Winkeltje: The Little Shop

Winkeltje: The Little Shop

This is a great little shop management game!

I look forward to seeing how it develops over its time in Early Access.

Things done great:

  • The villager AI is spot on! I haven’t had anyone get stuck in my store. I also like how the expectations of the customers seems to align with the items your store offers over time. I was worried when I moved away from produce toward a tailor that customers would’t get the picture, but after a couple of days they stopped hounding me for apples!

This game is a gem, plain and simple. It’s made for a very narrow spectrum of gamers though, you’ll probably know if it’s for you by just looking at the screenshots and reading the description, but I encourage everyone who is even a little intrigued or who enjoys relaxing sandbox style games to give this game a shot. Everything you see and read about it is what you’ll get when you buy this game. Nothing more, nothing less. If you bought this game and don’t like it, it’s because you didn’t pay attention or had unfounded and unrealistic expectations.

The Birth:

Every day while sipping his favourite Earl Grey tea, Master Lee reflects on his inability to find a true Business Hero to succeed him. The wealthiest entrepreneur alive knows only too well the cost of making a wrong choice. Refusing defeat, Master Lee decided to create the ultimate tool to reach every corner of the world. A Business Simulation challenge based on his very first business. And so, Business Heroes: Food Truck Simulation was born.

  • Offer burgers and drinks at prices customers can’t resist

  • Invest in equipment and upgrades to serve customers better

  • Snatch customers from the competition with timely marketing

  • Keep your employees smiling with bonuses and training that improves their skills

  • Respond quickly to weather changes and unexpected events

In this business simulation, you take all the business decisions at night and watch the result of your choices unfold during the day.

Full Disclosure- I got my key at no cost, from the developer, to playtest the game, from Alpha 4 on.

This in no way affects my review of the game. If it sucked, I would be brutally honest about it. I call then like I see them.

Okay, that said, up there ^^^…

I don’t really tend to enjoy manangement sim games, I usually find them too simple, shallow, or just plain uninteresting.

This game is different. It may be because I have been inside, watching it evolve (and will continue to do so through Early Access, and beyond…), but this game has depth. The subject matter, a paper print newspaper from the 1980’s- (when I was a teen and young adult) is very relatable for me. The game is still in development, but it already very rich with details that hold your interest, tension that makes you hustle and make snap decisions, humor that pops up and relieves some of the tension, in a very silly way, and more challenge than I expected. I like challenge.

Its very early and developed by one person with a budget smaller then my allowance during all 4 years of high school combined. That probably isn’t true though.

Anyway, this game is a gem, and will be a gem in the future.

Yes, turn your music off asap or adjust using your systems audio mixer, that is a bit of feedback that can be acted on.

At the core this game is charming, you have a deadline you need to meet, an owner that can get angry with you, but also praise you. I imagine it is as similar to managing a news paper in the late 90’s was, and a news website today is. This is after all a simulation.

Planet Colonization

This is a tough one to rate. I thought I was buying a builder. Instead it is a unique take on Real Time Strategy in which prices from the independent market are the key drivers in determining how you build a functioning economy to support the war machine to take down your rivals.

The approach is creative and unique. You have to focus on staying profitable. Whatever resources you need you can buy in the market. However, to buy in the market you need positive cash flow or sufficient assets to access credit. You’ll bankrupt yourself quickly if you ignore the price signals from the market to focus on building the production chains you need.

I really like this game and I had it on my wish-list for a while coming up to the release date.

When I first started playing it really felt like a community driven game which is really nice to see, like what I mean by this is it’s not hard to get in direct contact with the developer to talk about the game and that’s pretty damn cool.

From being in the Discord server, the community along with the developer are both really friendly. Johannes (Developer) Is a really friendly and co-operative person and can take feedback really well and is on top of any bugs/issues very fast. His response time is a lot better than 90% of developers I’ve contacted and when I had an issue it was fixed within an hour. So that’s already a plus for me, even if I didn’t enjoy the game.

If you are reading this in six to twelve months time, this should be an instant buy if you play tycoon games. This is a fun and highly enjoyable tycoon game that I have had a fair bit of enjoyment out of. If you are reading this in October of 2021, my advice would be to wait six to twelve months. The base of this game is fantastic, it is a bit lacking in content though, and can become quite repetitive due to the lack of content (especially in the choice of festival sites), as well as a couple of bugs which do make gameplay harder to enjoy. This is quite typical for an early access game, of course, but it does need to be mentioned. However, unlike some other early access games, the developer is super on top of things and does a great job at communicating with the audience, so I have no doubt that there will be in the very near future new content to keep it fresh and challenging, as well as constant bug fixes. Overall, this should either be a get this game, or will end up being a get this game.

Bought this game as soon as it became available, love my tycoon games, first thought they was some irritating bugs, but the developer has already fixed them very quickly so looking good, i think this game has a lot of potential and will get a fair bit of play out of it. still a few bugs but nothing that wont be sorted. i will amend my review once i get a few hours in. but looking good!

Update. played another couple hours, enjoying this very much, the developer has already updated 4 times already, in just a few days. and its made a big difference, think i will get plenty of playtime out of this game. recommended, Around 15 hours in now really getting into this, money is very tight so unless you do a lot of grinding you will need to take loans out to survive, ive not done that but im just now starting to build the funds up while adding to my centre, Im finding the classes i put on are good earners like aerobics and yoga classes, also the event rooms can bring £750 - plus for a event. This is a good game and hopefully with some added features/bug fixes will be top notch. The only thing i dont like is tracking the drug dealer down when he is on the premises but otherwise a very good game. regards.

If you like management type games, you will enjoy this, at least for a little while. Lot’s of the content has been in development for quite some time. The developer is making periodic updates so that’s refreshing to see.

Several in game issues lower the enjoyment:

#1) there seems to be some major performance issues when things get busy. I’ve noticed it seems to hinge around the “events” i.e. class room or event room. When the event ends, performance returns to normal. The suggestion to turn off lighting and such is just silly… this isn’t that complex of a game to merit the lag on a system. I’ve noticed customers will group up at front door although they are supposed to be attending a class. You still get paid but maybe this is part of the issue. - FIXED in the Jul'21 update

We Are Open

We Are Open

The game concept is interesting but

  1. it’s a little too messy with multiple people with the shopping lists around all at once, gets a little overwhelming tbh

  2. those people move around a lot so even after you get the item, they have moved to the other floor and you have to go find them again lol, a little annoying ngl

  3. the AI obviously knows where all the stuff are so it’s like impossible to try and compete with it at all really

  4. each item for each person can only be fulfilled once by you or the bot so it’s kinda frustrating that you scramble to find the item only to return and see that the bot had already gave it to the person lol
