Flat Earth Simulator

Flat Earth Simulator

My first impressions were positive with a beautiful model, pleasant narration along soothing ambient music.

  • It would have been great to zoom in more and see cities mapped onto the model from high altitude photos.

  • The Sun and Moon are different sizes, they should be about the same.

  • The Sun and Moon orbits are locked.

  • No Moon phases or eclipses present.

  • No Tropic of Cancer or Tropic of Capricorn sun orbit paths for seasons.

  • Stars seem random rather than actual mapped stars along with correct movements over the plane.

Garbage.

No way to change display/sound settings in game, must quit and re-launch. No option to not have the really slow narrator read everything to you, instead you must mute it, hide the text, and then press space to open it with the full text visible for anyone who can read faster than a third grader, the text is poorly written with many grammatical mistakes and quirks that make it hard to understand, the information being presented raises more questions than it answers, and the clues that pop up every few minutes make no sense and don’t actually lead to anything.

Koma is a confusing, both in a bad and a good way.

First the game seems to have some optimisation issues. Even on my Ryzen 9 XT and Nvidia 2800 Super, I had some lags and micro freezes, usually when loading a new area.

Also, sometimes I felt some issues regarding of the usual rules of game design in the way to indicate you the path. Combined with the fact that you can glitch the camera trough the walls, and sometimes yourself, it result in situations where you don’t know exactly what you’re supposed to do or where to go. I completly understant the goal to make you feel lost in this strange world and I like that, but sometimes I just felt lost because of confusing game design. It reminded me it was a game and kinda breaked the illusion.

An excellent example of “easy to learn, difficult to master” gameplay.

You pilot a rocket-powered drone using only two buttons - one for each engine. The challenge comes from alternating, combining and timing the use of these engines to skilfully navigate through the various single player and multiplayer tracks competing for the best time.

The current amount of single player content isn’t spectacular, with only 4 tutorial levels and 6 other levels. However each level offers a bonus objective that can be challenging and adds to replayability.

TL; DR: A game with easy to learn but very difficult to master controls is bogged down with a dead multiplayer, a grindy XP and coin collecting system, and a very minimal amount of effort in singleplayer content (a grand total of 15 levels you will get nowhere near the top time on, some you won’t even be able to complete the extra “achievement challenge”, because they, too require a ton of grinding). There’s also microtransactions for coins but with a dead multiplayer I don’t really see the point of purchasing them.

While this game is tiny (the trailer honestly shows you most of the game) it’s stunningly pretty in a way you can’t quite define. Like other walking sims from the dev we are outside, this time in winter. Kind of like Bottle, but with a more upbeat tone and fresher graphics. It is short, especially if you use your right mouse button to act as a sort of heads up display and track down flowers and platforms quickly.

But there’s also a lot more to explore once you’ve checked all the achievements off your list. Honestly, yes, it’s short. I clocked in at 45 minutes, and I got terribly lost too. But it is also like Bottle in that you can make your own fun. Go back in and take a lovely walk in the gorgeous landscape. Let your worries go and just be.

In a similar vein to “Pluviophile”, it’s a nice looking environment, but with a number of strange design choices that mar its potential to be a nice peaceful walk.

To start, there are still, for some reason, flowers that you need to pick up and take to stone circles to open the path forward. There isn’t anything inherently interesting about the mechanic, so it just detracts from the experience by arbitrating certain places where you must go, making you less inclined to explore elsewhere on your own.

You roll five dice with each face having a japanese character for MA, O, CHI, N, U and KO and the objective is forming combinations that spell vulgar words such as UNKO, UNCHI, CHINKO, (O)MANKO and (O)CHINCHIN. When you roll a word you get another roll, if you roll 2 or more words you get extra dice for the next roll. You also get a “nudge” for each word you get, which lets you re-roll the dice that are in the bowl.

Combinations of three or more of the same face of the die also apply multipliers to your score, but avoid three or more ん because then the multiplier is negative! Unless you’re hunting for negative score achievements of course.

The aesthetic and environment, from the graphics to the sound, is really well made, which is a perfect foil to the fact that you’re trying to make dirty words with the dice faces.

The game is simple enough to jump into but also includes various tricks and techniques that improve its depth, allowing it to simultaneously be a casual yet engaging game.

The king is gone

The king is gone

Let me start by saying that this game could have potential and i was really curious to try it intrigued by the trailer, unfortunately only later i realized the whole game is right to that trailer.

I’m a lover of endless games, roguelike, dungeon crawler and any game that has puzzle elements, but this “The king is gone” reaches monotony very quickly.

Gameplay is very limited and flat, you can’t move or interact with anything around you, you can simply watch around while the character walks automatically for a short distance before arriving to a room where you must choose which door to open, so the only input available is the left click mouse.

Wiggly Boy

Wiggly Boy

Outstanding. Incredible. Masterpiece. 11/10.

Amazing story mode with both intense and light-hearted moments. The main character’s backstory has immense depth while still allowing for further character development. The main character redefines what it means to grow as an individual, and pushes you, the player, to drive him further, to push beyond the artificial limits we place on ourselves.

The first-person shooter mode redefines the FPS genre as a whole. Call of Duty? Battlefield? Halo? These games are an embarrassment compared to Wiggly Boy. The expertly-crafted gameplay with beyond-next-generation visuals will push current and future game developers in their feeble attempt to match half the quality of this game.

There is a secret that many don’t want you to know but something that I have seen for myself. You wanna know how Biden won the election? By playing Wiggly Boy.

He summoned the 3,000 Wiggly Boys to create an army. One that brings back horrid visions from the Vietnam War. All you hear is screaming as you see the fear in the characters eyes.. But Biden did it. He used this magic power to win. I am sorry that we failed.
