Eternium

Eternium

I have been a member of Steam for quite a few years I really do not write a lot of reviews. I do not even post that often. But this game has frustrated me to the point I feel I have no choice.

I played the game even though there were things that bothered me but for some reason it intrigued me. I mean using the same mouse click to attack with as you use to move can be a major PITA when you are trying to not eat a bosses enrage.

I have definitely yelled at my avatar a time or two begging him to move and not attack. But I played through.

This is a review from a long lost fan of the game. I play this game with my last save of Eternium on mobile, then login back with this PC version.

I played this game on mobile version since 4 years ago (counted from today’s release of early access on PC today, and the last mail i got in game that still stay). Been liking it on how it has some unique aspects like swiping and drawing sign controls, important loots were pretty easy to get like set gears and what not, cuz you can combine some gears into better version of it. All currencies can be acquired through in game, which was only gold and gems. Some upgrades may requires you to wait real time, but it was still comfy for sometime.

Ancient Abyss

Great game, needs more content. Also the notion of space in this game is not so intuitive, always there is a chance that you can stuck in some bush or wall or something else. There are still bugs in this game, for example It happened to me to stuck in a chest room, because some of the mobs disappeared, he made noise, but he could not harm me, that’s why I need to restart the game, I could do nothing with it. Overall game is good, I like the pixel art, mob design, main character design, music is good, it needs more diversity, for example two hands sword and one handed sword have the same effect the difference is color and speed, make it different please. I didn’t like that you need boots for passing long empty distances, make it a special skill or something, The gloves are not precise, it’s hard to predict where will you arrive using them. But game is beautiful and is full of potential.

This game is by no means polished, however it is fun.

Starting with the cons because I want to get this out of the way.

  • I understand what they mean Zelda like, and while this game is not for zelda fans it does take a lot from zelda. The parts, but not the feel.

  • This game has no art polish. It’s a bunch of nice looking art but none of the art shares the same style. You have hand drawn animation clashing against pixel art that’s clashing against 3D models in a very bizarre way that just looks weirder the more you look at it.

Clunky Hero

Clunky Hero

I wrote a quick thumbs-up review after 20mins of playing the game. Now that I finished it, I am editing my review cause I cannot give a thumbs-up anymore. I got to give 2 thumbs-up! I haven’t had so much fun playing a platform game since I played Wonderboy in Monsterland back in the 80s. Clunky Hero features gorgeous gfx, excellent soundtrack, and some of the most brilliant sfx and speech (speech?!) you’ll ever hear in a game. And while all that is great, a platform game needs to pay attention to 2 major areas: controls and difficulty curve. And Clunky excels here as well. The controls are so smooth, they can have the ladies swooning. And the difficulty curve is perfect, giving you plenty of time to frolic about before things start getting tough. Add to that all the cool secrets and bonuses, and Clunky Hero cannot be recommended enough. And that’s just the early access version I played.

A metroidvania platform game with funny characters, dirty jokes and nerd references!

As seen for the studio’s previous games like Encodya, there is a lot of love for old school games.

The difficulty level is pretty high and some of the puzzles are not so straightforward. You will need to navigate and visit again old areas to access parts thanks to newly acquired skills.

The art is delightful, both for the monsters and for the wonderful backgrounds. Special mention for the original music and the “dialogues” (sort of…)

METAL DOGS

Someone made a game based on the comic “We 3” and that makes me so happy 3

EDIT: If you like games that you can grind at and listen to podcasts atst, this is a great addition to that kind of game, much like Book of Demons.

Currently this game is fun for about 10-20 mins. I love the concept and almost Diablo II like gameplay in portions of it and it has potential to be quite good… but a lot of work is needed to make this a game worth $30.

I would say in the games current state it feels like a $5 game that you could spend an hour or 2 enjoying before you put it down and walk away from it forever.

Lots of issues with this game (most of which I would overlook if it was multiplayer…. but it’s not)

PROS:

  • Game has potential to be an awesome game of dodging and timing attacks and customizing weapons

The Unliving

The Unliving

The realm of the living has been corrupted to its core and a storm is coming to change the world order. This storm is you, a mighty Necromancer, a sorcerer who denies death and leads the legions of the dead. Clerics and lords hope to hide behind high walls, but there’s no stronghold to cover them from your wrath. Smite hundreds of those standing in your way and turn them into your tools on the way to a greater purpose.

The Unliving is a dynamic rogue-lite action RPG with strategic elements. Raise the undead, use numerous spells and explore a mystical world, all realised with darkly extravagant pixel-art.

TURN ENEMIES INTO YOUR UNDEAD ARMY

Each fallen foe can be resurrected and added to your army to create unlimited legions of the dead. These re-animated creatures have their own unique abilities, such as the undead Priest whose blessings in life, will now curse your enemies in death.

CRUSH EVERYONE IN YOUR WAY

Only some of the living are helpless victims, the rest can retaliate against your forces. They hold the line, move in large groups and wield powerful abilities too. They cherish their lives and will not fall easily, so unleash hell as the Undead Lord to bring them to their knees.

CONQUER UNCHARTED LANDS

The world is randomly generated for each run and is richly populated with an array of creatures, artefacts, secret rooms and deadly traps. Each part of the world is occupied by a variety of living inhabitants - invade villages and slay feeble peasants to reinforce your army or engage in a desperate fight to the death in the swamps against formidable foes.

UNRAVEL THE MYSTERIES OF NECROMANCY

Collect cryptic notes, force answers out of your enemies and study the writings of the ancient artefacts to gather the lost memories of the Necromancer piece by piece as you reveal the nature of his immortality, the secrets of his phylactery companion and find out the grim truth about the supreme hierarchies of the Church.

BATTLE EPIC BOSSES

The powerful creatures of this shadowy world will do all they can to stop you. Each boss has a unique fighting style and set of abilities, meaning deftness in combat and strategic thinking will be crucial in emerging victorious from these grueling encounters.

DIE AND RISE AGAIN

The ability to deny death itself is the greatest secret of the Necromancer. Another mortal strike is merely a setback for him. Take a lesson from your death and don’t let your enemies catch you the same way twice.

Almighty: Kill Your Gods

Almighty: Kill Your Gods

Getting to the point, this game is epic.

I didn’t buy it initially due to the high number of negative reviews. I read all of them at the time, including the positive. Then on a whim, i just bought the game…… and i’m so glad I did.

Honestly, 90% of the negative reviews i read, i have no idea what they were talking about. A lot of them logged more or less than an hour of game time. i’m not even sure they played more than 15 minutes and this game looks really big.

The cut scenes…. i love them. it’s a story based game. They don’t lag, they are mostly just the ancestor figure talking at you and they add a vital element to this complex “world” and story. i’ve just never been bothered by them. most are near the beginning of play as the early quests are made to set you up with getting to know the game which is really useful because there is A LOT to do and be done to progress. a few almost redundant explanations are given related to controls and standard gameplay, but they never get in your way, they are short and simply not on the level in the negative reviews.

To my experience, the game is above average, but not very high. I can easely give it a rough 6/10 at best, or going a little lower to 5.5/10.

For an Early access, when it came out, the game was a mess, almost unplayable. With patches and some optimisations, it starts to run smoothier on my end. They also included some quality of life for an EA to get more stuff in the game itself. That’s the plus.

As for the gameplay, Almighty is litterally a HOARD type of gaming. You kill. You rescue. You Capture. You dig. You loot everything as you can find for your need and for your village and you extract your ressources to the Extractor Portals around the Islands you visit. That’s pretty much what the main gameplay mechanic is.

Dwarven Forge

This game shows a lot of promise and i’ll be keeping a very close eye on it.

I’m recommending this game as a show of support for a game I wish to see finished however It isn’t exactly in a playable state currently due to bugs and possible balance issue (that or i just suck not sure yet lol).

The depth of the crafting with all the different qualities and material types really is something i’m looking forward to seeing when the game is more complete.
