Lakeview Cabin 2

Lakeview Cabin 2

Another good chapter in the Lakeview series, the 80s Horror/slasher genre feeling is captured again and you can feel it in this new adventure. True moments of distress and the feeling that you have to watch your back will hit you as soon as you start the game (at least after the first night ;-) there is new set of scary Killers waiting for you in this First Episode and new ways to deal with them with some traps you could “built” resembling the ones made by the kid of the old movie “Home alone” that will allow you to make really convoluted ways to hurt and kill your persecutors (The lore is expanded in this new game and as it’s still early for anything “official” everything is left to the interpretation of the players but is clear it is another work of love by the author). The game is still a work in progress but you could lose hours trying to beat it in the best way possible. There is again no Save option and your choices (and some times luck) will determine the outcome of your play. Highly recommended to buy and support the creator and enjoy another Terrific story.

It’s so good. Great for fans of the last games especially. You’re put back into the wild world of Lakeview Cabin with new mechanics, new enemies, and the same amount of full frontal nudity.

I love how this has turned out, BUT be warned that this is very much in early access. You’ll experience lots of bugs, incomplete features, and less levels than the first game. Currently there are 2-ish levels, tons of new items along with old ones, absolutely fantastic graphical improvements, and new physics.

The game’s pretty great and gets really fun with its art/style. The modding community’s pretty alright as well! I had almost gotten to most of the in-game achievements but recently had to restart due to replacing a hard drive, still going to play through it again! Love this game.

P.S. OH BABY YEAH WE HEARD FROM THE DEV!

FOREWARNED

FOREWARNED

Though may are quick to chalk FOREWARNED up as another shitty Phasmophobia clone, they couldn’t be further from the truth. While both share the aspect of investigating spiritual happenings, that is just about where their similarities end. FOREWARNED places the player into the shoes of an archaeologist investigating Egyptian tombs that have seemingly came to fruition out of thin air. Inside these tombs, you will gather varying forms of evidence that are more closely related to science (e.g. metal detector, Geiger counter, electronic/magnetic disturbance, etc.). This is really the antithesis of Phasmophobia, which heavily focuses on more supernatural forms of evidence (e.g. EMF). During your expeditions into these forgotten monuments, you can expect to be faced with traps that will hinder your progress. Once all is well and done and you have discovered which Mejai you are dealing with, you must steal preserve the artifact located inside the inner tomb. Upon retrieval, the exit in the tomb will be blocked and you must find a hidden lever to secure your freedom once more, but be weary as you may have just woken up something sinister.

This is a launch day review. Just for some perspective as of writing this review I have played a decent amount already, 76 hours, due to previously having access to the Beta.

Pros

  • Insane number of ghost interactions compared to other paranormal games (currently 50+), with already 8 ghost types in the game, with many more to come. Both of these in combination add a lot of unpredictability and replayability to the game.

  • Very creepy atmosphere and ambience that adds to the horror element. No cheap jump scares here.

For an early access game, this game is absolutely amazing. I haven’t experience most of the game breaking bugs that other people have so my review on things are mostly based on my experience.

The Gameplay:

For the first couple of runs I have done the smallest map, Potts Road. It takes a little used to getting accustomed to the environment and figuring out how things work, but when you start to get the flow of things you start to understand what is needed to be done and how you need to survive and cast exorcisms. The process of subconsciously scanning the environment for any changes or disturbances that appear is something I’m quite fond of. You’re not just guessing or being brain dead about your decisions as if you fail the exorcism or get the select the wrong ghost, you have no choice but to immediately evacuate as you only have one attempt in exorcising the ghost. This creates a sense of tension that makes the player have to analyze the situation you’re in and how you’re going to do things to find concrete evidence of which type of ghost along with confirming what evidence items are needed for the ghost and the support items required for the exorcism.

BIGFOOT

BIGFOOT

The game is fun scary for the first few times. There are bugs but each patch it gets better and better. They need to make it so you can start another round with the same people if yours ends on multiplayer. Also they need to have an option for 2 Bigfoots, like two AI or a combo of AI and players. The hop over railings can be annoying at times. A straight jump would be nice compared to that or at least an option to stop it.

The lack of guns at the start makes it so if you have a faster connection you get a gun. Kinda unfair, should just randomly give them out or give a standard gun to everyone.

As it currently stands I wouldn’t recommend this game. It has been in development for 4 years and 10 months at the time of writing this. That’s a long time without an official release. The mechanics are buggy and the AI feels so primitive to fight against. He attacks all night and doesn’t go away, then spends the whole day running and hiding form you. Bigfoot also sets traps that you have to avoid. Only you can’t avoid them. the traps are invisible until you trip them, then you get 0.5 seconds to activate a QTE or you get damaged.. The game punishes you for simply walking around and exploring. And now I see that this unfinished game has weapon skin packs available for purchase. Time and effort that could be put into completing the game is being used to push cosmetic DLC instead. This game is just not worth the money

Interesting tactical turn based strategy-rpg game where you roam maps, survive, and fight.

There are a lot of different heroes you can buy as warriors, lots of different items both magic and weapons, 3 types of resources: money, food and mana that you need constantly take care of.

Very interesting project, though in early access, “70% ready”

Tactical turn based strategy-rpg game.

Looks good and plays very well.

The game is so very satisfying to play, it has so much charms there and there.

Some ideas are very interesting.

The game features a excellent combat system that’s more tactical and satisfying than in most games but without getting too quirky for its own good.

Game still have bugs, and they still need work.

Minuses are - graphics are not the greatest.

Wish the game and developer all the success and look forward to even more.

Alien Dawn

Alien Dawn

Edited/Update: I had a lot of fun running with the developers (Christian and Jes) the day after writing this review :D We completed my first (and currently only) escape. I’ve been playing it daily ever since, determined to stay alive as long as possible before completing a second escape. I’ve made it a few days. I just wanted to say this is a really unique game and if I may add a suggestion, I would really love to pick up the enemy heads after shooting them off. I’ve seen numerous basketball courts around the map and it would be a healthy pastime. It’d be better if I could put them in a backpack but I won’t push it. I won’t push it. You’re the best.

If you are a lurker, like I am, then this is the review for you.

This game is made by a duo, two people. What has been achieved here is rather impressive with the amount of systems they have in place. From having a reliable Desktop and vr mode, to the humble animation of eating something, there are many things going on under the hood that many may miss. Sure, there are going to be bugs especially since this has just recently released on early access.

Early access is meant to be a time to support the development, and to directly help shape the game. This game is no exception, the developers are wonderful human beings, who listen to you and genuinely enjoy spending time with people. One of the most impressive things I’ve seen these devs do, is on a few occasions, invite those who have negative experiences to the discord to chat about where the problems lie. These devs acknowledge there are problems and acknowledge that feedback is one of the more important tools in their toolbox. I see these devs going a long way with the attitudes I have observed thus far, even before I directly engaged with them.

Close Your Eyes -Anniversary Remake-

Close Your Eyes -Anniversary Remake-

Really great so far. Overall, the sprite work, artstyle, soundeffects and - track are very good at worst.

Girl’s Graveyard is very intruiging and can be extremely eerie. I’ve had a complaint about a room getting too dark which was apparently fixed according to update news.

Twisted Puzzle is fun though I found some hints to be too vague but I also think changing that would severely hurt the game and its presentation.

So far the Remake of the “main” game is also very good. I can’t really say more at the moment considering it’s not finished.

I look forward to the completed product of this game. The old version of Close Your Eyes is without a doubt one of my favorite indie games out there, especially in terms of story. I am happy that this remake, which also contains so much more than the original game to the point that one could call this a sequel (which it may be, who knows!), was made. I am more than happy to buy this game (while the old one was free, I would have absolutely paid to play it) and as said before, I am eagerly anticipating the next update to this game.
