Light Fairytale Episode 1

Light Fairytale Episode 1

I originally bought this game out of boredom. Having played everything in my library over again looking for a refreshing narrative; something I could hover my cursor over and think, “this, this is well written.”

I eventually bought a kindle and put a Hiatus on gaming for several months, disappointed at the lack of any new titles containing a decent narrative. I initially broke this hiatus at the release of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and I was happy with what the game offered. Yet, still, the narrative end of the game felt passive and only served to augment the gameplay.

Definitely can’t recommend this game as a stand-alone, though that may change if/when he releases the complete story and bundles them together in some way. But as it stands, it is a very incomplete and barebones jrpg. But let’s start with some positives.

Positives

• Music: Definitely was the best part of this game. All the music sounds really good and enjoyable enough to listen to outside of the game.

• Setting: While it really does come off being a pretty generic jrpg world, it is interesting enough to keep your attention.

The game is quite entertaining, the content is good enough.

PROS:

Good story, Nice characters. Interesting world. Feels like an Anime fantasy series.

CONS:

The english localization is awful and the skill variety feels ridiculously complex for the simplicity of the battles.

I mean, you got like 985679 skills for each character but you won’t ever need them. Just use “the one that kills stuff” with any character and win the game. Also, many of the battle conditions are either not shown or explained correctly so the “kill stuff " is always a valid path.

No Reviews? That’s a shame…well It’s a SRPG Puzzle(like) that’s fun to play. So play it. Real good. 8.1/10

Part choice VN, Part BA without the MO, other minigames thrown in. The voice acting and humour are on point, the story and gameplay surprisingly work well together. An interesting blend of genres.

This game is not at all like it is advertised. I go into it expecting a break and just clicking through what I assume to be an interesting story. Sadly what is it really, a dead moba that you can’t play because youre waiting on someone else to join.

My Experience

On the surface, Spyhack checks a lot of my boxes: it’s a stealth game with a sci-fi wrapping that gives you good information on what enemies are able to see. It includes some conceptually neat hacking sections, such as using a robot that glides around on a track gassing your enemies, some turrets whose programming can be changed to target the opposition, and an RC car that can EMP enemy equipment.

I really wanted to like Spyhack - I could tell that it was made with heart, and there’s some part of me that is always rooting for these small indie studios. I found the broken English of my handler charming, and couldn’t hold back a smile when after entering an enemy facility my protagonist exclaimed, “I thought they only manufactured jellybean vitamins for kids!”

Intro

Millennium - A New Hope is the first out of five series of a turn-based RPG Maker game with a lot of vast dungeons, quests, and secret rooms.

Pros:

  • 4 difficulty choices

  • Freedom to choose either random encounter or touch-based encounter at the beginning of the game

Initial Thoughts: 10 Hours (see below)

Keep in mind I’m playing on hard.

  • This is possibly the most poorly balanced rpg I’ve ever played. The battles are horribly slow unless you turn on a menu option to increase the speed of the animations to 150%.

  • It seems neither Marine nor Benoit have enough useful skills to properly combat enemies. The most useful skill Marine has is “Call Jeanne” which summons a fairy like creature that can attack multiple enemies and heal to great effect. This in theory could overpower a player if it weren’t possible for enemies to kill a character before you can summon the fairy and give it a command. I often found myself summoning it using it to heal twice then letting it attack. Some enemies are also totally immune to it’s attack (I just used to to heal in those instances).
