3dSen PC

3dSen PC

3DSen is one of the greatest emulators I have ever used. Keep in mind that this emulator does not come with roms, you will need to provide those yourself. This emulator works great I haven’t encountered any graphical glitches or slow down. The 3D looks really good too. It really looks and feels 3D, and it only uses the rom of the game your playing. There are a least 70 games that support 3D, just link a rom to the correct profile and you’re ready to go. The 2D mode works well too. If a game doesn’t have 3D support yet you can load the game in 2D mode. 2D mode allows you to play the game in it’s original 2D pixels. I tried games that don’t support 3D and they work great. They run at full speed and graphics look great. I even tried mods like SMB Peach Edition. I recommend running these in 2D mode so it doesn’t cause issues with the SMB 3D profile. I haven’t tested SMB mods with the 3d profile. In the end I can’t recommend this emulator enough.

For someone who grew up with NES and games like Zelda, Mario, Mega Man and Faxanadu and who still plays those classics occasionally, this little piece of emulator software seemed very intriquing from the day I heard about, which was way before the launch day. I participated to beta testing, so my time with it is much more than that almost 8 hours that Steam shows. I have to mention that I’m also a big fan of stereoscopic gaming and Nvidia’s 3D Vision, so when I got 3DSen to work in stereoscopic 3d it was like a dream come true: Finally I got to play those childhood classics the way I play games these days!

Dungeon Cleaning Express

Dungeon Cleaning Express

Dungeon Cleaning Express is a 2D action platformer in which you play as a professional dungeon cleaner which uses bombs and dynamite to destroy monsters and other hostile creatures in dungeons and cellars - not that easy but almost always effective and generally lots of fun for a pro! The story is rather simple, like in any action game or movie (because let’s be honest - who needs a complicated and entangled story when you have more than enough action?) and it goes like this: you accept a contract from a new owner of an old mansion to clean the underground beneath the building. Previous owner, quite an eccentric fellow, conducted under his house some really weird experiments and some other things of which we rather wouldn’t talk to children… Hmmm… He had a hobby… and now someone has to clean it up… and it looks like it is your job now… So how do You like it? Are you ready for a new adventure?

Mage Drops

Mage Drops

A lovely game by a lovely studio. It perfectly squares itself between the relaxation one might find in a title like Mario Golf (with its golf meets magical world premise) and the challenging, precision platforming of titles like Super Meat Boy and Celeste. Really looking forward to the full version!

I got this game to try it out after hearing about it from a stream that I often watch. I can say that this game is really really fun, I love all the mechanics of the game and how you can control the golf ball that has been produced by the wizard and manipulate the environment around you. The game is really well done overall and the platforming aspect of the game is challenging for anyone who loves platforming, however I want to put some of my own feedback down below.

  • So, this is my first bit of feedback because I think it may be potentially important to the growth of the game, when I started the game on controller I ran into a bit of a graphical glitch. I am a controller player, so I am pleased that the game does fully support controller, but the new game option completely covered any of the other options that I was able to choose from. This could be due to me having OBS open at the time since I was getting ready to stream this game at the time, but I do think it is something worth looking into. I currently have not seen the issue since, so I don’t know if this was caused by OBS.

Good potential. While now you can only play the prologue, the mechanics are simple to grasp, and I feel like there’s good potential in this indie game for speedrunning. Will watch closely!

This game is really cool! Simple and easy to understand, you can just jump into it without any fuss. The animation is delightful and utterly spooky at times. A sweet story of love and rescue is punctuated by perfectly matching music and it appears that more content is on the way in the future. I played it a couple of times and would eagerly revisit for new content.

Big Fish

Big Fish

Lucky me has the dubious honour of writing the first review for Big Fish.

Big Fish is an early access 2D top down retro pixel brawler/maze negotiation game. In terms of gameplay it’s a ripoff of the first chapter of Spore/the Sparkle series, as you control a top down fish thing and swim around and collect upgrades that give you different enhancements. Following on from the Spore ripoff, in later stages of the game you jump out onto land, but instead of a 3D brawler you get (sigh), a 2D retro pixel platformer stage.
