All Our Asias

All Our Asias

The game was quite surreal. I have gained some insight within the Asian community and addresses true feelings and doubts toward those who are mixed in race from Asia to America. Floating around the atmosphere felt interesting and intriguing, with an old PlayStation One style graphic to help set off the oddity. It’s a free too, so id day give it a try. There are a few things that could make the experience better but doesn’t set off the mood so I’d give it a 7/10.

The graphics are obviously supposed to be unintelligible but in a way gives the player a sense of what it’s supposed to be, as what PSX style is supposed to be. The environment is great, from simplistic looking geometry to image based texture. There are some places that are un-textured, but doesn’t ruin the experience and not that obvious to others who aren’t familiar with engines. I like the empty space, but I would like a bit more on the environment.

Aside from the price, I was intrigued by the title and the visuals. What would this free PS1-style title about multiple Asias be about?

Truth is, after reaching the end I’m still not entirely sure.

Don’t get me wrong, there is a premise and it’s a good one, but I’m not sure I get all the plot in the middle. I found this didn’t matter though as the script was a pleasure to read; it was good quality prose and there was just about the right amount of it.

I wouldn’t say the visuals suit, but I think in “All Our Asias”, the visuals aren’t that important. This is a game where the ethereal whistle of the soundtrack can be recalled many hours later and, I don’t the have the words for it, but the mood and tempo of the game is both melodic and melancholic at the same time.

Big Hops

Big Hops

What is Big Hops?

Big Hops is a fresh action-platformer about a friendly frog named Hop, who’s been stolen from home before he’s ready. On your mission to get Hop home for a real goodbye, you’ll explore 8 huge, colorful worlds and meet a charming cast of animal friends. As you go, you’ll find veggies and gadgets to help you explore, solve puzzles, and create chaos.

Hey, Chris here! I’m the director of Big Hops. I hope it’s OK if I get a bit meta here:

With Big Hops, we want to take a big step forward for 3D platformers and not spend much time retreading existing ground. This game is our answer to the question ‘What could 3D platformers be with deeper, freer movement and open ended, systemic item interaction?’

Deep Movement & Emergent Systems

Between familiar 3D platforming, fluid parkour, and fresh tongue mechanics, you have a lot of movement options as Hop! Once you learn the ropes, you’ll be able to get around VERY fast. Get ready to run, jump, climb, wall-run, dive-roll, tongue swing, hookshot, and much more!

On top of deep movement, we’ve also got a deep sandbox. As you explore Hops' many worlds, you’ll find loads of gadgets and veggies each with surprising and useful effects on the world. You’ll still be discovering new ways items can interact, even dozens of hours in.

Tongue-tastic!

It turns out adding a frog to a 3D platformer gives a lot of opportunity for fresh feeling tongue-focused gameplay! Aside from tasting veggies you can also use your tongue to:

  • Grab veggies and gadgets from afar

  • Activate contraptions and solve puzzles

  • Swing around, launch yourself, hookshot up walls, and more

A World of Animals

Across 8 huge, colorful worlds you’ll meet a charming cast of cute animal friends!

Alongside frogs, you’ll also find friendly rabbits, raccoons, gulls, otters, birds, geckos, bats, and more. Featuring adorable character designs by Steven Sugar.

Catsploration

Catsploration

You have lived nearly your entire life deep underground, watched over by a kind old man. However, it’s time to move forward. Rupert told you to seek out a being named Alvin, but he did not say why. Alvin loves to read and is likely to be found in the Library of Cats. Regardless of a reason, that sounds like a much nicer place to be than in these deep echoing tunnels. Let’s go!

Key Features

  • A character controller dense with abilities. You will have access to double, triple, and long jumps. You can leap upwards, jump off walls and dash forward with a variety of speeds.

  • As the pet of a wizard, you have access to many magical trinkets. Transform into a crow or light your way with a candle’s flame.

  • Difficult gameplay.

    Gameplay

Catsploration is a game where we explore digital heritage and creative commons works. As a cat. There aren’t many RPG elements yet, but I do hope to tell a story as I get further along with development. Although I hope this is something everyone can enjoy, I will definitely be focusing on the type of gameplay found in games like Mario64, A Hat in Time, ALTF4, and similar.

    Community

Well, there isn’t one, yet! This game is just getting started. I hope to launch into Early Access on April 1st. Please join my Discord if you’d like to give suggestions about new levels or new music to include, as long as it’s a creative commons work or from the public domain. Or, maybe you’d just like to say, “hi!”

Well… it’s something.

The game only has 5 “game modes” which consist of something non-sensical and boring, there isn’t really anything “relaxing” or satisfying about them. The music cannot be adjusted and is pretty loud. Honestly it just feels like a school project from 2005 done by two students that just served to be presented infront of a class and then forgotten. Definetly not worth the money, I got it from a steam gift

Eternal Cycle 永劫之环

Eternal Cycle 永劫之环

Game introduction:

“Eternal Cycle” tells the story of a protagonist who wakes up from a corroded cave, and finally finds and resolves the source of the cave’s corrosion. The game takes place in a cave corroded by alienated substances. Players experience the entire game flow by manipulating the protagonist who has awakened from the coffin.

The game is a bit like some other games such as little Nightmare series,Inside and limbo.

The protagonist has the ability to explore caves with various props. Throughout the process of exploration, the protagonist will escape from different monsters in search of survival. As the exploration continues, the protagonist will undergo some subtle changes.

Flower Challenge

Flower Challenge

Pros:You can collect flowersYou can enjoy natureYou can fly with the basketYou can eat flowers for psychedelic effectsCons:I was promised wolves but there weren’t anyI fell off the edge of the map and while falling down I let go of my basket. Now I’m sad.I have no collision with treesOverall I felt this could be a good basis for a horror game. Well, with actual wolves

Real player with 1.2 hrs in game

It’s pretty boring. The most fun I had is shooting up in the air by carrying the basket and looking down. I call it “basket boosting”.

Also, how does this cost 8,19€? For a lower price, it would maybe be fine if the dev would improve the game a lot, but it’s nowhere near worth this much.

Also also, this game toasts my PC. My RX 580 is suffering on every quality setting.

Henry’s Day

Henry’s Day

The story for this game is incredible and is most certainly the highlight of the game. This game does not hold your hand which can be good or bad depending on your preference. Personally I liked exploring the game world and finding the side quests and reading the little silly comments the characters would make.

There are some minor delays in the graphics when the game world would load in certain buildings or objects. I know the developer released a patch recently that addressed some of that so I am assuming they will continue to update the game.

Real player with 8.3 hrs in game

One thing i find interesting in this game is the lore. Although I’ve yet to complete this game at the time of this review, I’m eager to find out more about Henry and his whole situation. The concept of a repeating day is really neat, and having a time limit always seems to up the challenge. I’ll find myself getting into these conversations that Henry has as he meets new people, just to glance down at the time and say “crap! I’ve only got 30 seconds left in the day, and I got to find out whats gonna happen next.” Its a very neat game, and I feel it is worth the time I’ve already put in it.
