Green world: Catharsis

Green world: Catharsis

Alpaca Ball: Allstars

Alpaca Ball: Allstars

Nice little indie gem with good core gameplay. It was designed with controller in mind. Playing with keyboard is possible but lacks precision in both movement and striking the ball. Has various arenas and ball types, but the single-player campaign is very short. I can only recommend to buy this one if you plan to play a lot of local co-op or during a deep sale. Online Multiplayer would be an awesome addition to the game that can justify the current full price.

I could not see where my first two hours of this game just vanished.

Super fun and super enjoyable.

Devs, if you are reading it, please consider an online mode with leadership table and other stuff. This would definitely motivate people to stick with the game and to look forward to any addons and different events.

Rushdown Revolt - Alpha Testing

Rushdown Revolt - Alpha Testing

Rushdown Revolt is a decent game, but it has a major issue… The way the game is made combo centric with air rush and spark is all fun and stuff until you are the one getting combo’ed. They tried fixing this by making you able to “air tech” after a hit but if you actually do air tech a move you aren’t instantly actionable like a parry or even a bit of -frames, you’re still in the same amount of end lag as if you missed the air tech, you get little to no reward for actually air teching a move, all you receive really (if you miss) is your character entering “critical state” meaning you are in hit-stun after a move for longer and can’t even air tech again, all you have is a burst which is once per stock, you’re pretty much guaranteed to be hit after air teching a move. Spikes are also very, I mean very very lame in this game. This game has a cancelling system as well but they have a character ,weishan that can cancel some of his specials… like what??? I understand he has a lot of end lag but that’s what spark is for.

Note my playtime is inaccurate because I have been playing the private alpha as well.

Rushdown Revolt is ugly as sin, the music sucks, the voice acting is distractingly bad, and it has a stupid name. Yet there is one quality, more important than any other, which carries Rushdown like Atlas shouldering the heavens: it has the sauce.

Project M players will like it because it is Project M’s ethos taken to its logical extreme. Guilty Gear players might also like it because it has roman cancels.

On one hand it is derivative for a Super Smash Bros. clone (compared to, for example, Rivals of Aether or Brawlhalla, but not Slap City), as it keeps many holdover mechanics that others don’t, but it’s also very unique from Smash, because what it adds and changes transforms the game into something nearly unrecognizable.

Alpha Shark

Alpha Shark

In screensaver mode the game will be in single player mode, locked in first-person (shark), the HUD will be disabled, and the sharks movement will become more static allowing the player to move around and create beautiful underwater screensavers.

Wallpaper mode

This mode is similar to screensaver mode except the movement controls are now mouse-click driven in order to support the software called “Wallpaper engine” that players have requested / mentioned in the past.

Multiplayer / Matchmaking

To join a random open lobby simply click “Join” on the main screen

To host your own game, click “Host”. Other players will be able to join as described above by clicking “Join”

You can invite and join friends using the Steam overlay.

  1. Press [Esc] on the keyboard

  2. Host clicks “Invite”

  3. Host uses invite dialog to invite other player(s)

  4. Other player(s) start Alpha Shark

  5. Other player(s) press [Shift]+[Tab] to activate the Steam overlay

  6. Other player(s) click “Play Game” in the Steam chat window

For transparency, multiplayer is tested with 4 players and bots to emulate large lobbies. The game should support up to 256 players per server. You may find that adjusting the max players can improve or degrade your gameplay experience. There is a built in text chat, but no voice chat. If you wish to work as a team it is suggested that you use Discord or Steam Chat.

CanopySim-Skydive Landing Simulator

CanopySim-Skydive Landing Simulator

The game looks really slick when you get into the plane, but you quickly find that you can’t leave the plane – which is pretty much a requirement for skydiving! I posted this in the summer of 2021, and 5-6 months later, the only posts in the Discussion area are from folks with the same problem – on Index, VIVE, and Oculus. Nothing from the developer.

Something is wrong… and the developer isn’t paying attention here. Save yourself! Don’t get CanopySim.

I so wanted to like this game. I’d been looking for a fun VR parachute sim of some description and was hopeful this was it. Ignoring the couple of “don’t recommend” reviews, I decided to give it a go anyway. I’m glad I did, as I know it’s not for me now. Issues I ran into:

  • The settings dialog shows up sideways for some reason; making it hard to read the settings and hard to change them.

  • Calibration is a little confusing, but made sense in the end. But…

  • …the tutorial seems to totally ignore the calibration. “Chest height” is above my head in the tutorial. O_o

SC2VN - The eSports Visual Novel

SC2VN - The eSports Visual Novel

I’m going to try really hard to write an unbiased review here as I know the writer for this novel personally, but everything I write here will be an honest representation of my thoughts on the game. But first, some minor background to the expectations I had.

I’ve been playing visual novel games for several years. In a similar comparison, I’ve also played JRPGs for years. On that note, there exists a well-known engine called RPGmaker that has slowly built itself a notorious reputation in the world of game development. What I mean to say is: most RPGmaker games are middling (which is the nice way of putting it).

Real player with 5.1 hrs in game

First of all - I usually do not write reviews but I believe this game deserves every bit of attention as it may inspire Devs to come up with a sequel in near future (at least I hope).

Let me put it this way: I pretty much hate VN and I really enjoyed this one. I also don’t like eSports in general and this game made me interested in competitive Starcraft. It is truly remarkable how this simple game kept me both invested in story and relaxed at the same time. The idea was there for quite some time but until now I didn’t see someone take it and make into a story of a game. Shame as this one proves that eSports make fantastic topic for “social story”.

Zero-G VR

Zero-G VR

This game had potential to be a fun little experience at a really nice price point. But nope. Too many problems for me to really enjoy it.

The controls are a bit odd but would work okay in theory. One of the trackpads lets you move up, down, left and right relative to where you’re looking, and the triggers move you forward or backwards relative to where you’re looking. The game consists of struggling with these controls in order to try and get through the hoops. Your controls seem to have to little influence that it’s just kind of frustrating. It gets even worse if you hit one of those damn yellow boost cans. Doing this blasts you off in a direction that you have no control of, and trying to influence the course of your boost seems to do nothing.

Update: My Specs: MSI AERO GTX 1070/16 Gigs of RAM/FX 8320 OC’d

Nice space walking sim but it is a game so don’t expect the physics to be like space walking. You would fly off into space if there was no space “friction”. But gravity does effect you in the game. The graphics are very nice on my set up. You basically have to thrust from point A to point Z. The difficulty ramps up fairly quickly and gravitational forces come into play during your game time. When the levels are loaded you will be shown a brief cut scene and that part may make you a little VR sick. Focus on a fixed planet or star if this happens. But the actual gameplay space walking/running is just fine. Support this one. It is well worth the price, imo. Check out my YouTube page for VR gameplay. The video is old and I did not know the game well at the recording but overall I enjoyed it. Enjoy.
