Beautiful & breathtaking views look great in this VR experience. Looking forward to more locations to be added. One problem I faced during launch of the program (using my Oculus Quest-2) is the audio remaining on the PC speakers and not on the headset. Every time I have to manually change the audio device to the headphone of headset. Other thing I did not like is to separately downloading each scenery which takes a lot of time as they are pretty large and waiting during this time spoils the experience somehow. If during installation all the destinations are downloaded at the same time with the option to delete the ones I do not like later would be great. Otherwise a great experience.

This is a great little piece of virtual tourism and provides a little inobtrusive education along the way. The night view appears to be just a filter over the day view with a different skybox but that’s a minor niggle when the rest of the experience works so well.

An undocumented feature I discovered accidentally is the ability to reframe an ingame screenshot; Take a picture (with Valve Index just point one palm away and one towards you in the “photo framing” gesture), and if you don’t have the shot aligned perfectly you can grab the image card and move it around the scene to correct it before saving - very handy.

first, thank you for this beautiful game, a lot of work and times are put into it.

I enjoyed it very much, most locations are interesting to see, but some are not so interesting, like the empty warehouse , there are nothing interesting thing to see, just an empty huge warehouse or building.

please add more interesting and happy places to see and to visit. more tree, flower, bird, nature, river, sky, night star … etc.

My suggestion is to have a map of the earth to show where the location or place are on the map. this is more informative and educational way to learn about the place. Add some background music will be great as well.

Absolutely phenomenal. The photogrammetry in combination with the ambient music, sounds, and particle effects, do an incredible job of conveying the majesty of each scene. I honestly had goosebumps during my first experience, it was incredibly satisfying and shows just how powerful VR can be when done right.

I recommend this to anyone, the experience is much like Google Earth VR and visisting an exhibition. Some ‘exhibits’ are small and don’t give you much room to move around, whilst others let you explore them in greater depth as you navigate their twisting corridors, journeying deeper inside.

Buzludzha VR

Buzludzha VR

A long forgotten time ago I must have paid the creators of Buzludzha a few coffees, for suddenly I received a free code for their much reworked new Steam version. If I am biased, and I probably am, it is because I love and enjoy all «arty» VR stuff: from «Dreams of Dali» and van Gogh’s «Night Cafe» to the fabulous «Sistine Ceiling» and Google’s «Versailles».

Buzludzha, no doubt, plays in the leage of the latter two ─ or in many respects is even better. «Sistine» and «Versailles» are based on photogrammetry. From a certain distance that looks very nice, but when you come closer you notice errors (this critic does NOT apply to the Sistine’s ceiling itself, where hires pictures are applied to fully rebuilt architecture). A distinct difference between the photogrammetry architecture and added 3D-objects is often disturbing, too.

Well Executed and Entertaining

While I have enjoyed many free educational/historical VR experiences, the UI and movement options always leave a lot to be desired. I feared Buzludzha VR might be the same way and was reluctant to opt for a paid product of this nature, but I decided to give it a shot on a sale. It far exceeded my expectations. There are several options for smooth locomotion, teleport, and snap-turning and a robust and user-friendly UI.

When looking at the store page for Buzludzha VR, I wasn’t sure how I felt about some of the quirky elements, such as the wine gun. I thought the developers might be trying to throw in too much extraneous stuff, like a 90’s web page, full of animated gifs and midi files. After playing, however, I have to admit that all the strange little interactables were well done, fun, and contributed to the immersion. Unlike most educational VR titles, Buzludzha VR has some features more common to games, such as an inventory system, climbing mechanics, and a helicopter that you can pilot. These things make the experience more dynamic and enjoyable without detracting from the museum feel. It’s just the right balance of formal and fun.

First, I’ll mention that this is only a slight negative review, and mostly for reasons of polish. Given how cheap it is, if you like rain, and have any interest in an imaginary walk through a (mostly) rainy woods, it’s probably worth it.

Now, for the criticisms:

First, the mechanic of needing to collect a very brightly glowing thingamajig and take it to a stone slab to continue seems very out of place. Instead of a nice walk through a rainy woods, you’re interrupted by a series of inconspicuous dead ends that get magically opened up, for no apparent reason. This is exacerbated by the fact that the first one actually points you in the exact opposite direction of the path it opens.

This game is amazing!

Yes, its a short experience but its a good one. If you ever want to wander around in another world, this is the “game” for you. No killing stuff, no scary stuff. Just a forest and some rain.

You can escape to this world whenever you like. Just hit the play button.

This world looks gourgeous and it reminds me of the thought I had for many years already: if only there were more short linear games again. Nowadays everything needs to have a large and open world. Many of the processing progresses go to that.

Feather

Feather

As Robin Sharma said - ‘The very nature of being a human is we are built to progress, we are built to want. Our brain craves novelty and we are most alive when we are progressing towards our mighty mission.’ The modern society embraces this same idea and it applies to every known medium, including video games. You all are familiar with this - achievements, quests, invisible pointers, to, well, point us to do something to keep occupied. Q is, how the one can play & enjoy the game with ‘no enemies, no combat, no threats’ and basically, without any goal? The answer is - you get away from the familiar.

Real player with 423.7 hrs in game

Feather is not particularly entertaining. It’s not traditionally fun, or thought-provoking, or complex. You’ve seen most of it within an hour. There’s not much to do and you don’t walk away thinking about it, or eagerly awaiting the next time you can play it.

And it’s worth every cent.

Feather may not be my favourite game in my library, but it is undoubtedly one of the most important. I have plenty of games that are relaxing, and yet, whenever I’m feeling sad, or stressed, or anxious, or whenever I’m so bored that absolutely nothing seems appealing, or so deep in depression I don’t feel much, or even just when I want a break- I always turn to Feather.

An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge

Free for everyone at the time of review.

Hardware: Win 10x64, 3570k mildly OC, GTX 1070, 16 GB, SSD.

Super laggy on my system; took me a full 30 minutes to complete a game advertised as 5-10 minutes. I see the system specs state “Windows 7”; I’m guessing this is either a Win 10 issue (some games lag badly in 8 / 10 that run fine in 7) or possibly the 10xx series video card.

I recommend taking a very brief glance at the videos before playing to see how fast the game is supposed to move. If the game is going to lag for you, it will start at the opening credits, which take so long to change screens (tapping an arrow key helps) that it feels like the game is locked up. Don’t press ESC; that instantly closes the game.

AER Memories of Old

AER Memories of Old

TLDR; Initially fun experience, gets stale. 5.65/10

First. You have to either already enjoy these kind of obscure, indirectly enjoyed games by default, or go in with the proper expectations. I have to mentally adjust myself to enjoy this sort of experience personally. All in all, It was a pleasant experience.

Visuals- The Visuals are supposed to look artistic. The models and environment have this purposely edge shaped looked to them. I think it looks good. They accomplish what they set out to do. The cloud effects and the sky look and feel great, the transformation mechanic is smooth looking and satisfying, I can’t really find a flaw visually, as I wont rate this category with expectations of being something its not. Overall I really like the visuals of this game. If I had to nitpick Id say the memory models look like creepy mannequins, and I feel there could have been a slight variety. 9.4/10

Introduction

What happens if you mix peaceful exploration like in ABZÛ with a large pixel, minimalist style? You get AER Memories of Old. The Steam debut for developer, Forgotten Key and an enjoyable experience for gamers of all ages. Daedalic Entertainment is the game’s publisher and they confirm that aerial-based adventures are their hallmark, so to speak. Part of the Deponia series or not, AER represents an adventure, first and foremost.

Story

While it’s never fleshed out as much as I would have preferred, AER Memories of Old has a unique story of its own and since it’s a narrative-driven experience, the game trades replay value for a compelling albeit somewhat restricted tale. Why do I consider it so? Well for one, the female protagonist is not properly introduced nor does she have a lot of NPCs to interact with. Auk is a shapeshifter, the last of her kind and she must undertake a pilgrimage that will culminate in the banishing of an evil entitiy that has lingered for far too long within the fractured fantasy realm known as the Land of Gods. The Void, as its name may suggest, seeks to destroy everything in its path. It was defeated once, but apparently it is in resurgence thus sparking the selfless quest on which Auk has embarked.

Ash of Legends

Ash of Legends

I’ve played some of the beta builds and I’ve enjoyed what I’ve played. They have done a lot of work since they’ve released their first(?) demo and the game is polishing up nicely. They have improved upon pretty much every aspect.

The devs seem to be very accepting of criticism and seem to be working hard to release an excellent VR game.

If a tower-defense fps hybrid with grappling hooks sounds like your type of game, then this game might be for you. Keep in mind that they are still working on the game, however.

It is a super fun game with a lot of potential.

The developer is responsive to feedback and does a great job communicating progress.

I wish this game all the best.

Climber: Sky is the Limit

Climber: Sky is the Limit

Climber: Sky is the Limit is a game with a unique mixture of survival and simulation. As a player, you are a climber who takes on the most difficult and dangerous peaks on earth. To succeed you need to plan your journey carefully by preparing appropriate equipment, choosing a suitable trail, facing extreme weather conditions, and surviving. Conquer your limits, overcome your fear and reach the sky.

Reach the summit

Each expedition is different, and the journey to the top is a great challenge. Conquer your fear, face your limits and reach the summit. In order to do that: traverse dangerous trails using specialized equipment such as ice ax, lifelines, or carabiners.

Face numerous dangers

During the journey, you will face diverse obstacles like blizzards, chasms, vertical walls, steep traverses, icy slopes, and crevasses. The key to success is to plan your next steps wisely and use the appropriate equipment at the right time.

Plan your expedition

Before setting off, decide which trail is best to the top taking into account weather conditions and the weather windows. Sometimes it’s better to take a chance and choose a more difficult route, but thanks to this you will be able to reach the summit before a snowstorm.

Survival

The key to survival is to have appropriate tools when you need one. Each piece of equipment has its weight but also makes your next step harder. Ensure you have enough food to recover your strengths, or you have a warm jacket and sleeping bag to warm up after a full-day climb.

Good timing also plays a great role during the expedition. In the high mountains, where weather changes quickly and night falls very fast, plan ahead to set up camp in the right place that gives you a chance to recover before the next challenging day.

Key Features

  • Scale some of the world’s most famous peaks like Everest, K2, Broad Peak, and others.

  • Face a variety of environmental challenges from chasms, vertical walls, steep traverses, icy slopes, treacherous crevasses, and more.

  • Use specialized equipment to traverse dangerous trails and slopes like ice axes, carabiners, and lifelines.

  • Contend with and plan around harsh weather conditions like blizzards, extreme wind, and plummeting temperatures.

  • Keep up your health and strength by balancing stamina, morale, temperature, and hunger.

  • Plan every point of your journey, packing only the necessities, choosing your path (will you take the safer route or the risky one?), preparing for each day’s trek and weather conditions.

  • Vie for contracts from sponsors for a chance to buy extra equipment and fund future excursions, but be advised they may include incredible challenges.

  • An immersive experience that has been created to be as realistic as possible through consulting expert mountaineers.
