Spire of Sorcery

Spire of Sorcery

A party strategy with its very own style and identity.

The graphics are nice and well designed, and the music is great. Hopefully they add more of it later.

The interface feels like it was designed by a madman that completely ignored everything we know about mainstream gaming interfaces, and just branched it into its own evolutionary path. On the other hand, many games today have an interface that looks nearly identical, and here it’s finally different and fresh.

The spell and combat system is incredibly deep and flexible. You need to adapt your spells to your party, and figure out how to effectively combine them with potions and the environment, and even with other spells and effects. This game greatly rewards experimentation and exploration. There are many insane combinations to discover, and every party requires a different strategy and resource management. A murderhobo group plays very differently from a group that has a pacifist in it.

A game where you control only mages! If you are tired of extremely generic fighters who smell of sweaty socks and too much ale, and you are a cultured scholar who appreciates basking under arcane arts and good books, then this game might be for you :P That was the reason for me to try demo, then game’s uniqueness made me buy it and keep on journey.

Honestly, even the idea of “controlling only mages” is already so exciting and engaging to me. Now I know that this game is mostly strategy and all but there’s an attempt right here so I must interfere… story is not very infused with the game itself, I’d personally expect more passages that would drag me in. Don’t know what the devs are planning on release, but a good background story would be a huge game changer in my opinion. People who like magical powers tend to care about these, no? If there’s such plan (yes this is a big issue of indie developers but) adding just one voice actor who is going to narrate the story would be very pleasant.

Curious Expedition

Curious Expedition

The Curious Expedition is yet another Kickstarter-spawned entry into the ever-growing field of Rogue-Likes, but with a refreshing new twist. This time around, the player takes on the role of a small party of 19th-Century explorers engaged in a gentleman’s wager - to travel the world on six concurrent expeditions, competing to see who can gain the most fame. It’s a fairly quick and lethal game, but that’s exactly what it’s meant to be - a good way to kill a few hours at a time, running expedition after expedition off to their doom.

The Short Pitch

TCE is one of the best games in its class, a Roguelike-inspired strategy/adventure game that will leave you wanting more. Easy enough to beat several times in one day if you’re dedicated, yet hard enough to make every victory feel like you clawed your way to it from the depths of hades.

If you’re looking at this game and you’re even half sure you want it, get it. If looking at it fills with you a warm and gooey sense of longing for the hours spent huddled around CRT monitors taking turns playing The Oregon Trail, buy it. Even if you’re a more modern gamer, but you’re a fan of FTL, Caves of Qud, the Binding of Isaac, or similar, buy it.

Would I recommend this game? Yes! But to be honest, there are just about as many cons as there are pros, but first I will go to why I love this game so much -

Pros:

What can I say? I love each new thing added into the game. Every time the dev adds anything in, it seems to liven up my map even more. Things like smoke, water, and flags in the cities will move, and add a bit more life to something basic.

You can view your map in multiple ways, from grids to old time maps to elevation levels.

Zen Landscape Editor

Zen Landscape Editor

A great game, relaxing and creative just like how it was promised. But there are some things that can be worked on to make it so much more amazing. For example, placing objects like bridges is really hard to get it where you want, but placing things like people is very smooth and easy. Trees are on sand like platform which kinda ruins the green of many islands. Most objects like the villages are red, but would be cool if you can customize the colors of the ships, people, and structures. Customized controls would be AMAZING, it allows everyone to have their own style. Finally, it is a bit hard to rotate the screen for me. M for mute does not work either.

This is sort of a non-working demo. Its to demonstrate the landscape editor for the game which is still being developed but God willing will be released soon. Hopefully this year. I’ve seen the demos and other information about the game, it is very good!

BUY THIS TO SUPPORT THE AUTHOR! ITS VERY GOOD!

Evergarden

Evergarden

While it might seem like a simple/basic (ie easy) puzzle game, it’s actually pretty complex and takes skill/time to keep moving forward to get a better score/complete the achievements. But, the sometimes frustration of doing poorly in the puzzle area is made up for by beautiful graphics, nice music/sounds, and a very peaceful/(yes I know it’s contradictory to say) relaxing bit of game play. Basically, it’s a wonderful game to both look at and play, while also being difficult enough to where you feel accomplished completing an achievement yet not hard enough to make any of them unobtainable with practice.

Options include separate sliders for Music and SFX, Full-screen and Quality.

If you cannot interact with the game (clicking does nothing), make sure that there isn’t anything pushing on your controller, and the problem should be fixed.

Story:

There is an understated story that ties everything loosely together, but I can’t tell you much about it without giving things away. We will find a couple of notes that help, including this one from the very beginning of the game:

I am surprised this game has not gained enough attention as I will have to spread the word out about this game.

Here is what I like about this game:

It has a very interesting Hero System meaning as you gain experience points you can spend experience points to improve a number of skills along with improving your main stats of your Hero like health, defense, attack, resist and moving around on the world map. It has at least 20-30 skills you can spend your experience on .

Other 4x games when you gain a level you get some increases based on that new level but in this game you spend your experience as you see fit so there really are no levels in this game so I think it is actually a better system.

4/5 STARS

⭐⭐⭐⭐★

Very interesting game with an unique concept : Try to survive and grow your empire while a tidal wave is coming .

As the map is shrinking, you have to manage both your empire and the fact that the map is in constant evolution.

You can’t just camp, upgrade and waiting for yours opponents .

The game needs some graphic improvement but it’s worth the money .

Good Game!!

It has a cool down mechanic similar to the game ‘Wartile’… you issue a command to a unit and there’s a meter that fills up for that action to happen. There are 4X like things in this game, from production, resources, tech research, military, and food. But unlike a typical 4X the time for things to happen is shortened a great deal, you’ll get to the late game within minutes. I’m looking forward to this game as the potential of being a singular person’s vision it can focus in on what it wants to accomplish.

This game is currently a bit rough around the edges, but with a bit of polishing could end up really great!

I recently bought this for the sense of exploration and finding secrets, as I love hidden object games and exploring, this game was a huge miss and a let down, while you can scale the world to any size you wish, the achievements aren’t working, settings in the game and the UI in general are unable to be interacted with, there’s a section of the menu that is a portion for achievements, like take a picture of a tree, tree context picture menu, it won’t update no matter if I favorite a picture, try to right click or left click a tree picture in the gallery, or taking a picture in general when the set task is on a tree, I’ve also posted in the forums for help, but no responses, game is dead, there is also a second game made by the same person, maybe it works, maybe it doesn’t, I wanted the opportunity to enjoy my exploration of secrets but it seems I can’t even do that

CULTURE TREE

The culture tree is where you discover religion, policies, and human interactions inside and outside of your tribe, the main purpose of the culture segment is to allow the player to shape the cultural development of the people. We worked on it to make it as real as real tribe’s decisions. You decide the roots of the culture of your community and what they are like when they advanced to settled life.

RESEARCH TREE

The research tree aims to help the player overcome the obstacles of the game by inventing new tools materials and crafting options. Research Tree is composed of six different categories inspired by historically correct ancient technologies. Our research tree consists six different categories, and six consecutive historic periods. You can become better in any category than others, like historic tribes.

TRIBE SCENE

The Tribe Scene gives you a close-up look at your tribe’s development. You can see the results of your tribe development on this screen. In addition to visuals, tribesmen and tribe states can be observed here. You can check if your tribe members are fed, feeling safe, and bound to the tribe socially. Otherwise, they may fight, steal or leave the tribe. Being a tribe doesn’t mean traveling and eating together, you have to live together and survive as a community.

MIGRATION MAP

While surviving against the wild, relentless nature of the last ice age; travel the vast landscape of the ancient earth. The ancient earth was geographically different than the earth we know today. The world was not like today at the last ice age, do you want to try to walk to America from Asia? Do you know Britain and japan weren’t islands at all…

Discover the ancient earth with your tribe.

HEXAGONAL MAP AND TACTICS

In the game, the player controls different clans of a tribe. These clans may gather food, hunt animals, make camp, or later in the game improve campsite with basic structures like tents and fences against wild animals. Our maps consist of hexagon tiles which is very useful for planning tactics for your clans.
