Couch Party Game Night

Couch Party Game Night

The developer has been working hard on this game to rekindle the good times people shared playing split screen with their friends and family. Since it was $1 at the time and I could play locally with my friends, I was curious and bought this game. It was bugged out at first, but the developer worked hard to fix those bugs and added content like new maps, guns, options, visual effects, and game modes. The game has been improved in many ways since day one, and if the developer continues to add content like he has, then this game has lots of potential to grow and become a great couch party game to play with friends. This game requires other people to play with and an interest for seeing smaller games grow, but if you have both, then I personally recommend buying this game and supporting the developer while seeing all of the new features that are added with each update. The game might not seem to have a lot right now, but with enough support and feedback the developer can tend to the game and improve this experience one update at a time.

The first and most crucial point of Couch Party Game Night is that it’s a game that is being independently developed on the side. The second and other crucial point is that it’s geared towards split-screen multiplayer, which sadly, almost seems like a distant past-time activity nowadays. If you were to approach this game with these two things in mind, then you’re more likely to get some enjoyment out of it.

The game supports up to four players, all on one screen; thus, external controllers are almost a must, but workarounds can be made for mouse or keyboard players. An older controller such as a jury-rigged PS3 one worked, eventually. You choose the amount of players, the map, and a few adjustments of the in-game options. There’s a small amount of different weapons, ranging from a few replicas of real guns to laser tag pistols, and more. Each one basically has the same purpose, and besides its rate-of-fire and visual or audio representation, they will all do the same damage. There’s also an option to manually aim and zoom for each one, too. The screens, split into two or three or four ways, is cut up just right. It’s a bit discouraging that each player spawns in the same spot after death, though.

Fight Crab

Fight Crab

Greetings!

It’s Very Good so far.

The best bits:

  • The feel. Bit of an “Armored Core” / Mechwarrior vibe to the control scheme, but with the added tactility of simulated physics

  • The UI. Smacks of Dreamcast-era arcade games

  • Customization. Pick and experiment with favorite strategies and weapons for the crabs you unlock; build their stats as you see fit

  • Co-op. As far as I can tell, your buddy can jump into any part of the campaign, without restrictions, and build up their own crab

I love this game. It’s got a sense of humor about itself; it’s interesting; there’s depth and variety…

I have not had this much fun with a game in years. I’m almost 40 now and most of the wonderment is gone for me with with gaming in general…I bought this for my kid for his birthday and grabbed it for me too, figuring I would sneak an hour in here and there with him–

Well he moved on to a different game near instantly and here I am grinding and looking for time to play this game. I like developing strategies and weird co-op tactics. It’s awesome to be excited to get home from work and actually want to play a game. I haven’t been this obsessed with a game in years. I’m not sure why but I love it.

Fight for that Ball

Fight for that Ball

FIGHT FOR THAT BALL

A minimalistic football fighting 2D platformer with extensive custom maps support. Fast four-player couch coop fun with obstacles, explosions and a bit of fighting!

It is a football game in its essence, two teams with up to two players per team. During play, the primary objective is to score a point by kicking the ball into the opponent’s goal. Actually, from which side does not matter, as long as it passes the two poles. You can fight a bit to gain a time advantage or block attacks and heavy shots on the goal.

You can draw a map in any paint app that supports PNG files. Put it into the game and have a good old scrap on it. Probably the most exciting feature is the custom maps support with its many additional settings for the maps to give you even more freedom to come up with crazy stuff.

Fight for that Ball also comes with Steam Remote Play support, a target practice mode to improve your timing and shooting skills, a couple of team statistics and achievements.

Background

Even if it does not look like much, I started work on that game a while ago. After my friends and I had some fun matches in a similar minigame back then, I thought it would be fun to have it a bit faster and more maps. Here we are six years later, a fast football platformer where you can bring your own drawings to shape the map. I enjoy the wacky ball physics and strange fights, so I hope that some of you can have the same fun.

I’m thrilled to see what maps you come up with. So, please share your maps, thoughts or experiences over in the Steam Community section.

Create custom maps

You can create your own Fight for that Ball custom maps with two steps. The base layer is a PNG file containing the stage colliders. Every part of the image that is not white will be seen as a collider. The background should be white or transparent. The next layer is a JSON file for advanced map options to move and rotate goals, move player or ball spawn points. Custom maps must be stored in “%userprofile%/Appdata/LocalLow/Beardman Studios/fightforthatball/CustomMaps/”. Fight for that Ball comes with a custom map guide. You can find all files in the custom maps directory under CustomMapGuide. Both files must have the same name, E.g. test.png and test.json. The JSON file is not required. The game would load the default positions for goals and spawn points if no JSON file was found.

Stay safe! 3

Quick Race

Quick Race

Fun game, would recommend. Quite a few tracks, good bot support. Steering is a little wonky at first but is reallu quick to get used to and is fun afterwards.

Real player with 1.1 hrs in game

Everything you need to do is very simple – just race and over take every other car on the track to win the race! Quick Race is a simple racing game where you can compete with AI or on a split screen with your friend.

Main features included in the game:

10 tracks with different shapes and surfaces

ability to change time of the day

ability to change AI difficulty

different types of cars

split screen

changeable amount of laps

simple steering

Quick Race is definitely not the simulation game but the steering is made to imitate as much as possible the real steering. Remember to be a nice driver to the other cars. Otherwise they won’t be nice to you causing you to end a race on a wall or out of the track. So, what are you waiting for? Grab the key and put it into your racer’signition!

100ft Robot Golf

100ft Robot Golf

This felt more like an anime with interactive bits than a game. At several points matches are ended early with the match finishing in the cutscene. How you do in the matches has no bearing on the story, either, and you’re constantly forced to change character. Each character has a different special ability, but in several cases I couldn’t work out what they did, and it was never explained. I’m sure the anime part is enjoyable if you’re familiar with anime, but I’m not- I just wanted to play golf with 100 foot robots.

Real player with 5.5 hrs in game

Wanted to write something longer, but haven’t played too much and wanted to keep it the review digestable.

I recommend this game with the stipulation that you buy it for $15 or less and enjoy the McElroy’s or cheesy humor meant to mimic the style of 80s/90s anime involving mech pilots, as well have having some friends to play with.

The gameplay is standard enough (it’s golf), only now you’re in mechs and can destroy buildings and try to hinder each other from making shots. Controls are mapped well and feel varying between mechs but are a bit cryptic, since they aren’t really explained anywhere so it’s more trial and error when you first pilot a new one. Special weapons feel nice as well, though, again, they aren’t explained too well. Physics might be a bit too floaty, though we do golf on the Moon and under the sea, so I suppose those are the reasons for it.

The cream of the crop for racing games and the best (once again) in the F1 series. After my glowing review of 20 i actually lost interest pretty quickly so i’ve held off reviewing this. After 70 odd hours this is by far my go to game whenever i fancy some action, the new story mode “Braking Point” is great, though i don’t think it’s one you can replay more than once or twice.

My Team has taken yet another huge step and is starting to slowly feel more and more like a true authentic management style mode but there is still a way to go. Saying that what we currently have is absolutely fantastic.

Sons of Ra

Sons of Ra

Neat concept and all the characters explore different playstyles. Soundtrack is a big standout, it’s great!

Having played long enough to unlock all the gods, the strategy feels a little too minion-focused at time of review. None of the god abilities buff towers- only disabling or destroying them. Most abilities either damage or buff units already on the board, or summon a super powerful unit. I can reliably win games without building a single structure, and I would like to see the balance shift a bit towards building to really lean into the tower-defense aspect.

Real player with 17.8 hrs in game

Alright quick review under 2 hours played. It’s a FAST paced tower defense with all controls done through the mouse. That brings me to what I dislike so far. Tower defense is cool and all but when I have to hold a mouse button down then select a defense/offense/power by sliding the mouse then placement after that. It’s just not intuitive. It should be abilities and units are selected with the keyboard and placement is through the mouse. That would allow the player to place units and abilities WAY faster.
