OVERVIEW (A Walk Through The Universe)

OVERVIEW (A Walk Through The Universe)

Just bought this last night and dove right in, as ever since buying a VR system a couple of months ago I have wanted a “space exploration” simulator experience. I came across “Overview” by accident as I was looking for inexpensive VR games. I was a bit nervous about the purchase, given the mixed reviews, but it was on sale ($5) and so I figured the risk-to-reward ratio was acceptable.

Happily, I can report that I love “Overview.” Certainly there are some options I would love to see added, but for what this game is and has now, I think it is amazing. The flyover Saturn alone was worth the purchase, in my opinion.

I am reposting this from a review I wrote on Reddit last week: I saw the the title of Overview in the Steam Store and added it to my wish list a few weeks back. Most people may have heard about the overview effect that astronauts all share when they look down at the earth from so far away and it makes them realize how small we are in the grand scheme of things. So. when it was on sale recently I grabbed it and was excited to try it.

It’s basically a single sequence that lasts about 30 minutes with another explore our solar system feature as well (which is good but underwhelming if I’m honest). The sequence is the star of the show but it too starts s bit slow. At first I found myself a bit disappointed- sure the graphics were gorgeous but it just wasn’t thrilling to me-I wanted the earth to be bigger in my perspective. I was missing the point I suppose!

Honeycomb

Honeycomb

Day by day, technological progress changes not only the lives of people, but also the smallest life forms on our planet. In our project, we would like to direct your attention to a very important issue of our times - the extinction of wild bees, which despite their tiny size, has a huge impact on the entire Earth’s ecosystem.

Greetings explorer! You are going to spend quite some time in the laboratory - don’t forget to go on a research expedition into the unknown. A world full of exploration, building and crafting awaits you!

You are the last hope of Earthlings.

Research both flora and fauna - standard scanning is not enough. Explore the world of genetics and experiment with various possibilities to even create a new plant genera. Mutating plants and species promotes new raw material discoveries and blueprints. Experiment to master new technologies and settle your base in new environments.

This new world can be beautiful but dangerous as well - an undiscovered fruit or a contact with previously unknown, even the most innocuous-looking animals can provoke a disease, for which you’ll have to invent a cure. Some of them are tamable, some can only be feared and fled from - there is only one way to find out.

For optimal productivity, an explorer’s life has to be comfortable! Take care of your “workplace”, create the needed conditions by yourself and even decorate your base. Build drones, mobile laboratories, habitat, and research stations. Don’t stop there - create multiple stations in optimal locations, safety, weather or raw material wise, and ensure safe travel between them - hoverboard is the best way to start.

The planet stores the secret key that may help you in saving the earth and its inhabitants. Remember! It is up to you how you use that knowledge.

Very satisfying for an early access game. I have just a little over 24 hours into the game and highly recommend joining the discord to search for solutions/answers to some basic how-to’s in early game.

Like commented elsewhere, the gameplay is very raft-in-space. I like the story-line and blackbox gigs as the early access campaign pre-cursor. Good mechanics IMHO and I have yet to run into any serious bugs. In the current release there is a items-stop-spawning issue that is easily remedied by save-exit-load game.

Ok so Im gonna start off by saying, Yes this is LIKE Raft. we all know that raft has shaped the open world survival craft genre. but Remains has similarity’s to Desert Skies and subnautica and Void Train. i have spent 2 hour trying to decide if this game is just a lame reskin or a game all its own and im leaning twords the second option. I am glad that its only 6 buck cause there is not much content. but im very very happy with it so far and im eger for more updates. this is really gonna be a game to follow! now time for the negative……..and its 3 words, IN.GAME.TUTORIAL! there is not help on how to play the game! you just get dropped in and kinda have to figure it out on your own. if a basic tutorial was added it would clear up major struggles and confusion. but thats really my only issue. now that im done writing this imma go play this some more! Cheers!

This game/simulator is incredible and has me hooked. Breathtaking and it really gives me an idea of the scale of our universe. Worth x4 the price in my opinion but must be experienced in VR with a fast computer (mighty GPU) and it is very important to read the manual at the very least and learn the graphics settings and the other facets of this wonderful piece of software before you dive in to get the best experience…

This is a space wallpaper maker! You can take very stunning HD screenshots while exploring an entire universe. I love taking the time to get the perfect shot, adjusting gamma, brightness, the amount of stars you can see, type of lens flare, nebulous, gas giants, black holes! the list goes on and the possibilities are endless, if you are a space nerd get this game…game? it’s kinda a game, you can fly around in a ship too if you wanted and pretend your a space pirate or something.

EXPLORE SPACE

Be in command of your own space program, from rocket design to interplanetary travel and achieve your dream of cruising through the cosmos in your custom spacecraft.

In Spaceflight Simulator, you will get to engineer your rockets, plan launches and flights, attempt landings, deploy payloads and explore new worlds.

EASY-TO-PICK UP, HARD-TO-MASTER

You could be launching your first rocket within minutes, but landing it in one piece might be another story!

With so many parts to pick from, you will learn through trial and error how to build spacecrafts best adapted to each of your missions. You will have to master navigating through the Solar system and landing your vehicle on all the planets and moons, each with their own atmospheric and terrain conditions.

REAL-WORD PHYSICS

During the design phase, you will get to assemble your own launch vehicle from a wide variety of components and pair them with a multitude of engines, all modeled after their real-world counterparts. Each part possesses its own technical specifications (mass, aerodynamics, etc.) which will affect your rocket’s behavior.

All engines accurately model thrust and fuel consumption affecting how much payload you’ll be able to carry safely. You’ll be able to create multistage vehicles, control how they separate and when secondary burn occurs in order to achieve the optimal trajectory.

BUILD YOUR WORLD

Fuel your ambitions, launch satellites, build exploration rovers, space stations, multiple rockets into space. Your world is persistent and only your imagination is your limit.

Conquer the harsh conditions of the Solar system, travel long distances and build your presence in space throughout multiple missions.

PARTS, PARTS, PARTS

Each part is highly detailed and serves a particular purpose. They are all based on their real-world equivalent and allow you to recreate your favorite historical rocket.

● Fuel tanks (20 sizes and configurations)

● Engines and thrusters (6 propulsion systems and a reaction control system)

● Aerodynamics (13 fairings with many nose and side cones)

● Capsules, probes, payload systems, separators and docking ports

● Landing systems (legs, parachutes, wheels)

● Utilities (solar panels, batteries, electrical, structural)

Take On Mars

Notice: A lot of reviews are poor about this game because it is early access and people don’t bother to read that they’re buying an unfinished game. Actually READ what people have to say and don’t be taken in by metascores.

Notice: This is going to be detailed, so if your not into that skip to the next review, you have been warned!

Take on Mars - a game designed with a single purpose in mind - explore, and eventually colonize Mars.

Take On Mars - A Survival Game unlike any you’ve played. There are no enemies here except nature herself, but she a fierce one. Even without her Pets - Take on Mars is proof positive space travel is dangerous

SECOND REVIEW:

I am now updating this review to reflect the launch update and information that i found due to the comments made by Mr. Monochrome and INFIDEL in the comments below. I admit changes have been made and the game up to the point i have progressed to is working, that being said i still beleive this game needs alot more work in that the tutorials are incomplete as far as explaining all you need to know when it comes to the machines, the mission objectives are poorly worded and easily misinterpreted, and still no guidance in game on how to complete the unmanned missions and still make money. This game is frustrating and i personally believe that most gamers will lose interest due to this fact in very little time.
