Airscape - The Fall of Gravity

Airscape - The Fall of Gravity

Airscape: The Fall of Gravity is an action platformer game about an octopus lost in a strange and dangerous world, where regular laws of gravity simply don’t apply, and it’s sure to attain decent amount of attention from platformer genre fans. This indie title was developed by students from around the world, and its simple premise allows for the focus to be solely on the gameplay, rather than the story of a platformer game that really doesn’t need one.

When you hit solid ground for the first time, after a some kind of a movement tutorial, the feeling is surprisingly familiar. As you may guess, you don’t stay there for too long. Soon enough you start floating around and defying the laws of gravity. Your little octopus is able to sprint, run and jump its way around the level, and even backtrack or spin around itself in all possible directions.

I first came across Airscape when I volunteered to help test Linux builds. Without being aware that the game had won Best Use of Game Physics in Intel’s Level Up competition and was selected to be showcased at GDC, PAX Australia, PAX East, PAX Prime, and the Boston Festival of Indie Games, my initial impressions were that it would be a widely loved game.

I assumed that its gorgeous graphics, orchestral soundtrack and cute characters would bring people in, and its difficulty curve would make sure it would be offering players months and years' worth of well designed challenges to explore.

This game is a breath of fresh air to me mainly because of its controls. It’s been a long time since I’ve played something similar and while flying around needed a little time for me to get used to, it was fun to learn and after I got used to it, became second nature.

At first you only have a traditional fast-firing but low-damage weapon, but trust me, it’s worth progressing - you’ll have a whole arsenal of weapons to choose from before you know it, and prioritize according to your situation and preferences. When you master it, you can even figure out some tricky combos that are satisfying to pull off, such as when using the boost jump and the rocket in quick succession, it’ll fly quicker than the minigun pellets. Deciding on which upgrades to spend your currencies on is a fun way to customize your things.

Surprisingly entertaining.

I play with keyboard and it is a little clunky but the fights are very enjoyable even without controller.

The story-bits do not make too much sense, the thrill of toip-down-asteroid/souls-likey fights and traps, the great music and the stylish/functional graphics make this game a worthy one.

Should be a great purchase eveb with the full price tag.

(I got 25% off)

I had 2 minor issues with the game, a tiny bug of missing text and a clear way to see which part of my ship is forward.

One Pixel TWB

One Pixel TWB

2D platform game with minimalist graphics in Pixel art, your goal is to climb the castle while defeating various bosses that try to prevent your passage. With each floor you pass the game will present you with increasingly difficult bosses to defeat, add this to dialogs that portray the history of this universe and an extremely difficult difficulty for the vast majority of people.

To defeat these bosses you have the following abilities:

  • Create Platforms Underneath You.

  • Shoot.

  • Dash.

  • Jump and Duck

  • 2d Movement.

The graphics of the game has a focus mostly on the colors black, white, grayscale and red, in some parts of the game other colors may appear but are almost null.

During the game you follow the point of view of the White Pixel who is having his city attacked, you as a good emperor must stop the enemy and if you have a thirst for knowledge can try to find out what caused all this chaos.

One Pixel The War Begins is our second game presenting this very interesting universe of Pixels, unlike its older brother this game has a much wider variety of Phases, mechanics, Enhancements, Characters and more.

Also the soundtrack of the game is absolutely original of us.

Star Witch

Star Witch

‘Star Witch’ is an Oculus Rift Only action shooter that for some reason doesn’t work on the Oculus Rift. In fact, the frame rate is so low this game is pretty much unplayable and definitely so nauseating that you wouldn’t want to play it anyway. It seems to be a poorly made shooter with some of the worse voice acting you will ever hear. I know £3.99 isn’t a very big asking price, but asking anything for this at the moment is asking too much, avoid this for now until it gets fixed. Latest Review:

I’ve been playing the game on the easier difficulty and it has been fun.

I really like the art between battles. The art in battles is kind of good too.

The gameplay improved with the last update and I’m not dying instantly now.

I think what the game needs more is to be more polished in general. It’s a pretty cool concept and the execution is not bad, but needs more polishing.

I hope the devs can keep improving it, because I think the game is something special.

For now I give it a 3.5 of 5 stars.

Stellar Interface

Stellar Interface

It’s a rogue-like (permadeath, mild persistent progression, large in-run progression) shmup, with synergies of the same caliber of Isaac. Really cool items that change the run significantly, such as Mitosis and Social Dronewinism, Mitosis doubling your drones, and Social Dronewinism doubling their shots, with a boost to their damage and fire rate to boot. Combine them, and every drone you get suddenly becomes a force to be reckoned with. Also, the music is incredible, ranging from end-game Kirby-esque songs (such as the song for Babushka) to Castlevania-esque music for the final area and boss. It also has only a single resource besides health to manage, called RAM, that determines what weapons you can equip at merchants, so no more being unable to find that one key or bomb or whatever. Finally, it has a variety of ships, ranging from the early ships that simply have bonuses for only equipping one type of weapon, to the endgame ships which have things like Myopia (the Proptosis equivalent) to only a single weapon slot, but drones that copy your weapons, as well as Mitosis. It’s really good.

I love this game. Everything from its art style to sound design and just its concept is great. A rogue like space shoot, but its random choices is what makes this unique. Each spaceship has a unique style as well as atributes like health, mobility, slots for how many weapons it can have on hand to use, and ram. Ram is the most important aspect since it matters on what can be selected from for weapon choices. The weapon sytles are missiles, torpedos, machine guns, and blasters. Depending how much ram is allocated from what spaceship was selected by will allow a random chance on how strong each type of weapon style to pick from for the slots provided. In addition, there are consumables which can help out in tight situations and act like a third weapon but only for a one time use; unless through killing enemies to build up charge for another use. There’s a possibility to obtain other consumables through completing a stage or refresh from a merchant interaction stage.
