Gloria Victis: Medieval MMORPG

Gloria Victis: Medieval MMORPG

IMPORTANT FOR POTENTIAL BUYERS :

Don’t let yourself be fooled by “the average steam review” rating, a lot of positive reviews come from players with 60 hours or even less (surely not enough to really see all the mechanics of the game, let alone fully understand them and see all the flaws), I’ve also seen a lot of negative reviews “mysteriously disappear”.

I’m fairly convinced that the right “average steam review” rating for this game should be “Mixed” or even lower.

PROS :

-It has (HAD imho) a huge potential, could have been a gaming milestone in the hands of a better development team

Basic Review

  1. The devs seem competent, as proven by the fact that they made a game in Unity that could have smooth large battles of ~200 players at the same battle site, even if the battle site is a castle!

  2. The devs either lack experience at managing an MMO or they want to manage their MMO the way they do. Specifically; a) the game is borderline pay2win and may become more so in the future, b) when a studio is making money from a cash shop and not the content of the game, we end up with an MMO that lacks content. Unless future expansions are also buy2play (GW2 model), then Gloria Victis will end up like SWTOR. That said, the game for the time period I played it (December 18 - August 19) received multiple content additions, c) some items at the cash shop (specifically the nation transfers) create problems for the community and balancing between nations.

You’ll probably only like this game if you enjoyed AQW.

The EXP curve is terrible, even if it’s supposed to compensate for the low level cap. You’ll get to the point where if you want to level up, you’ll have to grind certain dungeons a bunch of times, not to mention that they give far less EXP than story missions (which you probably can’t do if you are grinding the dungeons for EXP in the first place).

The graphics are nice, with it being capped at 60 fps. Everything has good brightness (loving me that bloom). I’m also glad that there’s actually sound effects in this game. That spawn-in sound effect is kind of annoying, though.

Play it if:

-you’re bored

-you have played other AE games,

-you dont mind a grind

-you can keep in mind its early access, and not a polished product.

Dont play it if:

-you dont like grinds

-you need a story to get behind (ashfall might change this I guess, we will see)

-you are looking for the best looking game out there… (you can however use Reshade -https://reshade.me/-, and tone down the saturation, add in some better FXAA, add better bloom, and add some sharpening.)

Compared to other AE games, this one seems promising, but will need some good content to really convince me its a game worth sticking with. as of now, it has seemed pretty one dimensional, however that is expected, as the devs work through making their first 3D game. promising concept guys, just follow through :D

Truly a terrific oldschool 2D MMORPG experience! I played a ton of Illutia, RuneScape, Ragnorak and Tibia growing up and if you enjoyed those then you will adore this!

The developer consistently updates the game, interacts with the community, and responds to feedback. The small but passionate community create a warm sense of nostalgia, always happy to offer assistance. I expected to play a few hours to satisfy a nostalgic itch but can’t get enough!

Building your character provides freedom as there are no class restrictions, I chose to build a tank support Wisdom Mage. There are a variety of quests and puzzles that will have you exploring this charming world for hours on end. With four large islands, a vast ocean and other locations to traverse and discover with more on the way. You can get access to more power through the ‘Seraph/Rebirth’ system that allows you to reset to level 1 with extra stats, as well as try out other classes with an advantage!

This is a game for those who like to grind out great gear with hrs, and i mean hrs of game play for that great set to show off to friends and foes. All in a easy to use and understand game that take little internet speed to play. It also has a great commujnity that is on top of it evn under pressure. THe discord chat has a vary open connunity with other players willing to do trades, pvp,pve and just hang out. The adventures that are set up are set to keep the player moving and looking fo rthat next secret( if i do say there are hidden things) The in game gems are a great extra for players to make the play uniqe and fresh : this dose not inhance play unless you get a global event. it is all for ur pleasure witch i htink is a graet way to show support and not to win. this games updates are keept posted and current to what they are doing in the game. that make for a nice watch as a game grows and becomes i bealive and hope the next great game to have on every pc, look and play for self if you dont think so… Off to grind.

Book of Travels

Book of Travels

This is a very unusual mmorpg. It uses small servers, and many of them. The setting is pleasantly exotic. The artwork/graphics style is truly beautiful. The music is atmospheric. You play as a lone nomadic wanderer travelling a strange but peaceful land. You have to discover things as well as getting good at trading. The combat is pretty unique. Periodically you find stat-based object encounters called Endeavors, that will richly reward you. There are also plenty of worthwhile roadside encounters. There is a very unusual method for handling co-operative party play too. It is all simple, intuitive, and innovative.

There is something meditative about this game. While you can fight, you really don’t have to. I will admit at times it gets buggy, but I can look past that to the gem it is. Where other games give you a list of things to do and employ constant action to engage you, Book of Travels engages you with its world building, slow and introspective journeys and it’s skill system that you uncover along the way. There are so many secrets and much knowledge that you uncover as you walk the bereft of it’s massive, mystical world. I think, with time and more updates, this could be a incredible game.

I think this game has a ton of potential. There is a lot of work that needs to be done. At roughly 100 hours I’m wrapping up basically everything you can do in this game so… But to me 10 dollars for 100 hours is a steal.

I find the top review ridicolous on multiple levels, otherwise I wouldn’t bother writing one myself. I will try my best to make it stand on it’s own.

This is a puzzle, adventure and exploration built on grind, trade and fight that varies in difficulty based on your intellect, based on the choices you make regularly.

For starters(this all will only be a start), you have the choice to gather any combination of materials, to craft hundreds of variations of gear.

That means traveling shoes with work gloves or traveling gloves with work shoes.

For the first fifteen levels or so, this game is a cozy, single-player, free-to-play PvE RPG experience, and the community will likely help if you encounter any issues. That much I can recommend trying: it should give you a good idea of whether or not you’d enjoy the game long-term.

Nevertheless, the foundation of the game has several major flaws:

  1. Completing quests requires that you max level all adventure skills: such as subterfuge, academics, perception, etc. You can’t specialize. So, even though the game advertises the freedom to level however you want, in the long run there’s no real choice, because you need -all- the skills. Increasing your primary level also provides no choices. It increases your HP, and perhaps most notably, causes lower-level mobs to ignore you.

Reign of Darkness

Reign of Darkness

Disclaimer: I have over 255+ hours into this game and truly enjoyed this passion project. I have been power leveled, done countless dungeon grinds, tanked, dps, healed in groups. This is a critical review from an experienced player who has taken a 5+ month break and come back with a fresh character. I have also supported the developer by purchasing in game items.

As of 10/16/2020 I could not recommend this game to any new player. Between the not so friendly leveling experience to low player base. This group centric game just misses out on the party experience. There are not many active players to support leveling from 1 to 100,to even consider leveling with others, via a dungeon. Plus there is not even enough quests/mobs in the world (Outside dungeons) to get you to 100, if you went solo.

AS OF 12/14/2020

As Ive played this over the year I had grown blind to what this game offers and ignored red flags with the games developments over the span of my playtime. Currently the devs are working hard on the game to push out lots of content rather than balancing and bug fixing. As more Content is released the less polished the game looks from when I first started playing with fresh Awe-struck eyes.

The quests are dull, unoriginal, and lazy, with the dialogue for them being the most bland and uninteresting I’ve ever come across in an mmo. The newest quest additions become a game of “Where’s Waldo”, looking for a hidden object in the open world. These quests tell no story and seem to be there just to be there so they can advertise “Many quests” When in reality there are no more than 35ish lackluster/ boring quests in general. Lore and story are no where in sight and tells no actual story as of right now.

Temtem

Temtem

I’ve played over 600 hours of Temtem and read through some of the reviews today and like most games with thousands of reviews think there’s some valid feedback and some not valid feedback and I figured I’ve play enough to give an adequate opinion.

PvP is the best part of this game and is one of the best turn-based strategy game I have ever played. Unfortunately, you (as of today) need to complete the story and grind very heavily in order to be able to sufficiently access this. In competitive matches, you have a team of 8 temtem and go through a draft/ban phase before the start of a match and end up battling opponents with 5 of your 8 tems. You and your opponent each get to ban a tem, then pick your two tems to lead (battles are 2 vs 2 at all times) then each get to ban another tem, and then draft 3 more. This phase alone requires quite a bit of strategy as you need to quickly be able to read counters to your team, and draft effective opposition to your opponents picks, and also means you have to have a well rounded and thought out team. Simply picking the best tems in the game or best tems on your team in a draft usually isn’t enough; you need well thought out win conditions, strategies, and tems that synergize with one another to accomplish shared goals get you there.

To be fair, I shouldn’t compare this game to Pokémon, but it honestly does so much stuff better than most games from that series, SPECIALLY when it comes to combat mechanics, it trully makes me think a lot more about my overall team composition instead of focusing in each individual creature, plus you can fully customize moves at any time if you need to experiment and all. And most important of all: no RNG in combat, thanks goodness.

I have yet to reach the endgame, but I currently am on the 4th island of the game, and seems to be a pretty good game overall.

Very fun and interesting MMO game, I was browsing steam with my friend to try and find a game to play and we came across this, I have been playing non-stop for 2 days, sometimes AFK’ing to stay on top of the ‘Time In Game’ leaderboard lol. The only thing I don’t like is that there are only 2 servers, a Russian server, and a European server. I am in Canada, so I have to play on the EU server since it is the only english speaking one. The downside to this is that there are over 10K players on the Russian server, and there are 55 on the EU server. I am #1 on EU though :) Shout out to bumbum and BussySlaya for helping me through this journey.

Every few days i receive a debuff. It started two weeks ago, from 4.5b damage i gone to 250k, my gold was reduced from 100m to 1m… then, from the 250k damage i leveled and buid items till i reached 2m damage. and now, i am at 475k…

i was liking the game, but atleast ADVICE you are going to break my equips. Bah, this thing is too boring.

Thanks for destroying my character, stealing my gold and my equipments.

[Deamnories]Eracna

ps you taked my gold and changed my items for rebalancement. Then, wth there is 2 ppls level 100 with 900m and 1,4b gold? thats decisely not legit. balancement totally failed, game destined to fail, if you destroy the account of a non russian, and permit russians to bug with no consequences….
