.

Yes, the gimmick is stupidly unbalanced.
Yes, it would be nice to have a scoring system.
But I still like this game. It has good patterns, and good soundtrack. The two things most important to a Touhou game. It also has some slight details which I appreciate, most notably limited progression on the boss music during dialogue in stage 4 and 5, as well as
! the midboss segment of the stage 5 theme having different instruments depending on the character you’re fighting.
Oh, and if you’re playing the demo, the diagonal movement thing is fixed in the full version, in case you were worried about that.

TouHou Makuka Sai ~ Fantastic Danmaku Festival Part II
It’s billed as a homage to Touhou 7, but this game stands out for more than its ability to simply recreate a classic, delivering an excellent STG that stands on its own.
Its mechanics are founded on a slightly modified version of Touhou 7’s border system, in which periods of immunity granted through pickups and bullet grazing can have their duration extended by continuing to graze bullets or grabbing pickups. This mechanic is also how the game distributes extra bomb and life pieces, with longer borders providing increased rewards.

–-{ Graphics }—
☑ Beautiful
☐ Good
☐ Bad
- The graphics on this game are not AAA title level, and really it shouldn’t be expected. However, what really made this game standout is that … it’s absolutely beautiful. The stage backgrounds, the character sprites, the enemy sprites, animated spell card sprites and even the Danmaku and patterns itself are some of the prettiest I’ve seen among Touhou fan games, and actually, I’d even go as far as saying it beats even ZUN’s own mainline games in this aspect. I don’t know how the team managed to churn out such an aesthetically pleasing danmaku game, but they sure as hell did it. I’d also like to specially mention some of the things I thought were extremely outstanding in terms of graphics: Stage 4 in general, Alice’s patterns in general and Yuyuko’s patterns in general (also, her dancing spins while she throws out danmaku were nothing short of awesome!)

TouHou Nil Soul
A truly amazing fangame. Now that it has been translated into english, it would be a shame to not give it a try if you like Touhou or turn-based tactics (or both!).
Art is great : character sprites and models are well polished and nice to look at.
Music, as in any Touhou games, official or not, is really important. The team behind this game made great effort to adapt our favorite TH6 : Embodiment of the Scarlet Devil into modern remixes and it really sounds great. I’d definitely get the soundtrack for my personal playlist if I could get my hand on it. It’s that good (for those who played it, I’m talking “Fantastic Danmaku Festival” quality level in terms of music)

I like the remake of EoSD. I never would have thought a bullet hell would come to turn-based combat.

Touhou Shoujo Tale of Beautiful Memories / 東方少女綺想譚
To summarize: The game boasts just as massive a cast as the Touhou series itself, faithfully bringing to life both the over a hundred characters and expansive world of Gensokyo in ways that no other Touhou fangame I have played has. The gameplay is fun and has tons of content to offer, though the music, while being decent, has no tracks from the Touhou series itself, which feels a bit off. The designs of the characters can be offputting, but the dialogue and interactions between characters carry no references to them or anything inappropriate, focusing instead on the characters and humorous interactions. I highly, highly recommend it to any Touhou fan.

I’m still far away from completing it, but for these first hours, Touhou Shoujo Tale of Beautiful Memories has been incredibly charming. It’s a turn-based RPG with action inputs to gain advantages in attack and defense. Super Mario RPG meets Touhou, if it wasn’t obvious from the trailer video.
Strategically, it’s not an exceptionally complicated RPG (yet), it definitely doesn’t steamroll the unitiated like Labyrinth of Touhou 2 or Genius of Sappheiros would in the first few hours. Your tactics do matter, but I’m only expecting it to stay moderately hard.

东方试闻广纪 ~ Perfect Memento of Touhou Question
It’s pretty nice, you can test your knowledge of touhou lore and probably find new things.
But some questions need to be more specific or separated in two, for example:
there’s a question about Oni’s being afraid of fried beans, which is their weakness but doesn’t mean they are afraid of it, in WaHH Suika wanted the humans to shoo her away with them and almost cried when people didn’t do it, Remilia thought setsubun looked fun but got hurt and banned it from the mansion (tho if it was actually because of the beans or because they were hot is still unknown), but that doesn’t mean she’s afraid of them either.

clarste, eat your heart out.
Some stuff I remembered differently:
Yuyuko didn’t throw those petals to cause Spring, she was in fact stealing it from Gensoukyou to cause Saigyou Ayakashi to bloom. The petals were a byproduct of blooming cherry trees in the Netherworld.
In the BAiJR article, Aya mistakenly attributes the falling petals to the people of Tenkai having lavish parties.
Iku strongly dislikes Tenko and the Hinanawi for causing so much trouble and her more work, so it’s not exactly a “passing” relationship. Tenko however barely manages to recognize her as a person.

東方逆妙乱 ~ Ephemeral Unnatural Balance
Positives:
-
Very cute art (shaded pastel style)
-
Decent enough music
-
Interesting system
that being said, I feel like the balancing is kind of wack. The Discord system is great when you’re in a difficulty you have completely mastered, but if you dare to reach a bit above your comfort zone, it’s an absolute beatdown. Especially late in the game, you have almost no opportunity to activate Discord since it’ll just immediately kill you, wiping out any progress you had on the meter (if this were changed, I’d like it a lot more). I also didn’t feel the need for an overdramatic resurrection butterfly ripoff.

From what I’ve played so far I have pretty much nothing but praise for this game. Honestly it’s better than most of the main Touhou games. It avoids every typical fangame gripe I can think of: stage design is good, systems are good, visual clarity is good. Most importantly it’s determined to be a Touhou fan GAME rather than a Touhou FAN game, and most of its fanservice is based around things recognizable and enjoyable from the games themselves instead of Alice xx Marisa UwU or whatever.
Many of the patterns and spellcards are remixed versions of ZUN’s ones, but the developers seem to have a good feel for how to keep the fun parts without the annoying ones. Nothing is flashy to the point of being nonfunctional and so far I haven’t encountered anything that felt like total bullshit. Lasers and attacks coming from weird directions all have warnings on them so you’re not caught blind. The stages feel like a big melting pot of the styles and identities of different games in the series plus some original stuff and it just works well.
