Slime Rancher

Slime Rancher

I think that this is my favourite game on steam. It is just so delightful and enjoyable to play. The style of the game is very casual while also always providing something for you to do. I have been playing the game since it was in early access (Jan 2016) and have enjoyed watching it develop over the years. I still get enjoyment out of playing the game now as there are so many different things that you can do and collect in the game.

11/10 can’t wait for Slime Rancher 2!

This game is so fun, when yo finally reach the end and you have a lot of slimes, it just turns into experimenting for what you should do. I’m also excited for the second game.

Falcon Age

Falcon Age

An entertaining birb hunting and robot smashing game.

Played in VR, and had a lot of fun playing with your falcon and going through the story.

There were some elements that seemed a bit unpolished, it feels like there was intended to be more to the story and setting that never came to fruition, was a bit short in that respect, and while it gives you different dialogue options it’s really unclear as to how much it really affects your playthrough or the ending (in some cases there is only one answer that lets you continue). Also, at least in VR it seemed difficult to be precise in moving objects with your electric whip, making one sidequest unnecessarily difficult - this may be easier outside of VR, but the feeling of being being -in- the world was hard to give up.

Note: I played this as the Desktop, Non-VR version. I don’t use VR, so I didn’t play that version.

I was keeping my eye on this game for a while, so I was so excited when it finally came to Steam! Because I was excited about it, I might be a bit biased.

Beautiful looking game! The only thing in this game that didn’t look good was, when you gave the falcon different colour feathers, their feathers looked a bit weird. Other than the feathers, everything looked good! The storyline was interesting and engaging, but short. It would have been nice to have a game like this have more gameplay in it. I normally don’t mind short games, but I really wish this one was longer, because it was so much fun!

Teacup

Teacup

Teacup is a wonderful and cute game suitable for children - I felt like a kid reading a storybook with my mom in this game! The art, music, and narrative design are all so beautifully put together. I received a review copy for Teacup and played it live on my stream: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1183536340 . It’s not my usual game, but the art attracted me to it.

However, I noticed some accessibility issues and a small settings section. Since this is a highly narrative-based game, I was hoping to see optional text options like changing text size (for those who have difficulty reading small font) and changing font styles (Open Dyslexic to be more accessible). I also noticed that it was only in fullscreen mode and this can be detrimental if the player has only one screen. It would be helpful to have text-to-speech available for players who are blind.

Teacup is a short and cute adventure game where you play as an introverted frog named Teacup who is about to host a tea party. Though shortly before doing so, realizes that she is currently short on tea and therefore must explore the forest where she meets the many characters around her as she collects what she needs for the party. The highlights of the game for me are both the visual artstyle of the game and the conversations that you have with the various residents of the forest.

IKEA VR Experience

IKEA VR Experience

Of all the early free experiences, this one holds up. They added a Christmas mode to it as well, that’s a good sign! I also don’t recall the stickie-buns from my first play-through, so that must be new as well. It renders well for a Unreal Engine game, maybe that’s my 970 1070 upgrade or engine improvements. I’ve played alot of VR architecture demos, and many more expansive areas to explore, but I don’t think I’ve seen one with this interactivity. There’s a fair bit of fun.

! I once got a free desk from IKEA because the one I had ordered had a slight scratch on it, but c’mon, y’all can buy one, and then photoshot that spit, and build the Mega-Desk(r) you know you deserve. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cpFx4ygIv9s

It’s so lifelike!

I only went in for a cheap desk lamp, but after 30 minutes of being shepherded through the store without stopping, I found my path blocked by a couple arguing over soft furnishings whilst their child threw a tantrum over getting a hotdog and an ice-cream. I went around them and wandered a little more (on rails as per the store layout) and eventually stopped for minute to look at some bedroom furniture however I realised that I am in fact not a giant and therefore do not have 16ft ceilings in my bedroom ergo they wouldn’t fit (BUGFIX: I think there may be scaling issues). Unfortunately, the couple had caught up with me and were still arguing only this time over the mans commitment to the shopping trip. The child was complaining that it needed to go to the toilet. As if by magic an NPC in a yellow polo neck T-Shirt appeared from behind a mirror (I think no-clip was left on by mistake) and started filling up a pencil dispenser but before anyone could ask the way to the restroom it vanished behind a stack of pillows. I then walked for another 10 minutes until I found the lamp section. I found one I liked but the bulbs were some weird triangle shape that I’d never seen before so I decided to wander round and see if one of the NPCs had any clues. I eventually found what appeared to be an enormous warehouse full of boxes. There was an old man bending to lift a flat-pack bunkbed while his wife looked round nervously with a “excuse me young man could you help” look on her face (the graphics are astonishing) … I decided to offer my help as I thought it might be a side-quest… Unfortunately, the box was slightly too big for the trolley so I had to help them all the way to the checkout while the old lady did more to make it fall off than help (she meant well). In a moment of sheer determination to finish the quest I decided to help them to the car. Sadly, I got distracted by the sound of a child screaming “BUT I DON’T LIKE STRAWBERRY SYRUP ON MY ICE-CREAM” at full volume followed by crying as I left the store and I forgot to ask the nearby NPC about the lamp. By the time I remembered, I was outside waiting for the old man (Collin) to fetch the car (BUG REPORT: the bollards have odd collision boxes that the trolley won’t fit through). It was a 1993 Nissan Micra. Even after removing the basket of knitting supplies, 1972 AA road atlas of Great Britain, and full tool set including kneeling pad from the boot; I realised the box wouldn’t fit. I tried everything as the old woman looked on expectantly but no luck. Sadly, we unboxed the item in a bid to make it fit (Nice Tetris clone mini-game) and it meant the item could not be returned so I had to restart the quest.

Sea of Roses

Sea of Roses

“you were in love and you were trusting. You didn’t know that things like that could happen in relationships”

This sentence made me cry, I needed to read it. Thank you.

I knew Jennifer Ann’s group and their games for several year and as usual this is a lovely gem. Some aspects seems simple, almost too “black and white”, but coming from a similar relationship after 12 years… Some scene were hurtful because they hit too close from home.

It is really nice to see these drawings, almost childish but full of love. The characters are “typical” but not cliché to the point of being annoying. You learn to love them and to see beauty in this world and yours.

Honestly, I played the demo and was interested and waiting for the game to come out on release expecting the price to be between £5-£10 and it’s free! I loved the game, and also the only game I completed every achievement, it’s short game, with really gorgeous art style and colours, with a meaningful story! with cute unique journal.. would recommend! :)

Shindig

Shindig

Hey there hoomin!

Tbh, the moment I started creating my character, the game had already got me. Not just because there are many (hair) styles you can choose from, but the developers really made an effort to make variety and diversity one of the integral components of this game. And as you can feel while playing, they were very successful in doing so.

The individual and lovable characters are the main reason for playing this charming game! They come to life through their different personal backgrounds, their relationships between one another and their different ways of speaking (which is evident thanks to the great voice acting). But most of all, these characters are damn funny! Playing this game really made me laugh out loud - a lot. That’s why Shindig is not necessarily a single player game. You can also play it together with your family or friends to enjoy the jokes all together. I did the latter and it was one of the most entertaining nights in months.

Gonna have ourselves a Shindig!!!

Bought this charmingly illustrated and voiced old-school Point and Click adventure for my nine year old daughter, but found myself drawn in to the cartoon world of Shindig too, so spent the next few hours playing it with her and we both thoroughly enjoyed the game.

I know she liked this game as she has been singing the catchy tunes ever since!

A really nice concept (who doesn’t love having a party?) with friendly and memorable characters. Would recommend for young and old gamers alike who are looking for a relaxing evenings gaming.

The Case Book of Arne

The Case Book of Arne

Speaking as someone who has a really hard time deciding on what RPG games are worth and not worth buying, this game immediately had me intrigued. The story is uniquely crafted and enjoyable, characters are charming with a healthy mix of humorous dialogue with many deep and emotional story beats tied into them as well. The Soundtrack is also one of the best I’ve heard for an RPG game in a long while! Only issue i had with it is the run-time of 6 hours. Can’t wait for the next installment when it comes!

Very fun game! Great characters, art, and the comedy and story is also top notch. I’m happy Playism got vgperson on as the translator as she did great justice on the translation! It was a very fun game to playthrough and I never wanted to put it down and stop! There was one bug I noticed with the timer not changing if you reload a save near the end of the game but it was easily remedied with a quit to title reload. Other than that one thing, I noticed no bugs, and I’ve played through the entire game.

Night Reverie

Night Reverie

Night Reverie is a beautiful and charming puzzle adventure with an underlying wistful vibe. Explore the surreal realm of dreams and wishes as you try to find your sister. The cute characters you meet along the way send you on numerous fetch missions as you progress through the story. Solve puzzles and play a couple of mini-games to help these characters in the hopes that they will know something about your sisters whereabouts.

This game is like candy for the senses. Each scene is a whimsical display of color and light while the music has a sweet vibe that subtly changes as you progress throughout the story.

It’s been a while since I played a game that genuinely made my cry…

Night Reverie is a wholesome, sweet and deep ride in a mysterious house filled with puzzles, nostalgic pixel art and that kind of music you save for later.

Beautiful pixel art style made with love. The color composition of the different levels of the game are in tune with a nostalgic and warm vibe, making you get in the mood for the experience the game has to offer.

The narrative is the most important aspect of the game, it has this wholesome style that will make you smile and laugh almost the whole game. But I promise you will get surprised.
